The cast members gather on the stage in a theatre to tell a story through songs, small scenes, and dance.
The characters meet a man named Jesus, who helps them learn lessons for living a good life. He is very likable and very charismatic, and all the characters grow to care for him and each other very much.

The musical tells many stories and the actors portray many roles within the musical.
The story is told with dancing, singing, and music. You may hear music in the theatre that actors may sing along to.

The set is made up of parts that are on the stage that help to tell where the story takes place. Actors may bring things on stage or have things brought to them. These things that the actors use to tell the story are called props. Some of these props may be things like water bottles, backpacks, and even food.

Godspell may seem loud sometimes as the actors sing and the music plays.
The show will also have bright lights on the stage. You may bring headphones, earplugs, or sunglasses to wear during the show.
You can also exit and re-enter the theatre any time you need to.

Godspell was originally produced in 1972 and was a story created by John-Michael Tebelak and the cast of the very first production. Stephen Schwartz, who also wrote the music and lyrics for Wicked, wrote songs to enhance the story and the musical was created.
This story has characters that are in the Bible, but most characters are the name of the actor playing them. Jesus and Judas/John the Baptist are the only characters that have a name different from their own.
This production is an edited version produced in 2012 on Broadway, with updated songs and orchestrations.
