Dollar General Store Coming to Union Twp. By Paul Chasko
South Park Veteran Honored by Congressman Tim Murphy
Construction of a Dollar General store in Union Twp. is pretty much a reality now that all legal permits and reviews have been completed. With a variance to the Union Twp. Zoning Ordinance approved at a July 26 zoning hearing, GBT Realty of Tennessee has completed all permitting requirements and is free to begin construction of a Dollar General Store, which it will lease to the Dollar General Company. This will be the first new retail business opening in Union Twp. in quite a few years. The new store will be constructed on property that was owned by Willis Abel on the South Margin of Route 88, West of Walter Long Road, where the Snow Zone used to sit. The new store will add to the nearly 9,600 Dollar General stores nationwide. Access to the site will be via a single driveway connecting to Route 88. Hours of operation have not been set. A typical Dollar General store uses 3-4 employees per shift so there will be a few new job opportunities in Union Twp. most likely before the end of the year. Robert Gage of GBT Realty expects construction to begin this fall.
Family Hospice and Palliative Care patient Ned Wells of South Park was presented with an American flag that had flown over the U.S. Capitol, by Congressman Tim Murphy. Family Hospice requested the honor from Murphy in tribute to Wells’ service to our country as a Merchant Marine during World War II. Congressman Murphy personally thanked Wells for his time in the Merchant Marines. Pictured here with Ned Wells (seated) are Congressman Murphy, his wife Joanne Wells, and three of the Wells’ grandchildren.
