LIGHTING THE WAY The Florida Consortium of Metropolitan Research Universities will drive economic development by creating synergies and efficiencies among the state’s three largest metropolitan public research universities — Florida International University, University of Central Florida, and University of South Florida. These institutions are located in three of the state’s largest metropolitan areas, collectively serving nearly half of the students enrolled in the State University System (SUS).

Use data to find the students who may be at risk of not completing their degrees and intervene early and individually to immediately impact their success.

Monitor students’ progression to degree completion using the most up-to-date tracking technology so that no students fall through the cracks, and connection to needed support is automatic.

Offer personalized academic success coaching, mentoring and enhanced advising for students needing help to succeed.

Increase internship and practicum experiences for students in our three metropolitan areas of Miami, Orlando and Tampa Bay while ensuring that our students graduate not only with strong academic training but with the skills and experience that employers need and demand.

EARLY SUCCESSES FUNDING TO DATE Helios Education Foundation provided $25,000 to sponsor consortium professional development activities and has committed $500,000 for five years to support the consortium programs and infrastructure.

FIU, UCF and USF have each committed $75,000 annually for five years for a total of $1,125,000.

State Targeted Educational Attainment (TEAm) grants: • $4.9 million for An Urban Coalition Response to Florida Computer Information Technology Workforce Needs • $3.6 million for An Innovative and Collaborative Approach to Increasing the Supply for Quality Accounting Graduates in Florida
