Sustainable Study Guide

Sustainability in education

Societal issues, such as sustainable development and its related themes, are – to a greater or lesser extent covered at all faculties by education and research. By teaching the students knowledge and skills that are important for solving complex sustainability issues, the university enables them to be involved in the sustainability challenges of the coming decades.

Leiden University offers various programmes that focus on ‘sustainability’, as defined in the sustainable Development Goals’ framework. Examples include the MSc Governance of Sustainability and the MSc Inustrial Ecology (in collaboration with TU Delft). In addition, sustainable themes are increasingly integrated within existing courses and students choose this topic for their assignments, research, or thesis.

Minor programs o Leiden University and those taught as part of the LDE-alliance, can be found in the prospectus and eduXchange.nl

Courses have been carefully checked to determine whether they contain enough sustainability related content. The circles represent the courses that focus on four or more SDGs. More information on the SDGs can be found here
