About Tunnels to Towers The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is committed to ensuring we never forget 9/11 and the sacrifices made by our heroic first responders and military. The foundation pays off the mortgages of law enforcement officers and firefighters who lose their lives in the line of duty (or to 9/11-related illnesses) and leave behind young children. T2T also builds mortgage-free smart homes to meet the unique needs of our most catastrophically injured veterans and first responders and for the families of fallen service members. Started in December of 2001, the Foundation has raised more than $500 million to support our nation’s greatest heroes and their families. More than 1,000 mortgage-free homes have been delivered or are in progress. More than half a million people have participated in T2T’s national run, walk and climb series. T2T was founded in tribute to New York Fire Department firefighter Stephen Siller, who died on September 11, 2001 during the 9-11 attacks.
