WHAT IS NC-HCAP?
North Carolina Health Careers Access Program (NC-HCAP) is designed to work toward increasing the number of individuals from educationally or economically disadvantaged backgrounds who are trained, educated and employed in the health profession. The program does this through promoting career opportunities, cultivating interest and enhancing opportunities to gain access to formal training and education programs in health professions.

CLINICAL HEALTH SUMMER PROGRAM The Clinical Health Summer Program (CHSP) is an important component of NC-HCAP. CHSP is a seven-week experiential learning opportunity held each year from May through June. The 40-hour week salaried position consists of both clinical experiences in health care agencies and academic enrichment experiences provided by the UNCP NC-HCAP Office, as many professional programs necessitate clinical patient contact hours. The program provides underrepresented and minority students at UNCP with an opportunity to learn about the duties and responsibilities of a health professional and how a health care delivery system operates.

One letter of recommendation, preferably from a science faculty member Two faculty appraisal forms (provided by NC-HCAP), at least one from a science/math faculty member
HEALTH CAREERS CLUB The Health Careers Club envisions a society where there is equitable access to culturally competent health care training across all racial and ethnic groups. The club aims to achieve this by promoting awareness and interest in all areas of the health professions through community and campus involvement. As a member you will..... Hear from various health care professionals and representatives. Participate in trips to health professional schools and research facilities. Take part in community outreach endeavors. Gain leadership, professional and interpersonal skills.
