THE ERNST FAMILY
When University of Findlay alumnus and men’s head basketball coach Charlie Ernst ’92 M’06 and Belinda (Roberts ‘02) Ernst, a physician assistant (PA) with Blanchard Valley Medical Associates (BVMA) and the medical coordinator for Mission Possible, first met, it was in Morey Hall on the UF campus. Charlie was working in financial aid, and Belinda was looking to become a student in the Physician Assistant Program. “She came in for a loan and left with an offer for lunch,” quipped Charlie, whose offer to show Belinda around the University and community turned into her joining him as both an Oiler and a life partner. What blossomed for them since has become not just one family of their own, but many families that offer mutual support and guidance in an effort to better the world for everyone.
To say the Ernsts’ lives are colossally busy is surely accurate; to suggest that the many “families” they have built over the years are important to their development and growth as well-rounded human beings, however, is a considerable understatement. Of course, there is the family under their roof in Findlay that includes 17-year old daughter Allison; 15-year old son Sam; their son Roger, eight, whom they adopted from Burundi, a third world country in Africa; and their family dog, Spencer. Yet, it is their additional families – their career family; their church family; and their family at UF, the one they say gave them both “the opportunity to have incredible lives and make the lives of others better through what we’ve chosen to do as careers,” according to Belinda – that has caused their hearts to open exponentially.
As a student at UF, when Belinda got to the part of the PA program where what is known as clinical rotations came around, she was the first UF student invited to Blanchard Valley Medical Associates to complete them. Since the program was only a few years old, doctors weren’t yet familiar with the type of PA students UF was producing, a notion that has since changed with its growth and the success of its students. Dr. Rick Watson, however, took a chance on Belinda, and it has turned into a productive and fruitful working relationship. As a result of her dedication to the work, and of the kinship between Dr. Watson and her, Belinda was hired on after graduation from UF, and the two continue to make a great team working side-by-side still today. “Navigating our way through the pandemic has made all of us even closer. Between working with Dr. Watson in pulmonology and Dr. [Michael] Cairns,
whom I’ve worked with in dermatology for about seven years now, and the other people that make up the practice, you could call it a family for sure,” she added.
Charlie has been cultivating a relationship with his UF family for more than 30 years, playing basketball for the Oilers from 1988-1992, spending time as a student campus tour guide, and working in admissions and financial aid before ultimately realizing his true passion for coaching. He counts his vast experience at UF as a boon to both his life and his ability to know the University and educate others about the many benefits of becoming an Oiler. He makes it a regular practice to meet new people at UF and to further the notion of “one big Oiler family,” finding that the more people he knows, the more he knows about the University, and the better he can do his job and mentor his
players. “As a coach, stressing family is something that helps to build your team,” he said. “That’s why you come to a place like UF – to find an extended academic family. In fact, I hope every student graduates from here feeling that they’ve found that.”
The Ernsts’ greatest accomplishment, they say, is their own family, and the three children who are a part of it. In 2019, it was put upon their hearts to adopt a child from Africa, a notion that was helped along by their involvement with their church community and Mission Possible, a non-profit organization headquartered in Findlay that focuses on Christian leadership development through education in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Adding Roger, who spoke no English when they brought him home, was a challenge, yet one that they learned a great deal from in the way of communication
and how to love. “Actions are much more impactful than words,” explained Belinda. “So, while there was a major language barrier at the beginning, we learned that the way we model our behavior is every bit as important as what we say.”
“While we are very busy, multitasking and juggling schedules – and this definitely applies to all of our children – I think we’re modeling sacrifice, time management, and work ethic. We’re teaching far more by example than anything that comes out of our mouths,” Charlie added.
It’s abundantly clear that the Ernsts are one another’s biggest supporters, and that each family they are a part of is infinitely better because of their positions within them. They learn from each other, and because of that,
their perspectives on what it means to be successful as a human being is developed using skills borrowed and adapted from one another. “She does an unbelievable job of helping our own family function, and she has a special way about her that makes people feel comfortable,” Charlie said. “I can certainly keep wins and losses in perspective better when considering the nature of her job and working with people who are very sick and, in some cases, dying.”
“And he has a huge heart,” Belinda added. “His job is coaching, but he kind of ministers to the boys, too, like their father away from home. Through him, they learn what it takes to be a committed, loyal, hardworking man.”
Patience, understanding, empathy, and dedication to learning about the lives of the people they affect, young and otherwise, is what Charlie and Belinda Ernst are known for within all of their
extended families. Their philosophy is simple: help others. Charlie put it best when he said that UF gave them both the chance to have incredible lives and to make others’ lives better. “We’re pretty happy,” he said. “I don’t really have to tell you what I think about UF; how long I’ve been here speaks to that. If we continue to be healthy and well-grounded, we’ll always be blessed beyond measure right where we are, but be in a position to help people everywhere.”

Access Athletics JOSHUA VERHOFF
By Josh Eilola
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” That question is usually difficult for kids and teenagers to answer, but it was not for University of Findlay junior Joshua Verhoff. Verhoff knew he wanted to go into healthcare, in part, because of his specific pediatric healthcare needs. “I'm a rare [example], because nobody really knows what they want to do,” he said. “But since sixth grade, I’ve really wanted to help kids with diabetes, like myself.” It was during that time that Verhoff was diagnosed with type one diabetes and his whole world flipped upside down. He couldn’t eat like the other kids, but he was able to adapt to the new lifestyle pretty quickly. Counting carbs and constantly monitoring his insulin levels became part of his daily life. This setback wasn’t going to stop him from achieving what he wanted to accomplish, however; in fact, during his senior track season, he broke the state record in the 200-meter dash.
Because he knew what he wanted to study, Verhoff was on the lookout for a university that would allow him to pursue his passion for both track and nursing. When he made his visit to UF to meet with the Nursing Program and the track coaching staff, he was sure it was where he wanted to be. “UF gave me the opportunity to compete at a high level and still allowed me to do my program,” he said. He runs the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash as an Oiler athlete, while also excelling in his nursing classes as a student, yet, according to Verhoff, most of his life has been a balancing act, so the adjustment to college life, as a student-athlete, comes naturally to him. During the last indoor track season, his natural ability was on display as he qualified for indoor track nationals in the 200-meter dash.
Finding a way to pursue one’s passions isn’t an easy task, but with hard work, determination, and a solid support system, one can accomplish their goals. Joshua Verhoff is immediate proof of that as an Oiler student-athlete, and he plans to take it even further. His goal after graduating with his degree in nursing, he said, is to become a nurse practitioner and specialize in endocrinology, the branch of physiology and medicine concerned with endocrine glands and hormones.
It’s clear that what Verhoff wants to be now and “when he grows up” is someone who makes a big difference in others’ lives through understanding and knowledge. It’s a finish line he’s sure to cross successfully, and Oilers everywhere are just as certain to be cheering him on.
Around Campus
FULL STEAM AHEAD
The Joseph and Judith Conda STEAM Education Center at University of Findlay’s Mazza Museum was officially opened on September 10 after breaking ground roughly a year and a half earlier. The addition promises to be a dynamic, student-centered partnership where UF students in the sciences, education, art, and more can come together with the college students of tomorrow in a creative and exciting hub for all things Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics/Medicine.
TAKE A LOAD OFF
The completion of a second hammock park, outside of Deming Hall, created yet another relaxation station for students to chill, study, eat, sleep, converse, or all of the above!
RECYCLING RAMP UP
In order to both make the recycling process more efficient and convenient as well as encourage the campus community to change their behavior toward waste reduction efforts, major improvements are being made to UF’s recycling program with the help of an Ohio EPA Grant.
SAFETY FIRST
Campus police were recognized by the Lexipol Connect program, the nation’s leading content, policy and training platform for public safety agencies, for achieving the Gold level of policy implementation and review for consistently and effectively disseminating policies to officers, issuing timely policy updates as laws change, and ensuring officers are trained on policies.
SERVICE WITH A SMILE
For the 19th consecutive year, new freshmen helped people and non-profit organizations in the Findlay community as part of the annual tradition of Student Orientation Service Projects. Students landscaped, painted, and cleaned at schools, churches, and other organizations in the area.
WELL DONE
Fifty high school students attended UF’s week-long summer theology camp, The Well, where they spent the week participating in daily worship, biblical study, breakout sessions, and local service opportunities. It was the second time The Well has been at its maximum capacity of participants since the camp began six years ago.
THE FUTURE’S SO BRITE
The College of Business is offering assistance to entrepreneurs through a new multi-faceted program, the Business Resource for Innovation, Teamwork, and Entrepreneurship (BRITE) Center, which will offer guidance in starting a new business or exploring a new profession and pair people with mentors to get realworld advice.
GOVERNING IMPROVEMENTS
From new campus signage to help visitors find their way, to updating student recreation areas like the sand volleyball pits and the basketball courts, UF’s Student Government Association (SGA) and its Campus Improvement Committee has been hard at work bringing projects across campus to life.
PHARM CAMP LIFE
The College of Pharmacy hosted two pharmacy summer camps where students got the chance to learn more about medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, hospital pharmacy, compounding, and more, so that they might leave camp with a better understanding of the pharmacy profession and the program.
A GIFT FOR MUSIC
A scholarship was created from a significant legacy gift made through the generosity of the late Rebecca Sue “Becky” Craig of Kenton, Ohio, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 83. Though not a UF graduate, Craig was a frequent attendee and enthusiastic supporter of UF’s Civic Band concerts where her brother once played the oboe.
Global Impact
by Andrea Blankemeyer M'20
Dallas Smith, Pharm.D. ’17, has made quite the impact on the world since graduating from the University of Findlay.
Smith grew up in rural Ayersville, Ohio, on a small family farm, and during his senior year of high school, as he sifted through ideas of what to study in college, he came across the field of pharmacy. “I discovered that pharmacy was a really fascinating profession that could allow me to focus on disease prevention. It immediately sparked my interest,” said Smith. UF was relatively close to his hometown, something that was important to Smith in choosing a college, and, along with being impressed with Findlay’s Pharmacy Program, he had an interest in Oiler basketball, a sport he played and loved in high school. Being offered the opportunity to play for UF was the icing on the black and orange cake for Smith, and he chose the University to further his athletics and education.
University of Findlay
Smith said that, during the six years he spent as a UF student-athlete, his Findlay experience was nothing short of spectacular, particularly because of the many opportunities for involvement he found. He served as a resident assistant for a year, then as a resident director for two years, and won both the Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy and Walmart and Pharmacy Times RESPy (Respect, Excellence, and Service in Pharmacy) Awards. Perhaps most notably, Smith participated in international study abroad trips and the cultural immersion that went along with it. In fact, Smith was one of the founders of the Oilers Studying Abroad Program (OSAP). As a student, he also served in clinics abroad in Mexico and Haiti. “I really enjoy learning about different cultures and the history behind those cultures,” Smith mentioned, “as well as just learning more about the world in general and why it is the way it is today.” He believes that his passion for cultural immersion has significantly influenced his career path.
Peace Corps
Cambodia
In May of 2017, Smith graduated from the University of Findlay and, a month later, joined the Peace Corps, where his first stretch landed him in Cambodia from that summer to the summer of 2019. While there, he served as a Community Health Educator, where his main role was to work with the health center’s staff to improve different health outcomes in the community and to work with community members, empowering them to improve their own health. Smith spent a lot of time trying to figure out how the particular
Cambodian community in which he found himself could improve their nutrition intake. Additionally, he taught English at a secondary school in the community, for which one of the projects he led was converting an open space in the courtyard of the school into a garden. Smith incorporated gardening techniques and organic farming methods into a class’s curriculum and worked to partner the school’s new garden with the health center, which gave him the ability to provide fresh produce to patients.
An additional large project Smith had a hand in was renovating the delivery room at the health center with a Peace Corps funded grant. With the goal of providing expectant mothers with a better atmosphere for delivery, he partnered with community outreach in the villages that the health center served, educating soon-to-be mothers, spreading awareness of vaccinations, what to expect of the birthing process,
what to do after the birth of the child, and so forth. “It was a really cool experience working collaboratively and empowering the other midwives and nurses who work at the health center, along with providing them with the right supplies needed to do really great work,” said Smith. After the renovations and improvements were made, according to Smith, the health center saw a big increase in mothers coming to the health center for labor and delivery needs and knowledge. “I learned so many lessons in Cambodia, but two of the main things were how important health system strengthening and collaborating is and secondly, [how beneficial it is to have] the ability to provide care for the citizens of Cambodia at an equal level,” mentioned Smith.
Peace Corps Malawi
After Smith’s positive and life changing experience in Cambodia, he continued with the Peace Corps, traveling to Malawi in southeastern Africa. It turned out to be a much different, yet similarly rewarding experience. While there, Smith entered into a shortened, more specific, Peace Corps role within the Peace Corps response program. In it, he was a clinical pharmacy and pharma cognancy lecturer at the only medical university in Malawi. “I was able to train some of the brightest, most amazing students, and shape the field of pharmacy because it’s an emerging profession in Malawi,” he said. “It was an incredible experience.” In March 2020, however, Smith’s time in Malawi was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic when the Peace Corps decided to do a global evacuation of all
volunteers. “I think approximately 8,000 Peace Corps volunteers were evacuated and brought back to the United States within 48 hours, all across the world,” he said. “There were a lot of emotions during that time, but I would say the biggest one was I felt like I was abandoning my colleagues, students, and friends. Ultimately, Peace Corps made the right decision, but just the concept of it was very strange.”
Medical Reserve Corps Arlington, VA
After the required quarantine, Smith and his fiancé, a Peace Corps volunteer he met in Cambodia, moved to Arlington, VA. Shortly after, Smith said he was very lucky to be hired temporarily by the Medical Reserve Corps and worked in a unit administering COVID-19 tests.
Toward the end of December 2020, the Medical Reserve Corps transitioned him to help manage a COVID-19 vaccination program in Arlington, Virginia. “I started looking for another job because I knew this wasn’t a permanent position,” said Smith. “I really loved what I did; being able to be part of such a mass mobilization of volunteers and people to vaccinate the public was an incredible experience, but it wasn’t what I wanted to do long term.”
Center for Disease Control and Prevention
Atlanta, GA
In July 2021, Smith started in a new position within the Epidemic Center for Intelligence with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC’s Epidemic Center for Intelligence is considered a premiere applied epidemiology program in the United States.
In his current position at the CDC, Smith investigates disease outbreaks, does surveillance on diseases, and works with a lot of different partners to stop diseases. “I’m currently working globally and domestically on outbreaks occurring, doing lots of different projects, and learning a lot by contributing from a pharmaceutical perspective and from a Peace Corps perspective,” added Smith.
more people will have the booster, and we can finally get a good handle on this pandemic and the variants that may arrive in the next couple of months,” he said. “It’s a very exciting time to be in public health,” said Smith. “The COVID-19 pandemic has really mobilized public health professionals in something that none of us have seen before.”
Moving Forward
Smith’s ultimate career goal is to encourage pharmacists to get much more involved in public health, and with the path that he is on, and the knowledge and abilities he is accruing along the way, he is well-equipped to be a voice for the industry.
While current data has revealed that more and more people are getting vaccinated - something that Smith describes as “really exciting”- the CDC’s recommendation of COVID-19 boosters are getting off the ground as well, and Smith is hoping that will give an extra push to get through the winter. “Hopefully, by the time next spring rolls around, more people will be vaccinated,
A Partnership for Student Education and Community Health
BY NATASHA LANCASTER ’18, M’19
By definition, collaboration is two or more people or groups working together to create or achieve the same result. University of Findlay and Blanchard Valley Health Systems (BVHS) are doing just that through a strategic partnership with the University’s health professions programs.
This strategic partnership will accomplish three primary goals: it will give UF students opportunities for hands-on clinical experience, it will recruit talented and well-trained healthcare workers for positions within BVHS, and it will ultimately provide excellent healthcare to the community.
Experiential Learning
Kelly Shroll M ’08, president of Blanchard Valley Medical Practices in Findlay, explained that “the partnership will heighten our commitment to providing excellent healthcare to our community. From a workforce standpoint, they are key to providing good patient care by providing welltrained caregivers.” In the healthcare setting, going to clinical sites and getting real-world experience is a requirement; but not all experiences are equally beneficial. “I think the size of Blanchard Valley is also important because it’s small enough for students to have one-on-one training and experiences. Students are able to get a wider variety of experiences at a hospital our size,” Shroll said. “As
a health sciences student, the most meaningful experience I had was at a hospital similar to BVHS. The size of the organization and the collaboration between the University and clinical sites on what the students need and giving them exposure to as many things as possible are so important.”
“Collaborating with Blanchard Valley Health System, as a local healthcare delivery system, has evolved from a more casual working relationship into a thought-out plan for student, and ultimately, patient, success,” said Richard Hopkins, department chair and program director of the University of Findlay Physician Assistant Program. “More students are being given the opportunity to complete clinical rotations within Blanchard Valley Health System more frequently which allows for increased familiarity with a single health system’s referral process, electronic medical records, and patient care resources which allows students to be hands-on at a faster pace.”
Melissa Sutton, chair of the University of Findlay Nursing Department,
said she is looking forward to future collaboration with BVHS for nursing students as well, as they’ll have the opportunity to participate in “enhanced simulation activities” through the BVHS Simulation and Innovation Center. “The simulation learning activities will assist our nursing students with their transition to practice as a student and also in the future as a new graduate nurse,” Sutton explained. “We are excited to move forward with the simulation collaborative and also explore other interprofessional education opportunities.”
Building for the Future
Along with more opportunities for experiential learning, the UF/BVHS collaboration has also led to a number of building modifications on UF’s campus to support the growing College of Health Professions. The building modifications will provide necessary space for students to learn and will allow for growth within the University’s various health professions programs.
Building modifications for this area are meant to mimic the healthcare setting with many current healthcare center and hospital practices and setups being incorporated. Barbara Pasztor, chief nursing officer of Blanchard Valley Medical Practices, explained that “the classroom spaces look very well thought out; there is so much room for simulation and hands-on experience, and a lot of great technology is going to be implemented.”
With 28 unique academic programs each having their own specific technology, equipment, and space requirements, these upgrades will allow current and future students to get the most out of their education. UF is also confident that with additional space and state-of-the-art equipment, more students and potential faculty members will be drawn to the University.
Once construction is completed, students will be able to enjoy more space with the expansion of an existing classroom and the addition of another class area. Additional areas being renovated will serve as preparatory
spaces and house equipment to support student labs and work areas such as the surgical suite and simulation rooms. To ensure students have the most amount of access to faculty, additional office spaces, meeting rooms, and study areas are also included in the new floor plan.
The ‘Why’
UF knows how important hands-on, experiential learning is for students and that it’s an integral part of the University’s mission to equip students for meaningful lives and productive careers. The strategic partnership and collaborative efforts between UF and BVHS will not only help students in the health professions programs be successful in their future endeavors, but will also expand access to the community for excellent healthcare.
“We went into this [partnership] with the aspirational goal of it being mutually beneficial for the University recruiting and training the best students and the hospital retaining the best healthcare workers for our community,” Pasztor added. “The majority of physician
assistants we have at BVHS came from University of Findlay and they are all very well prepared and have become excellent employees.” Shroll added, “A combination of the educational program and the hands-on clinical experience is the best you can offer students. This type of education is so important. Having a strong university like the University of Findlay is a great asset for our community.”
Current students are already feeling the positive effects of the partnership. “Throughout my time at BVHS as a UF student, I was given many opportunities to practice skills learned in classes, like starting IVs and placing Foley catheters,” said Cassie Miller, a current student in the Nursing Program. “My clinical instructor collaborated with staff to get my classmates and me the best experiences possible. By practicing these skills in clinical, I became more confident in myself in clinicals and in the classroom. I am grateful to have had such a wonderful learning experience through this partnership.”

While professions in the healthcare field have always been of utmost importance, it is difficult to think of another time in our lives when they have been more at the forefront of collective thought. Regardless of specific skill set, health care workers are vital for getting the nation and the world back to the overall health that we’ve often taken for granted.
This fall issue of FindlayMag puts some well-deserved emphasis on those students and alumni from University of Findlay who are working toward helping and healing through their work in and for the College of Health Professions and the College of Pharmacy.
The ongoing success that has enabled UF to provide the most up-to-date experiential education in many fields of healthcare is largely dependent on those with philanthropical hearts and minds. We are, once again, filled with the immense gratitude that is a direct result of the generosity of Oiler Nation. Your gifts allow students to pursue their educational dreams, and help to keep our programs strong and our campus beautiful.
I offer the most heartfelt appreciation to those everywhere who give support to UF, our College of Health Professions and College of Pharmacy, and our many other colleges, programs, and projects, with two simple words that mean everything.
Thank you.
The full Annual Report, which has the audited financial statements and recognizes and lists all of our generous donors for the year, will be available online beginning January 14 at findlay.edu/offices/advancement/annual-report Once again, much gratitude to one and all who gave to and supported our UF students over this past fiscal year with financial gifts.

The following funds became fully endowed during the 2020-21 fiscal year.
Angela S. Brown Campus Ministries Program Endowment Fund
Angela Brown established the Angela S. Brown Campus Ministries Program Endowment Fund at the University of Findlay in 2018. Ms. Brown’s passion for UF Campus Ministries compelled her to support the annual operations of our campus Christian leaders.
The Brungard Family Scholarship Endowment Fund
Thomas and Debra Brungard established the Brungard Family Scholarship Endowment Fund at the University of Findlay. The scholarship shall be awarded to a student who is a/n College of Education or Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability major. Dr. Steven D. Craig And Rebecca S. Craig Scholarship Endowment Fund
Rebecca S. Craig established the Dr. Steven D. Craig and Rebecca S. Craig Scholarship Endowment Fund at The University of Findlay. Ms. Craig established this fund in memory of her brother, Steven. Becky worked as the laboratory director at the Marysville Memorial Hospital for nearly 30 years where she is credited for making the laboratory one of the first small hospital labs to be accredited by the College of American Pathologists. Because of Becky’s life’s work in the healthcare field, her and her brother, Steven’s, love for music and her good fortune, it was Becky’s intent to establish this fund to assist students in completing their education. As a result, Becky Craig established the Dr. Steven D. Craig and Rebecca S. Craig Scholarship Endowment Fund at The University of Findlay in memory of her brother. Dr. Steven Craig taught musical arts at OSU and BGSU and played in The University of Findlay’s symphonic band.
Alexandria “Ali” Gokey Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund
The College of Science, western equestrian program, various donors, and parents Matt and Julie Gokey together established the Alexandria “Ali” Gokey Memorial Scholarship at the University of Findlay. This scholarship was established in memory of Ali, who graduated in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and with an associate degree in equestrian studies - western. She was also a member of the western equestrian team for four years.
The Schoenberger Scholarship Endowment Fund
Michael Schoenberger '83 established the Schoenberger Scholarship Endowment Fund at the University of Findlay to support students. Michael is a 1983 graduate of the Computer Science Program. He spent his career in industry filling various positions. He was a non-traditional student at UF, grateful for the opportunity to achieve his bachelor’s degree. It gives him great joy to know that his fund will forever help other students achieve their academic goals.
Katherine L. And Roy R. Schwinn Scholarship Endowment Fund
Through a bequest from her estate, Katherine L. Schwinn established the Katherine L. and Roy R. Schwinn Scholarship Endowment Fund at The University of Findlay. The scholarship shall be awarded to a student(s) who is/are a business major and a graduate of Findlay High School. Second preference shall be a graduate of any Hancock County high school. Katherine “Katy” was a non-degreed alumna and thought fondly of her time at the University of Findlay.
The Jeanne Tierney And David O'Brien Scholarship Endowment Fund
Jeanne Tierney and David O'Brien established the Jeanne Tierney and David O'Brien Scholarship Endowment Fund at the University of Findlay. Jeanne has over 25 years of proven success designing and integrating HR and organizational development programs that meet client and business needs. Her experience in human resources and organizational development spans across diverse industries including retail, healthcare, marketing and advertising, manufacturing and logistics. Their love of animals and helping others was the reason behind their interest in creating this scholarship.

Troy D. “T-Bone” Berry ’92 ’99, of Findlay, passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2021. Born on January 22, 1968 in Coshocton, Ohio to Richard "Dick" and Dixie (Slaughter) Berry, he met the love of his life, Dawn (Mellott), while attending The University of Findlay and playing baseball for the Oilers as a four-year letter winner. They married in 1994 and had two children, Nicholas Berry and Madison Berry. In 2017 the class of 1992, along with friends and family, established the Troy Berry '92 Athletic Scholarship Endowment Fund at The University of Findlay to honor the achievements of Oiler baseball and Coach Berry, who retired as head coach in 2013. During his tenure he finished as the all-time leader in wins with 211 and the Oilers set 12 team season records including wins (28) in 2008. He coached the Oilers to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament twice, reaching the finals in 2005 and again in 2008. He coached 41 All-GLIAC and six All-Region performers, including one NCAA All-American. In 2014 the GLIAC baseball coaches voted to create the "Troy Berry" award, presented annually to a baseball student-athlete who combines outstanding character and leadership on the field and in the classroom. Berry played many roles during his 26 years at The University of Findlay that included assistant sports information director, director of tickets and concessions, scheduler of athletic facilities and wellness instructor.
