Bentleyville Borough Hosts Annual ‘Run for Alex’ Race
T
he annual ‘Run for Alex’ Race, sponsored by the From Alex with Love Foundation, was held on the streets of Bentleyville on June 2, 2012. The race is held annually in memory of Alexzandra Danielle Loos who, at the age of 15 in 2004, was struck and killed by a speeding car while walking home from soccer practice at Bentworth High Schoool. Loos was a star athlete in track and soccer. The race features a 5 mile and 2 mile run and a 1 mile walking course. This year’s participants totaled 1,188 runners and walkers. Proceeds from this event fund scholarships for local students. 2012 ‘Run for Alex’ Race winners include Kevin Gregg of McMurray, PA at 10:07 in the 2 mile run and Brandon Gillingham of Pittsburgh, PA at 27:41 in the 5 mile run. 2012 scholarship recipients include: Scott Wytovich, Jessica Cole, Shannon Alysse Scott, Katie Seech, Donald Zimak, Carey Wood, Kyle Cline, and Kara Dunmire.
