Tasman Coastal

The moderate maritime climate of this sub-region combines harmoniously with the Moutere clay of Tasman, through to the limestone of Riwaka in the North West. A must-visit for lovers of fine wines of complexity and elegance.

RIWAKA RIVER ESTATE

Waimea Plains

Waimea means ‘river gardens’ in Māori - with stony soils of alluvial origin, the climatically diverse Waimea Plains provide great terroir. With aromatic whites with a flinty backbone, richly expressive Chardonnay with fine acid structure, and Pinot Noir perfumed with plum and cherry characters, Waimea Plains deserves to be part of your visit to the region.

SEIFRIED ESTATE

Inspired and innovative wines from the South Island’s oldest family winery. Harvested from Estate grown, ‘Sustainably Accredited’ vineyards throughout the Nelson region, with a focus and passion for beautifully crafted wines. Enjoy a hosted tasting, and stay for lunch in the sunny garden at Harvest Kitchen.

RICHMOND PLAINS & TE MANIA

Producers of New Zealand’s first organic Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. We work with nature to craft delicious wine that also cares for the planet. Try both Te Mania and Richmond Plains wines at the same cellar door and admire the world’s biggest grapevine rugby ball.

Open: Mid October to Mid April: 7 Days 10:30am to 4:30pm.

GREENHOUGH VINEYARD

Winemakers in Hope for over 30 years. Welcome to our cellar door just five minutes from Richmond. Certified organic wines expressing the personality of variety, vineyard and vintage.

Open: Weekends in January 1.30-4.30 pm, or by appointment.

WAIMEA ESTATE

Nestled in Nelson’s sheltered Waimea Plains, Waimea makes a range of vibrant wines inspired by the abundance of flavours from the region. Our award-winning wines have a distinctive alluvial qualityperfect for pairing with fresh local produce.

Open: Daily to taste at Gravity Winery & Cellar Door Mahana. 11am - 5pm.

Rare, handcrafted small-batch wines of unique and distinctive character from limestone soils. Come and meet the family behind the wines at our charming cellar door. Our extra-virgin olive oil is also available. Delightful vineyard accommodation on-site.

KINA BEACH VINEYARD

Boutique vineyard in stunning coastal setting at Kina Peninsula. Visit our Tasting Room for a tasting of our single estate, handcrafted wines. Relax and unwind in one of our romantic vineyard cottages, overlooking the Moutere Estuary and Tasman Bay.

Open: Christmas to 31 Jan: Thurs - Sun, 1.30pm - 5pm. Feb to Easter: Sat - Sun, 1.30pm - 5pm. Or by appointment.

KINA CLIFFS VINEYARD

Taste award winning Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Rosé from this 8-acre single vineyard with spectacular views. Just 2km from the cycle trail and 200m from the beach.

Open: Nov to Christmas: Thurs - Sun, 12pm - 5pm. After Christmas to 28 Feb: Tues - Sun, 12pm - 5pm. March: Thurs - Sun, 12pm - 5pm. Closed Public Holidays.

BLACKENBROOK VINEYARD

A true family vineyard and winery where simplicity and gentle processes are producing award-winning results.

RUBY BAY VINEYARD

Come and enjoy our beautiful, handcrafted, award winning wines, luxury cottage accommodation, and breathtaking views over the vineyard to Tasman Bay beyond. Cellar door tastings and sales of Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Méthode Traditionelle.

RIMU WINE BAR/RIMU GROVE

Rimu Wine Bar is home to the Rimu Grove tasting room where you can taste our full range of wines. The Wine Bar also offers an extensive range of premium Nelson wines. All wines are available by the glass and by the bottle, with retail bottle sales. Enjoy wood-fired pizzas and platters at the picturesque Māpua Wharf.

Moutere Hills

The rolling hills and gravel threaded clay soils of this ancient river system are renowned for producing wines of richness and texture. Try the deeply flavoured Pinot Noir with refined soft tannins. The Chardonnay is complex and multi-faceted with excellent structure, and winemakers also produce excellent Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Gris.

MOUTERE HILLS VINEYARD

Boutique vineyard nestled in a unique, idyllic location. Forsters restaurant overlooks the vineyard, serving the finest local produce, paired with the extensive range of Moutere Hills wines. The Fox ‘n’ Grapes bar is open Friday evenings from 5pm.

Open: Summer: Sun - Thurs 11am – 4.30pm. Fri - Sat 11am – 9pm.

HEAPHY VINEYARDS

Offers a selection of their own wines as well as the premium Kahurangi Mt Arthur Reserve range of wines, which are all made at the Heaphy Winery. Sample and purchase these great wines from some of the South Island’s oldest vines. Home to North Eatery for seasonal pizza, vegetables and platters.

Open: Wed – Sun, 11am to 4pm.

Our cellar door offers visitors a wine journey like no other in the Nelson region. Taste your way around New Zealand’s top wine regions without taking a step, showcasing award-winning wines from Nelson, Hawke’s Bay, Central Otago and Marlborough. Learn about our winemaking philosophies while visiting the unique and impressive gravity-fed winery. We offer tastings, tours, wine sales, local platters, a local art gallery and stunning views.
