PU lacquer: protection from scratches, stains and dirt
An extra polyurethane (PU) protective layer improves scratch and stain resistance. Fighting off the spills and accidents of family life, and completely pet-proof, it enhances everyday performance and makes the floor a breeze to clean.
Structured emboss: a natural look with excellent grip
An embossing roller applies a natural wood or stone structure to the hardwearing surface for a more natural appearance. The structured emboss also gives sheet vinyl flooring better slip-resistance, making it perfect for barefoot or busy areas.
Pattern: contemporary, natural design
This layer is where we bring contemporary natural designs to life. The process is in-house from start to finish for original designs that are printed with eco-friendly inks. We use multiple cylinders for a more detailed and refined design.
Print layer: for sharper design
This second PVC layer is applied to smooth out the stabilising glass fibre beneath and to provide a finish that’s perfect for creating high-quality designs with high definition.
Glass fibre: strength and stability
Glass fibre brings strength and stability to the construction, giving the advantage that you don't need expansion gaps. Preventing contraction, expansion, cracking and curling, it ensures the floor stays where it should. Important when it comes to rapid temperature changes such as those experienced in holiday homes or recreational vehicles.
PVC backing: versatility in performance
This waterproof PVC backing layer is available in different specifications so we can tweak the performance of the floor: super-strong compactback, powerback for impact resistance or thermoback for better thermal insulation.
Wear layer: durability for a lasting family floor
Made in-house for the best in reliability and quality, the PVC wear layer makes sure the floor will last for years.
Impregnation layer: enhanced
Permeating through the glass fibre in a process that’s similar to reinforced concrete, the impregnation layer adds dimensional stability.
Textile backing: easier installation and more comfort
Last but certainly not least, our high-quality textile backing has many advantages. It smooths out irregularities in the subfloor, saving time and costs, and gives better acoustic and thermal insulation. Textile backing
Building on the benefits of our PVC backing, we’ve also added a high-quality textile layer. This smooths out irregularities in the subfloor, saving time and costs, especially on larger surfaces. Our range comprises five distinct textile backings, each offering unique advantages.
Comfort White
Used in most of our collections, our medium-density Comfort White textile backing offers great value for money. Its strong fibres give excellent performance.
Thermal White
With its thickness, density, weight of 240 g/m², acoustic performance, and thermal benefits, Thermal White textile backing is the ultimate solution for creating serene and comfortable, energy-efficient spaces.
100% Recycled Grey
The newest addition to our range of textile backings is made from 100% recycled PET bottles. Its speckled grey hue results from a blend of black and white recycled fibres.
Premium Black
With its luxurious feel, our Premium Black textile backing, weighing 150g/m², ensures the highest-quality flooring experience, with enhanced underfoot comfort and elevated acoustic performance.
Social Plastic®
This textile backing is made with recycled materials, including Social Plastic®. Collected at land and beach, Social Plastic® from Plastic Bank® is an ethically sourced recycled material that drives environmental, social and economic impact.
Back emboss
For fully glued-down installation, textured embossing on the back of the sheet vinyl flooring helps give a better grip to the subfloor.
Quadrant back emboss
We emboss a quadrant-shaped texture into the backing of our compact flooring, for a better grip when the floor is fully glued down.
Diamond back emboss
We emboss a diamond-shaped texture into the foamed backing layer, for a better grip when the floor is fully glued down.

THE BENEFITS OF TEXTILE BACKING
Standard sheet vinyl flooring is known for its natural designs and great comfort, so what makes textile-backed sheet vinyl flooring so special? Well, with the extra textile layer all the benefits are amplified, resulting in floors that are even more quiet, comfortable, warm and easy to look after. What’s more, textile-backed sheet vinyl flooring can be installed without glue on an even bigger surface than usual, and its ability to smooth out irregularities in the subfloor makes it ideal for renovation projects.
Comfort
With the extra insulation coming from the textile backing, heat is better retained, and shocks are better absorbed, resulting in a sense of well-being when walking on the floor with your bare feet. Warmer and more comfortable to walk on, textile-backed sheet vinyl flooring makes for happier feet.
Acoustics
The combination of the textile backing and a dense, compact foam layer is a winner when it comes to sound. It’s a pairing that stops noise travelling through the floor and which has the ability to reduce the volume of music, fun and laughter. Muting the sound of footsteps, too, textile-backed sheet vinyl flooring is the perfect choice for anyone seeking more peace and silence in their home.
Installation
Textile-backed sheet vinyl floors can easily be installed over existing tiles or floorboards. The textile layer smooths out lumps and bumps in the subfloor or an existing floor where joints are no wider than 3 mm and deeper than 2 mm. If the room is smaller than 45 m², the floor doesn’t need to be glued down – two features which save time and cost. The backing’s superior tear resistance is another advantage during installation, and the textile layer also improves the dimensional stability of the floor, ensuring it will stay rock solid in every climate.

Recommended way of installation
Textile backing
Loose-lay tape makes it possible to install sheet vinyl flooring without the use of adhesives or interlocking systems. With this specialised tape, your (semi-) loose-lay sheet vinyl floor is guaranteed to stay securely fitted, while remaining easy to remove and replace. The tape guarantees 100% (semi-) loose-lay vinyl floor installation.

A GREEN FACTORY
Our plants in Europe, located in Belgium, Luxembourg and Poland, provide employment to more than 550 people. The plant in Avelgem (Belgium) was built in 1997 in accordance with the latest standards. In 2006, we took over a sheet vinyl production site in Wiltz (Luxembourg) and in 2022 we acquired Lentex Wykladziny, located in Lubliniec (Poland). In every plant and in every step of our production lines, we produce our sheet vinyl flooring to the highest possible sustainable standards.

Smart use of resources
When producing our vinyl, we use all raw materials as consciously as possible:
• Our raw materials are delivered in bulk to avoid unnecessary packaging.
• A part of our energy consumption comes from our wind farm and solar panels
• The water used in the process comes from the river Scheldt
The gelling drums recuperate the heat from the oven through a revolutionary heat recovery program
• Post-industrial vinyl waste is recycled and reused for production purposes, with a circular economy in mind.
• External heat wheel to recover internal energy.
Smart choice of suppliers: we look for green-energy made raw materials and recycled content with focus on ethical and social responsibility

TOWARDS CIRCULARITY
Recover, A new life for floors
We try to reduce our environmental impact not only by producing efficiently, but also by the way we use materials. Today, production waste from sheet vinyl flooring and post-installation materials returned through our Recover Take Back Program are being recycled or repurposed for use in the backing of LVT products. This way, we work towards our goal of a more circular product.
How we recover sheet vinyl flooring
1. COLLECTING
After installation or at end-of-life, old floors and rest rolls are collected into bags or on pallets. The customer contacts us to arrange collection.
2. TRANSPORT
Depending on what we’ve collected, we have several options to bring the waste back: to our recycling centres, send it to one of our partners or send it back to base.
3. SORTING
Before the collected materials are ready for recycling, they need to be sorted and cleaned before being shredded.
4. RECYCLING
At recycling centres, we convert flooring to raw materials for LVT or for other applications such as street furniture.
5. NEW FLOORING
The recycled material is used as raw material for new LVT flooring.
6. OTHER APPLICATIONS
If returned material can’t be recycled into new flooring because of contamination or not REACH compliant, we then look for other applications.
All roll ends, off-cuts, and non-contaminated flooring produced after 2008 can be recycled through our Recover programme (excluding safety flooring). This service is available in Europe (BE/NL/UK/LUX/FR/DE/CZ/PL) For more information, please contact us at Recover@unilin.com.
CASE STUDIES
Our partners in Recover are growing
We have several B2B partners working to take back sheet vinyl flooring, and the interest is growing globally. Partners who are main contributors to our programme are Trirecycle (UK), Jordan (DE), JMT Floorcoverings (NL) and Rubik (DE), as well as many French customers and distributors such as GTM bâtiment, Vinci construction and Bouygues bâtiment who collect post-installation sheet vinyl flooring.
Introducing our partners to the recycling process
Last year, JMT Floorcoverings recovered 6 tonnes of sheet vinyl flooring. We visited a recycling centre with them, observing how 4 tonnes was recycled into granules intended for specific, non-flooring applications (downcycling).
Another 1.2 tonnes was used for an innovative pilot, recycling textile-backed vinyl into granules that can be reused as a raw material for our LVT flooring.
King Charles’ Coronation
United Kingdom
For King Charles’ Coronation in Westminster Abbey, London, we supplied 726 m2 of Ultimate Wood & Stone and Bingo sheet vinyl flooring, totalling 1.2 tonnes. After the event, we recovered and fully recycled the flooring, demonstrating our commitment to sustainability.
2024: 245 tons sheet vinyl or around 600 tons CO2 saved in Europe and UK.
2025: targeting 350-430 tons sheet vinyl or up to 1000 tons CO2 emission reduction

Stopping plastic waste and improving lives
For our textile-backed products, we’re working together with Plastic Bank®. Every day, Plastic Bank® communities search for plastic waste and bring it to local collection centres. In exchange, they are rewarded with lifeimproving benefits including health, work and life insurance, digital connectivity, grocery vouchers, school supplies, fintech services, and more. Plastic Bank® currently stops plastic waste in Indonesia, the Philippines, Egypt, Brazil, Thailand and Cameroon.
