Endowed Funds
Endowments are permanent funds that provide support for academic pursuits and programs at the University of Mount Union. Private gifts to the University create these endowments. Donors determine the purpose for which endowment income may be spent. Some common purposes include scholarships and awards; chairs, professorships, and other faculty and staff positions; support for an academic program of the University, department, building, or area; academic research; and the purchase of journals, books, art, technology, or equipment
Since the institution’s inception in 1846, thousands of donors have contributed to endowment funds established for hundreds of purposes at Mount Union. Generous support for higher education, coupled with conservative and effective investment strategies, has resulted in an endowment currently valued at $145 million (as of June 30, 2020).

KRAMERS MAKE A LASTING IMPACT

When Professor Emeritus of Psychology Dr. Steve and Kathy Kramer first arrived at Mount Union in 1974, they anticipated staying for a few short years. Little did they know that 46 years later, they still would be living in their first and only house in Alliance, having developed a deep and meaningful connection to the campus community they now call “home.” This summer, after careful planning and consideration, the Kramers decided to solidify Mount Union as their forever home by reserving niches in the new columbarium within Victoria’s Garden and established an endowed scholarship opportunity for current and future Raiders.
Perhaps most well-known by students and alumni alike for the Wilderness and Social Responsibility trips, Steve created these two experiences 44 and 30 respective years ago.
The Kramers are also grateful for a supportive community where they could raise their children.
Committed to the University’s top priority of addressing affordability, the Kramers established the Steve and Kathy Kramer Endowed Scholarship this year. “We’ve always believed in the impact of philanthropy and feel we should support causes that we believe in.”
The Steve and Kathy Kramer endowed scholarship will provide support for junior and senior students who demonstrate active service in the community and a commitment to positively impacting the protection of our environment. Because of the Kramer’s dedication to providing exceptional experiences and opportunities at Mount Union, Purple Raiders will continue to be positively impacted for many years to come.
