JMA honor society members host blood drive The JMA National Honor Society hosted its annual Red Cross blood drive in the Trojan Center on Wednesday, Jan. 20. The club exceeded its donation goal — collecting 30 usable donations — from students, staff and community participants. Oconee RESA held the 15th annual Regional Technology Competition at Central Georgia Technical College in Milledgeville on Friday, Feb. 5. Two hundred seventy-six students from 12 different schools in Baldwin, Jasper, Johnson, Washington and Wilkinson counties participated in this year’s competition with a total of 209 projects. Schools were invited to submit the first and second place winners from their local competitions to compete. First place regional winners will advance to the Georgia State Technology Fair on March 5, at Middle Georgia State College – Macon Campus. Creekside's winners were: Jilly Rourke and Rachel Brooks (fourth grade) first place for a recipe website Riya Patel (fifth grade) - first place for a website she built for her family's hotel Charley Cruey (fifth grade) - first place for a cube of LED lights controlled by scripted code Nadia Cazacu and Abby Blount (fourth grade) first place for a robot programmed by scripted code and controlled by light and barrier sensors Ashley Tyson and Emma Kate Godin (fourth grade) - second place for a robotic arm controlled by scripted code.

JMA students tour Indian Mounds John Milledge Academy third-graders took a trip to the Indian Mounds in Macon. BHS Beta assists with Math Mania Baldwin High School Beta Club assisted with the elementary schools’ Math Mania. Students helped check answers, escort visitors to the right location and assist teachers with monitors in the rooms while students waited to compete. The students also enjoyed Firehouse Subs for lunch donated by the BHS PBIS team and the BHS media center. Firehouse Subs donated the drinks, cups and plates. Contributed photo
BHS leadership students complete ‘Do Good’ project
The Baldwin High School Chick-fil-A Leader Academy students would like to thank everyone who made a donation to the 'Do Good December Project.' The students were able to stuff 30 stockings. They stuffed stockings for younger children as well as young adults. The stockings were filled with candy,iTunes gift cards, ear buds, socks and personal hygiene items. The stockings were delivered to DFACS during the holidays. They were distributed to different families in the communities to help with Christmas. This project would not have been possible without the contributions of others. BHS student earns Presidential Scholarship Meghan Dietrich from Baldwin High School was awarded a Presidential Scholarship to Georgia College. The scholarship is for $4,000 a year, renewable each year, and includes a stipend to travel abroad. Contributed photo

Eagle Ridge students take part in tech fair
Several of Eagle Ridge's fourth and fifth grade students recently participated in the Oconee RESA 16th annual Regional Technology Competition. All competitors did an outstanding job presenting their projects. Eagle Ridge had five teams that won first place. Nyema Johnson and Asia Morris; Chavares Battle and Montavious Williams; Jaylen Brantley and Jordon Jackson; Ollieah Lary and Aziza Rosario; Kamren Kennedy and Elisha Cleveland have advanced to the state competition that will be held at Middle Georgia State College in March. Eagle Ridge also had five teams that earned second place finishes. These included DeQuan Pinkston and Julius Moore; Dylan Smith and Christopher Baxley; Bernasia Simmons and Shacara Gordon; Lagabriel Ingram and Avery Sanford; and Cheyenne Mosley and Erica Bateman. JMA FCA supports mission trip

The John Milledge Academy middle school FCA is supporting teacher Ellen Kirkland’s mission trip to Honduras through the Ebenezer Baptist Association. Students are collecting hygiene products and other small items that will be shipped to Orphanage Emmanuel in Honduras this summer. Shanteona Keys, a graduate and former basketball player at Georgia College is working with FCA in the area. She has attended several of JMA FCA meetings and encouraged several of the Georgia College players to also support the mission. These players, along with Keys, are not only supporting the mission, but are also hoping to encourage JMA middle schoolers to do the same.
