Union City turned pink for a powerful cause as residents, families, and partners came together for a morning rooted in awareness, movement, and unity. The 12th Annual Pinktober 5K Color Run once again proved that when our community shows up together, the impact reaches far beyond the finish line.

UNION CITY’S 12 ANNUAL PINKTOBER 5K COLOR RUN

What an incredible morning it was in Union City as the 12th Annual Pinktober 5K Color Run brought the community together in a vibrant wave of pink, purpose, and positivity. From the moment participants gathered at the starting line to the final stride across the finish, the energy throughout the course reflected a shared commitment to breast cancer awareness, wellness, and support for those impacted by the disease

Runners and walkers of all ages filled the route with color and enthusiasm, creating an atmosphere that was both uplifting and empowering. Families, friends, survivors, and supporters came together not just to complete a race, but to stand in solidarity and honor the strength and resilience of those affected by breast cancer Each step taken and every splash of color served as a reminder that awareness and action go hand in hand.

This annual event has become a meaningful tradition in Union City, growing stronger with each passing year. Now in its twelfth year, the Pinktober 5K Color Run continues to demonstrate the power of community engagement and the importance of creating spaces where people can come together for a cause that touches so many lives. The morning was filled with smiles, encouragement, and moments of reflection, all woven into an experience that left a lasting impression on participants and spectators alike.

The success of this year’s event would not have been possible without the support of dedicated partners and sponsors who believe in the mission behind Pinktober. A heartfelt thank you goes to Amazon, Piedmont Fayette, Edge Connex, CKKB INC, and GFL Environmental for their continued investment in this event and their commitment to supporting health awareness initiatives in Union City. Their partnership plays a vital role in ensuring this tradition continues to thrive year after year

As the color settled and the final participants crossed the finish line, one thing was clear. The impact of the Pinktober 5K extends far beyond race day. It sparks conversations, strengthens connections, and reinforces Union City’s commitment to supporting important causes together. Growing Together for a Greener Union City!

Union City’s Growing Together initiative continues to build momentum by encouraging residents to reclaim spaces, strengthen neighborhoods, and take simple actions that create lasting impact. From community cleanups and landscaping efforts to everyday sustainable choices, this initiative is about coming together to create beauty, pride, and environmental responsibility across the City.

One easy way residents are making a difference is by switching to reusable bags Did you know one reusable tote can replace hundreds, even thousands, of plastic bags each year? Growing Together totes are already popping up at cleanups, Yard of the Month celebrations, and around town, helping reduce plastic waste, keep neighborhoods cleaner, and support a healthier, greener Union City.

Whether you are planting flowers, transforming your yard, or choosing reusable items for daily errands, every effort counts When Union City grows, we all grow together

GROWING TOGETHER THROUGH WINTER GARDENING

PROTECTING YOUR GARDEN AND KEEPING IT PRODUCTIVE ALL SEASON LONG

As temperatures drop, preparing your garden for winter is essential for maintaining healthy plants and ensuring strong growth in the spring Winterizing your garden protects plants from cold weather, improves soil health, and helps prevent pests and disease during the colder months

Simple steps such as clearing out dead plants and debris, adding mulch to insulate soil, and covering sensitive plants with frost cloth or burlap can make a significant difference Watering plants before freezing temperatures and preparing garden beds with compost or organic matter also help strengthen roots and improve soil conditions for the next growing season Outdoor containers should be insulated or moved to sheltered areas to prevent damage

Keeping your garden healthy throughout winter does not have to be complicated Key tasks include removing fallen leaves, wrapping delicate plants, bringing tender potted plants indoors, cleaning and storing garden tools, checking for winter pests, and planning your spring planting layout

Winter gardening does not mean growth comes to a halt Cold hardy vegetables such as kale, collard greens, carrots, broccoli, cabbage, and spinach thrive in cooler temperatures. Winter flowers including pansies, violas, camellias, and hellebores add seasonal color, while herbs like parsley, thyme, rosemary, and sage remain resilient during the colder months.

With a little preparation and the right plant choices, residents can enjoy healthy gardens year-round. Winter care today helps ensure a thriving and productive garden tomorrow.

FALL CLEAN-UP BRINGS COMMUNITY TOGETHER

During the clean-up, residents dropped off 49.5 tons of trash, more than 150 tires for recycling, and 7,000 pounds of metal, which was hauled to the foundry for recycling These results reflect the community’s commitment to environmental responsibility and a cleaner, healthier Union City. Events like this demonstrate how collective participation can lead to meaningful, citywide impact.
