PLANT AND BAKE SALE - The First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon, located at 501 Fayette St. will hold their annual ‘Plant and Bake Sale’ on Saturday May 20 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. ANNUAL PLANT SALE AND GARDEN MARKET - The Giant Oaks Garden Club (GOGC) will sponsor its 22nd Annual Plant Sale and Garden Market on Saturday, May 20 at the Peters Township Public Library, in Peters Township. The plant sale will feature a large variety of quality potted perennial plants selected from members’ gardens. The sale runs from 9:00 a.m. until 12 Noon, rain or shine. Time strictly enforced. Also featured are herbs, vegetables, annuals, hanging baskets and raffle baskets of gardening items. GOGC members, many of whom are Master Gardeners, are available to assist and answer individual gardening questions from the public. The Garden Market will feature new and lightly used gardening items. SHOW - The Claysville Community Center will be holding their Annual Spring Vendor & Craft show on May 20 and 21. This will happen during the same time as the returning Pike Festival, which is slated to live up to past events. The craft show will be at the Center, located at 212 Main Street in Claysville. The show will be running both days from 10:00AM –4:00PM. Parking is available at the side of the building, behind the building and along Main Street. HUNTER SAFETY CLASSElizabeth Township Sportsmen Association on Sunday, May 21, from 8:00 AM until 3:30 PM. The class if free, and all books and materials will be provided by the Game Commission who is sponsoring the event. Free Lunch provided by the ETSA organization. FREE FISHING DERBY - A free fishing derby will be held on Sunday, May 21, at Northmoreland Park from 8:00am to 1:00pm. This event is sponsored by the Westmoreland County Bureau of Parks and Recreation, the Westmoreland County Sportsmen’s League, and Dick’s Sporting Goods. First and sec- ond place trophies and gift certificates will be awarded for longest trout, longest carp, and longest other fish of legal size in both the adult and youth divisions. A trophy and certificate will also be awarded for the best “Catch of the Day” in both youth and adult categories. Adults age 16 and older must display a valid 2023 Pennsylvania Fishing License. Registration is free and begins at 7:30am on the lakeside deck outside of the Activity Center. Youth contestants must be registered by 12:00 noon to be eligible for door prizes. Northmoreland Park is accessible via Route 356 from Routes 56 and 66. THE CLOTHES 4 U MINISTRY -

The Clothes 4 U ministry of the Belle Vernon First United Methodist Church, 200 State Street, will be open to the public on Tuesday, May 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon. We are in need of children's clothing at this time. But all donations of gently used clothes are appreciated. We are strictly donations in and donations out. We do not charge for our clothing. The only thing we ask is that you only take what you need and do not resale. Thank you for helping us help the people of the Mon Valley area.

World War Ii Presentation

– The West Jefferson Hills Historical Society will present a special World War II program at its May meeting. Author Todd DePastino will relate the incredible story of Operation Pastorius, an ambitious German attempt to sabotage American industry and transportation, including the Horseshoe Curve. Landing eight saboteurs on Long Island and Florida from two U-boats, the operation was a comedy of errors, but it reveals much about the characters of the two countries at war. Both society and community members are invited to hear this program on a little-known WWII tale at the WJHHS May meeting, 7:00 P.M. on May 24 in the Community Rooms of the Jefferson Hills Borough Building.

MEMORIAL DAY PARADE & EVENTS - The Kastan Uveges VFW Post 7632, its Auxiliary and the Alonzo L. Weigle American Legion Post 553 will hold A Memorial Day parade and ceremony that will be held in Elizabeth on Monday, May 29. The parade starts at 9:30AM with the ceremony immediately following. The committee is requesting any veterans or active-duty military personnel who want to ride in the parade to contact Kim Olcott at 412-527-7034 by May 15. The ceremony will be held in the parking lot next to the Elizabeth Volunteer Fire Company social hall.

Summer Car Cruises Announced at Thomas Presbyterian

Join us at Thomas Presbyterian Church at 1068 Linden Road, Eighty Four, PA for our 2023 Car Cruises. The first Car Cruise will be held on May 13 and all cruises run from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. We have good food and great tuners. Even if you are not a car person come on down and have a burger, hot dog, or meatball sandwich.

The 2023 car cruise schedule is as follows: May 13, May 27, June 10, June 24, July 8, July 22, and August 5. We will then close out the season with our annual Pig Roast and Car Show on August 19. All the proceeds from the car cruises are used to support a mission trip. The proceeds from our Pig Roast and Car Show are donated to Pittsburgh based Life Changing Service Dogs for Vets. Come on down and help us support these two worthy causes.

‘Great Green Swap’ Event in West Newton

Do you have a green thumb and wish that you had more plants to dig your fingers into? Then you won’t want to miss the ‘Great Green Swap’ on May 6 at the West Newton gymnasium, 113 North 5th Street in West Newton from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This second annual plant swap is a FREE EVENT. Individuals will have a chance to bring plants from their home, and trade them for new plants of their choosing. Plant categories that you may bring: Indoor plants, House plants, Vegetables, Herbs, Outdoor plants, and Perennials. Guests will also enjoy childrens gardening activities, gardening demonstrations, master gardeners presentation, bee hive information, and a basket raffle.

Handmade and Vintage Market in South Park

Join us on May 6 for a ‘Handmade & Vintage Market’ filled with 40 local sellers. This unique market will be held in Buildings 3 and 4 in the South Park Fairgrounds area at 1888 Brownsville Rd. (Across from South Park Police Station) from 10:00AM – 4:00PM. There will also be a gift basket raffle and 50/50. Proceeds benefit local arts organization.
