Professional recognition NESA, QCT in accordance with the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL). ACECQA (Early Childhood specialisation).

The Bachelor of Education is a gateway degree to work as a registered teacher in Australia. It also qualifies graduates to work in many countries overseas.

This cutting-edge, evidence-based course draws on the University’s leadership and research in teacher education. A distinctive suite of first year units provides excellent grounding in literacy, numeracy, science, and core subject content. All students undertake studies in Indigenous education, sustainability, inclusive education, and other significant areas.

Specialisations

All students choose a single or combined specialisation from the following: Early Childhood/Primary

For teaching in both early childhood settings and primary schools.

Primary

For teaching in primary schools from kindergarten/prep to Year 6. Includes an approved compulsory English Primary Specialisation with opportunities for an approved NESA Specialisation in Mathematics or Science.

Primary/Secondary

For teaching in both primary schools and in one subject in secondary schools. This course includes an AITSL English Primary Specialisation and an optional specialisation in Mathematics, Geography or Modern History.

Secondary

For teaching in secondary schools. Two teaching subjects are chosen from a range of secondary subjects: English, Mathematics, Geography, Modern History, Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE), Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Investigating Science, Business Studies, Legal Studies, Society and Culture, Aboriginal Studies, Human Society in the Environment (HSIE).

Technology Secondary

In this specialisation you complete Design and Technology core subjects and combine these with either Industrial Technology or Food and Fibre plus a second teaching area from a range of subjects.

Career opportunities

Depending on the specialisation chosen, graduates may work in early childhood settings, primary or secondary schools, developing as leaders and/or specialists within educational settings. Combined specialisations in early childhood/primary and primary/secondary allow for teaching across a wide range of age groups.
