I felt a calling to get involved with the Child and Family Guidance Center because I have a passion for mental healthcare and it being available for anyone who needs it. There is a stigma associated with mental health that keeps a lot of people from getting the help they need. It’s also difficult for some families to afford, and don’t have the money for it when they are already struggling to put food on the table. The Child & Family Guidance Center offers mental healthcare at low, and often no cost, based on the client’s ability to pay.
Many of the kids who come to the center have experienced trauma that most of us can only imagine. Being able to see a therapist while they are still young not only gives them a way to process and work through their pain, but also teaches them that it’s okay to get help when they need it. It should be just as natural to get mental healthcare when you’re hurting emotionally as it is going to a doctor or hospital when you’re sick or injured.
Most of the funds to operate the center come from grants, but about 15% comes from the Starfish Benefit hosted by the board each year. We are so excited to have you this year at the 2024 Starfish Benefit at the Blue Willow Cafe in Gateway Central! This is one of the best attended events in the area raising a lot of money for an amazing cause!

Liam, Age 7
Liam's mother brought him to the center to help him adjust to his parents' separation and his mother's serious medical conditions. Liam was struggling with his emotions, difficulty sleeping, and anxiety. He has been coming to the center for 10 months. He greets his therapist, Loren, with a huge smile of excitement for his sessions. He is sleeping better and has learned to identify and work through many of his fears.
Audreana, Age 9
Audreana is 9 years old and began therapy in August of 2023. Audreana has been attending sessions to cope with abandonment trauma and is being cared for by her Grandmother. Audreana has made a close connection with her therapist, Kelsey and she always comes to the center with a happy and positive attitude. With the help of Client-Centered Play Therapy, Audreana and Kelsey have been
working together to address her separation anxiety. Because of a safe space to express her thoughts and emotions, Audreana has been able to process and rethink her anxiety which has led to a decrease in her experience of anxious feelings.

When John first met Grace, she was sad and angry. Her mother was not in her life because of drug addiction, and she had suffered abuse while in the foster care system. Through various forms of play therapy, John was able to build a relationship with Grace and work on the healing process. Over time Grace has made great strides in reducing her depression, growing socially at school and with her adoptive family.
Valeria, Age 8
Valeria is 8 years old and began counseling due to her father being deported from our country due to an alleged felony report. Through play therapy and art therapy, Valeria and Sydney began to form a great therapeutic relationship. Her anxieties began to decrease quickly and her behavior at home began to improve after addressing her anxieties and learning to cope with and control them.

INDIVIDUAL, FAMILY, AND GROUP THERAPY
Sessions are designed to provide a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental environment that allows clients to talk about their concerns and feelings.
PLAY THERAPY
Play has often been described as the language of children. Our specially trained play therapists help young children express their most difficult feelings. Some of the tools therapists use in the play therapy process are games, books, toys, anatomically correct dolls, sand tray therapy, and art therapy.
CASE MANAGEMENT
A FREE customized resource needs assessment with CFGC’s Case Manager. This helps find clients and client’s families resources to assist in areas of need.
FAMILY EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM
Caregivers are provided support and resources by working directly with a master’s level intern to help them learn about their child’s diagnosis, emotional and behavioral problems, parenting skills assistance as well as their own mental healthcare needs.
PARENT EDUCATION PROGRAMS
A variety of award winning, evidence-based programs and curriculum are offered in group classes and individually to help parents strengthen their parenting skills.
MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL TRAINING
CFGC offers CEU training to staff and community mental health providers. We also provide internships to master level students and LPC interns.

CFGC is proud of the many professional relationships developed over the years that provide expanded services and resources to clients.
The Child & Family Guidance Center of Texoma is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency that receives financial support from generous community partners. Because of this generous support, no uninsured client is refused treatment because of financial limitations.
