July 2023

Dear friend, As you blow out your birthday candles and celebrate another year ahead, what do you wish for? When you were a child, you might remember celebrating with a fun-themed birthday party, your family and friends gathering around you with birthday cake and presents. But what if you had to spend your special day in the hospital? At Blank Children’s Hospital, celebrating birthdays means so much more and you can help. You can bring more celebrations to kids down every hall. And as a bonus, if you make a donation before July 20, your $1 becomes $2. Your gift today provides instant relief and delivers fun to patients. Your support will be put right to work by the Child Life team, bringing smiles, laughter, distraction and explanations to kids undergoing treatment. Kids like Ethan. Ethan was scheduled to start his last round of chemotherapy on his birthday. Although he was disappointed he wouldn’t be able to have a birthday party with his friends, the team at Blank Children’s planned a birthday celebration just for him. The day Ethan was admitted, Child Life and his team of nurses welcomed him with a birthday door sign, presents, confetti, noisemakers, a birthday hat and even asked, Ainsley, a friend and cancer patient, to sing happy birthday to him. “We were so relieved to see Ethan having so much fun during his birthday celebration,” says Amber, Ethan’s mom. “It was so great for him to have something normal in a time when he was in the thick of chemo treatments.”
