WELCOME

The University of South Wales delivers workshops, presentations and interactive activities for Year 12 and 13 (or college equivalent) students to inspire and inform them of the opportunities they have following school and college.

Students are invited to visit our campuses, use our state-of-the-art facilities, listen to our expert lecturers and discover the exciting opportunities available in STEM.

We also have a range of outreach sessions available to be delivered in your school or college.

Environmental Science and Natural History Taster Day: Our Environmental Science courses focus on tackling the challenges and solving the problems of climate change, renewable resources, environmental pollution, conservation for biodiversity and environmental management. We encourage school and college students to explore these subjects by providing hands-on practical experiences on-campus at USW.

CHEMICAL AND PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES

Spectroscopy Masterclass:

Students will strengthen their understanding of Spectroscopy IR and NMR with an introductory lecture followed by a practical workshop in our state-of-the-art laboratory facilities.

Pharmaceutical Science

Taster Day:

Students will gain hands-on practical experience of both physical and organic chemistry in our modern facilities.

FORENSIC SCIENCE AND INVESTIGATION

Forensics and Policing:

Students can participate in our new 'Crime Scene to Court' taster day. During the event students will explore how forensics and policing help to solve a particular case.

The activities include fingerprint identification within our forensic laboratories, along with procedures used by police officers to help with the investigation of the crime that has taken place.

Computing Taster Day: Our Computing and ICT courses are ideal for students who want to develop the essential practical skills that are needed for a long and varied career in the IT industry.

At this event you’ll get a chance to see how technology is used to solve realworld problems and get creative with some of our Raspberry Pi-powered kit, as you explore one of the key themes of our courses: The Internet of Things.

National Cyber Security Academy (NCSA) Taster Day: Your students will have the opportunity to experience collecting evidence at a digital crime scene; breaking codes to solve a cryptographic treasure hunt, solve escape room puzzles, hunt for and capture hidden flags in a Linux operating system, as well as many other aspects of online safety and security.

Engineering Taster Day: Choose from our range of engineering disciplines to build a PDC Engineering visit day that will suit your students.

USW Rocketry SocietyBuild Your Own Rocket: Students will be joined by our champion Rocketry Society for an introduction to rocketry and the opportunity to build their own rocket. We will then invite you and your students to launch your rockets at our launch site in Newport.
