W

arren Elliott “Randy” Koffler graduated from University Military School in 1968.

He was a top player on the tennis team his sophomore, junior, and senior years. He won #2 singles and #1 doubles at the state high school championship his senior year.

His team placed 2nd at the Southern District Tournament while playing for Coach Joe Dean.

Randy played local and state tournaments during his years at UMS and through the Mobile Tennis Center. He was ranked fourth in the South in the 16 and under age bracket, followed by rankings in the 18-year old bracket. He received the prestigious honor of SEC honorable mention his last two years in high school. Koffler showed his leadership by being Senior Class President, a member of the Student Council, Key Club, National Honor Society, and the “W” club. He held the ranks of Corporal, Sergeant, and finally Lieutenant his senior year.

After having an outstanding tennis career in high school, Koffler received the first tennis scholarship ever awarded by Vanderbilt University. While there, he lettered all four years while he played #2 singles his freshman and senior year, and #1 singles as a sophomore and junior.

He was also captain of the tennis team his senior year. He graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts.

Koffler continued his education at the University of Alabama Birmingham and completed a medical degree. In 1975, he moved to Mobile to complete his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at USA Medical Center. He has been practicing Internal Medicine for 34 years and is currently practicing at Providence Hospital where he has served as Chairman of the Medicine Department. He also sits on the board of the Providence Foundation and is a past member and president of the Mobile County Board of Health. He was a past president of Mirror Lake Racquet Club and is an active member of Christ United Methodist Church. He has two children, Jake Koffler ‘02 and Lauren Koffler Denton ‘9 7, who attended UMS-Wright.

He and his wife, Kaye, are blessed with three grandchildren.

F

orrest Gaines Crabtree graduated from UMS-Wright in 1997. While at UMSWright, he earned four varsity letters and played on the 1994, 1995, 1996, and 1997 State Championship golf teams. Other significant accomplishments included the 1995 Mobile Junior Metro Champion, 1996 American Junior Golf Association Rolex Tournament of Champions, and the 1996 Junior Golf Association of Mobile Player of the Year. He also played football and basketball one year in high school. Crabtree was a leader in his class as he was elected SGA president, junior class president, and was a member of the Honor Council his sophomore and freshman years. He was a recipient of the Dzwonkowski Brothers Golf Award and the Sage Lyons Award. In 1997 alone, Crabtree compiled the following impressive list of accomplishments: Alabama Golf Association (AGA) State Junior Champion, Hardaway Invitational Runner Up, AGA Amateur Runner Up, Alabama Open Amateur Division Champion and Overall Runner Up, and Jacksonville State Invitational Runner Up. Crabtree accepted a combination golf and academic scholarship to attend Samford University.

While there, he was Interfraternity Council President, a member of the golf team, and Tri-Beta National Biology Honor Society. He was also named Who’s Who American Colleges and

Universities. He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and continued his education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry where he received his D.M.D. in 2005. Crabtree’s golf career did not cease post-graduation. He was the champion of the Labor Day Invitational Mid Am in 2006, the Country Club of Mobile Club Championship in 2009 and 2010 and the AGA State Four Ball in 2011.

Crabtree has practiced Cosmetic, Family, and Implant Dentistry at Maitre and Crabtree Dental Group since 2005. He is a member of the Mobile District Dental Society, Alabama Dental Association, American Dental Association, Red Elephant Club, Mobile Touchdown Club, Alabama Golf Association, and is a former Deacon of Springhill Baptist Church. He and his wife, Kelly, have three children, Mac and Parker, who attend UMS-Wright, and Ellie.

A

dam Niles Hardy graduated from UMS-Wright in 2000. In the eighth grade, he began running varsity cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track and ran all four years of high school. During that time, he was an asset to 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000 Indoor and Outdoor Track State Championship Teams and the 1996, 1997, and 1999 Cross Country State Championship Teams. This remarkable athlete was an All-State selection in all three sports numerous times. He was the state runner up in cross country his sophomore and senior years.

He was a two-time individual champion in the 1600 meter and three time individual champion in the 3200 meter at the Indoor Track State Championships. At the State Indoor Track and Field Championships in 2000, Hardy won the 400 meter, 800 meter, and 3200 meter runs in state record times. He still holds the 800 meter state record in the 1A-4A category today. In outdoor track, he won the 3200 meter Individual State Outdoor Championship and then won both the 1600 meter and 3200 meter individual titles the next year. He was also a member of the 4x800 meter relay team which set a state record. His senior year, he swept the 400 meter, 800 meter, 1600 meter, and the 3200 meter races at the Outdoor State Track Meet and won the Individual State Championship in each race. That year, he was selected as Optimist Runner of the Year for cross country and State Indoor Outstanding Performer. He was also a recipient of the Hope Award, the James T. Overbey MVP Award, and the Buff Cope Memorial Award.

Hardy accepted an academic scholarship to Tulane University and ran cross country and track.

He graduated with a double major in French and Biology. He now lives in Durham, NC, where he is currently the lead GED instructor with the juvenile justice system.

A

lice Johnston Parker graduated from UMS-Wright in 2000 and ran cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track for Coach Galle and the Bulldogs. She accumulated six varsity letters while running cross country, was named MVP and all-state three times, and was the Individual State Champion in 1996. As a freshman, Parker received the prestigious recognition of being selected as one of the Mobile Register’s Super Seven. In addition, she was named Runner of the Year by the Mobile Optimist Club, The Alabama Cross Country Runner Magazine, Mobile Register, and Inside Alabama Track Magazine that year.

She also won the Vulcan Classic Individual Championships in 1994 and 1996. Parker led the 1997 girls indoor track team to a state championship as the MVP and did the same for both indoor and outdoor track and field that year as well. This remarkable athlete was an All-State

selection in both cross country and track in addition to being an All-County selection in cross country. At the State Outdoor Track and Field Championships during her career, Parker won the 4x400 meter race three times, 800 meter race three times, and the 1600 meter race. She was also part of a school record setting 4x800 meter relay team. In 2000, she, along with her team, won the Outdoor Girls State Championship. For her outstanding accomplishments, she received the Rebecca Montgomery Award. Off the track, Parker was a member of the Honor Council, FCA, Mu Alpha Theta, Quill and Scroll, and was an Alumni Spirit Award recipient.

While attending Mercer College in Macon, Georgia on a cross country scholarship, Parker broke the school records for the 5K and 6K. In 2010, she was honored for her achievements by being inducted into the Mercer Cross Country Hall of Fame. After she received her Bachelor of Arts in Art from Mercer, she returned to her alma mater to teach photography and assist coach Galle with the cross country and track teams. While coaching at UMS-Wright, she helped coach 7 State Championship teams (3 cross country, 1 indoor track, and 4 outdoor track). In the community, Parker is a member of Team OneVerse and Team Spiridon Road Racers and is an active member of her church. She and her husband, Justin, and girls, Mary Grace and Lena Anne, now live in Birmingham, where she is the Assistant Varsity Cross Country Coach and Director of E-learning at Briarwood Christian School.

T

homas “Forress” Rayford, Jr. graduated from UMS-Wright in 2003. During his UMSWright years, Rayford was a three-year letterman in football, basketball, and track. He was class president his junior and senior year and was a member of Key Club and Mu Alpha Theta. Rayford was also permanent team captain in varsity football and led the 2001 and 2002 football teams to back to back State Championships. He was named MVP of the 2002 State Championship Game, Team Offensive MVP, as well as, All-State and 2nd team All-Region. His senior year, he was selected to play in the Alabama North-South All-Star Game. In basketball, he was the team captain and was named the Best Defensive Player and All-County. Championships were also familiar to Rayford in track as he was a member of the 2001, 2002, and 2003 state championship teams. His contributions to those teams included: two-time state champion in pole vault and county and state champion in javelin. He was selected All-State twice in pole vault and once in javelin. Remarkably, Rayford also lettered in soccer his senior year while still excelling in track. Rayford was truly an all-around athlete and won numerous UMS-Wright awards for his accomplishments: The John Mosteller Award, the R.E. Hanks Award, Mr. Hero, and the Beverly R.”Ruff” Wilson MVP award. He was also a recipient of the Sage Lyon Award.

Rayford continued his education at the University of Alabama where he was a member of the football team all four years and a two-year letterman. He was selected by Coach Saban as a member of the Team Leadership Council-Peer Group. His senior year, he was selected as team captain for a game, special teams MVP, and won the Unsung Hero Award. Rayford graduated from Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Business Administration. He then returned home to work for the family business, Rayford & Associates Inc., and married his wife, Katie. Rayford gives his time back to UMS-Wright by serving on the Alumni Advisory Council. He also serves the community by serving on the Senior Bowl Committee and the Young Contractors Forum Committee.

C

oach Terry Curtis has been the Head Football Coach at UMS-Wright Preparatory School for the past fourteen years and has been the Athletic Director at UMS-Wright since 2001. He graduated from Murphy High School in 1969 where he received the C.O. Willcox Award as the Outstanding Athlete of the Year his senior year. He received a full baseball scholarship to Auburn University where he received a BS Degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation. He also holds an MA Degree in Secondary Education from South Alabama.

Coach Curtis has been coaching for forty years, twenty-four of those years as head coach at Shaw, Murphy, and now UMS-Wright. He was an assistant coach at B.C. Rain. At the conclusion of the 2012 season, his overall record was 233-73, with a playoff record of 51-16. He has won 5 State Championships at UMS-Wright and his 2001 and 2005 State Championship teams both had records of 15-0. His 2004 team was undefeated in the regular season. During his fourteen years at UMS-Wright, he has compiled a record of 155-38, with a playoff record of 44-9.

Coach Curtis was named the 2001, 2002, and 2005 Alabama Sports Writer’s Association 4A Coach of the Year, Mobile Register Coach of the Year for 2001, Optimist Club Coach of the Year for 1990, 1991, 2001, 2002, 2004, and 2005, and the 2012 ALFCA Coach of the Year. He served as President of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association Mobile County Coaches Association and is a past member of the Advisory board of Football Quarterly. He was the Head Coach in the Alabama-Mississippi All Star Classic in 1999 and the Head Coach of the South team in the North-South All-Star Game in 2005. He is a member of the A Club at Auburn University, the Mobile Touchdown Club, American Football Coaches Association, and is on the Board of Directors of the Alabama Football Coaches Association where he currently serves as Vice-President. Coach Curtis was inducted into the Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Mobile Sports Hall of Fame in 2005. He is a recipient of the John Finley Award and was awarded the Lefty Anderson Service through Coaching Award in 2005 sponsored by L’A rche Mobile. He was voted Best Coach by Mobile Bay Monthly’s annual Best of the Bay for 2006. Coach Curtis received the 2009 Coach of the Year Award from the NFHS Coaches Association and was named the WKRG News/ Southern Ford Dealers 2012 Sideline Coach of the Year. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Mobile Sports Hall of Fame and serves on the Selection Committee of the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. Coach Curtis currently serves as the District 1 representative on the AHSAA Legislative Council. Coach Curtis and his wife, Jeanie, have two sons, Brey and Casey ‘9 6, and two grandsons, Parker (5) and Griffin (3).
