very year, Student Development and Enrollment Services hosts UCF Family Weekend, and we are excited that you chose to spend this weekend with our university family of students, staff and faculty members. We hope you will enjoy the beauty of our campus and the hospitality of Orlando.

UCF is the nation’s second-largest university. This weekend, you join the families of many of UCF’s 59,300 students as honored guests. We invite you and your family to become better acquainted with UCF by attending the various events and activities that our students and staff have planned, which will give insight into UCF’s campus life.

First Year Experience

T

he Office of First Year Experience assists freshman and transfer students by providing information about student services, campus life, academic support, academic advising and registration. A variety of programs are offered, including new student orientation, Pegasus Palooza Welcome Week, Family Weekend, Learning and Interacting with New Knights (LINK), the Ultimate Knight and the Strategies for Success course.

A combined effort by our LINK and Ultimate Knight programs assists freshman by coordinating campuswide activities. Each year, a group of specially trained student leaders serve on the orientation team. Students are chosen to serve based on academic standing, outstanding leadership, communication and teamwork skills.

Students may also elect to participate in a First Year Experience course Student Life Skills (SLS 1501) that deals with issues such as study skills, time management, campus involvement, career planning, diversity and numerous other topics.

UCF ATHLETICS

UCF

Athletics is a major source of pride for our 59,000-plus students, hundreds of thousands of alumni, faculty and staff members, parents and the local community. The Knights are an integral part of the university and our student-athletes represent UCF well in competition, in the classroom and in the community.

Ten of UCF’s 16 Division I teams participated in postseason play in 2011-12. Knight student-athletes have earned a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher for three consecutive years. UCF student-athletes participated in more than 70 community service projects and reached more than 8,000 children in Central Florida during the 2011-12 school year.

Family Weekend is highlighted by UCF’s home opening football game vs. Florida International at 4 p.m. on September 15. Two other Knight squads will be in action on Family Weekend as well. The women’s soccer team, who advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight last season, hosts North Florida at 5 p.m. on September 14.

The men’s soccer team, who were also in the NCAA Tournament, hosts Jacksonville at 7:30 p.m. on September 14.

Guided Tour of the Health Center Health Center, Building 127 12:00–12:45 p.m.

Did you know that there is no charge for students’ doctor visits at the Health Center? We offer so much more than just primary care. Join us on this guided tour of the Health Center and learn about all the health resources and discounts available to students.

Name that Violation—Getting to Know the UCF Creed and the ucf Rules of Conduct Student Union, Room 223 12:00–1:00 p.m.

Do you think you know the UCF Rules of Conduct? They can be tricky, but this program will make you an expert. The Office of Student Conduct will facilitate a game show-style competition open to all students and their families. “Name That Violation” will provide participants with a variety of conduct-related situations.

Students and families will work together to guess the violation and decide the outcome. Participants will learn about the UCF Rules of Conduct in an interactive way, have the opportunity to ask questions of Student Conduct coordinators and spin the prize wheel for some great giveaways.

Women’s Soccer vs. North Florida Track and Soccer Stadium 5:00 p.m.

Join the women’s soccer team as they take on instate rival North Florida.

4EVER KNIGHTS VIP Reception* Fairwinds Alumni Center 4:00–6:00 p.m.

Fun, games and great food are on the menu for our VIPs (Very Important Parents). Come hang out with the 4EVER KNIGHTS and learn about exciting new benefits and events. This event is open to 4EK members and their families only.

Join the UCF Student Government Association and UCF Athletics for the annual football season kickoff party and the largest pep rally of the year.

This event is open to all UCF students, alumni and fans.

Career Services Open House Career Services and Experiential Learning 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.

It’s never too early to start planning for your career. Come to Career Services for a tour and learn about the free services available to students—major and career exploration, obtaining relevant work experience and gaining employability skills.

Parents and students can unwind with a night of laughs and entertainment. Enjoy improv comedy entertainment from SAK Comedy Lounge of downtown Orlando and a chance to mingle with UCF faculty and staff.

Stop by for food, games, giveaways and fun. This year’s activities include student organizations, senior design projects, trivia, tailgate games, and more.

Spend a day on the water learning the new sport of Stand-Up Paddle Boarding (SUPing). No previous experience needed.

Registration includes transportation, equipment and instruction.

Rosen College Brunch Rosen College of Hospitality Management 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.

Rosen College students and their families are invited to enjoy a day of food, fun and campus life at the annual Family Weekend Brunch. The event will feature industry guest speakers, faculty presentations, campus tours, buffet-style brunch and more.

Welcome to College Open House You’re invited to come early to the UCF vs. FIU game and attend the college open houses at UCF on Saturday, September 15.

Students can participate in race-style activities at several colleges and be entered into a drawing for the following prizes: four tickets to the UCF vs. Missouri home game on Saturday, September 29, a membership to 4EVER KNIGHTS, or one of two $50 textbook scholarships.
