How do you support students during their time at Bedfordshire? Myself and your Beds SU exec team are here to support and represent you across all of our campuses. We cover all areas of university life, making sure that you get the best possible education that you can, whilst you study here and much more. What are your words of wisdom for new, first year students? A quote I like to use is ‘Your future is whatever you make it, so make it a good one’. University life is rich with new and exciting opportunities for you to experience, so I would encourage you to break out of your comfort zone and try something new.

What is your favourite memory from first year? My favourite memory has to be all the events I attended. The events that are held at university allowed me to meet new people and make long term friends, and were also a great way to let off some steam. Where is your favourite place to chill out? The Metro bar has a warm and comfortable ambience. It is the best place to unwind in between lectures with friends, and even in the evenings when there are different events happening.

How do you support students during their first week at Bedfordshire? My role is to make sure all international students feel welcomed and have all the information they need when they arrive. I am also a point of contact during your study at Bedfordshire. I run various student experience programmes as part of the University’s More than a Degree initiatives. What is your favourite memory from working with students at the University? My favourite memories come from taking students on Go Global and Go Europe trips and helping and supporting the experience of a life time. Students have nicknamed me Uncle Lee.

The Metro Bar and Kitchen in Luton and The Hub in Bedford offer a range of food and drink offerings alongside a diverse events programme including pub quizzes, club nights, karaoke and society events. The Metro Bar and Kitchen, Luton campus By day the Metro Bar and Kitchen proudly serves Starbucks coffee along with a range of other beverages, sandwiches, panini’s and snacks. It’s a great space for socialising with friends, catching up on some course work or taking a well-deserved lunch break with a game of table tennis. By night the venue becomes the place to be with events such as karaoke, pub quizzes and various themed club nights. Evening food includes delicious freshly made pizzas and pasta dishes.

Student information desk (SiD) All of our support services can be accessed through the Student Information Desk (SiD). They’re located across all our campuses and you can speak to someone face-to-face, or get access online 24/7. The SiD team has been trained to know about all the services available, and will make sure we put you in touch with the right person. SiD Online is a 24/7 support tool which enables you to view and update enquiries, log new enquiries and search a database of over 500 Frequently Asked Questions, via the internet.

YOUR LIBRARY Our students have fantastic multimedia study resources at their fingertips in our cutting-edge, well equipped libraries. In 2016 a purpose built, seven-storey library opened at our Luton campus. The library features dedicated silent areas, breakout spaces and pods to facilitate group work, a cafe, and state-of-the-art IT and AV equipment.
To help with study needs we offer induction loops, height adjustable tables, flat-screen monitors, keyboards for visually impaired users and Keyboard Pro software for developing typing skills.

Our library resources Our extensive, sector-leading digital library is available from most devices with internet access. Explore the full range of print and online books, journals, articles, databases, exam papers and dissertations with DISCOVER – the online single search tool that searches most electronic resources and the library catalogue in one go. It saves time by showing what’s available to read online, what’s on the shelves and how to reserve items from another campus.
The Study Hub based within our library facilities, brings together three teams of specialists: Academic Liaison Librarians, Computer Skills Trainers and Professional and Academic Development (PAD) Tutors and Trainers. These teams offer a wide range of learning opportunities which will help you develop your academic skills and improve your assignment writing techniques; leading to better grades and enhanced employability. FINANCE We want to make sure that financing your studies is as simple and affordable as possible. Here at the University of Bedfordshire we offer a range of scholarships to support you. UK and EU students University funding Our postgraduate High Achiever Scholarship offers a 50% fee waiver for third year undergraduates who achieve a first class undergraduate degree and go straight onto a full-time Master’s degree*. *T&Cs apply
Non-university funding Postgraduate study is a major investment and requires sound financial planning. There are lots of non-university funding options available. However, it is important to remember that non-university funding is not automatically awarded for some postgraduate study in the UK. • Government-backed postgraduate student loan – up to £10,609 a year for taught and research Master’s courses • Career Development Loans – designed to cover course fees and other costs such as books, childcare and living expenses if you are studying full-time • Research Studentships – awarded to a student to work on a research project at a university • Research Council Grants – each year they award around 6,000 studentships • Employer sponsorship – your employer may have a budget for staff development and may consider funding your course • Local Education Authority (LEA) Grants – your Local Authority may make limited discretionary awards for postgraduate study • Educational trusts and charities – there are a number of trusts that may be able to provide funding for postgraduate study
• Part-time employment – many postgraduate students have to work alongside their studies; our award winning Careers and Employment Service can help • National Careers Service – contact the National Careers Service for more information about funding options in your individual circumstances Please note: You cannot apply for both the postgraduate loan and the career development loan. International students Vice Chancellor’s Scholarships of £1,000 are available to International students. You may also be eligible for a £500 prompt payment discount if you pay your full tuition fee before or at registration. All students need to pay at least 65% of their full fees in order to register. Merit scholarships of £500 are also available based on your English qualifications and previous academic qualifications. Bedfordshire alumni could also receive the Alumni loyalty scholarship – up to £3,500 for those who have studied their undergraduate degree with us and wish to progress to postgraduate study, or those who have studied a postgraduate degree with us and progress directly on to a research degree with us. Part-time employment – many postgraduate students have to work alongside their studies; our award winning Careers and Employment Service can help. ACCOMMODATION As a postgraduate student, there are many housing options available at our Luton and Bedford campuses where you can make yourself right at home – and the University can provide help and guidance on finding the perfect place. Luton campus
Milton Keynes accommodation
The University of Bedfordshire’s Student Village has dedicated buildings for all postgraduate students, as well as for those over 25, so you can make the most of your time and focus on your studies. There are two categories of rooms for you to choose from – you can choose to stay in our en-suite accommodation at Fitzroy and Wenlock Court with a free on-site gym, games room and modern social spaces, or our standard rooms with shared bathroom and kitchen facilities. All of our accommodation comes equipped with a bed, desk, wardrobe and free Wi-Fi, with a shared kitchen. Many of our postgraduate students take advantage of our self-contained studio apartments with an en-suite bathroom and kitchen for a little more privacy.
All Milton Keynes students are welcome to stay at our Bedford campus. Located just 45 minutes away from Milton Keynes, you can take advantage of staying at University endorsed accommodation, as well as having access to a free shuttle bus, which takes you to and from our Milton Keynes and Bedford campuses during term times. Bedford campus You will have everything you need to settle into postgraduate life at the Student Village or at Liberty Park, in Bedford. Located directly on campus, there are a number of different options for you, from standard rooms with a shared bathroom and kitchen, to en-suite rooms at the Student Village. Or if your budget stretches a bit further, we also offer a range of en-suite rooms at Liberty Park. All rooms come well equipped with a bed, wardrobe and free Wi-Fi.
Added benefits Safety first – we take security very seriously, so we have 24-hour security at both campuses including electronic card entry to the premises and CCTV, plus security guards and customer service teams. Our all-inclusive prices include the cost of all utility bills, in-room Wi-Fi and contents insurance, as well as access to some great events and activities on site.

Secure accommodation for healthcare students Most students choose to live in the NHS accommodation based at High Wycombe, Stoke Mandeville or Wexham Park hospital but there are also options with private providers near the hospital sites. Rent levels vary depending on your chosen hospital. Once your university place is confirmed we will contact you regarding accommodation. The accommodation provider will then send you a full accommodation pack.
Away from halls Choosing where to live can be a big decision and there are so many options to choose from. The university recommends living in our purpose-built student halls, but don’t worry if that’s not for you. HOW TO FIND US Our campuses are easy to get to by road, rail or air. So, wherever you are coming from, just follow these simple directions: Luton campus Situated 30 miles north of London, the University’s Luton campus boasts superb road, rail and air links. • Luton is just off the M1 at junction 10 northbound, and junction 11 southbound • Luton railway station is a five-minute walk from the Luton campus and is served by Thameslink trains from London St Pancras International and Bedford • London Luton Airport is three miles away and has easy access by taxi or airport bus
