Estimated Cost

2025-26 academic year: $84,164 for first-years and sophomores, which includes tuition, fees, and living expenses. There is also a mandatory annual health insurance fee and an additional $500 international student fee per semester for F & J visa holders. Only U.S. citizens and U.S. permanent resident aliens are eligible for financial aid. Scholarships for international undergraduate students are rare.

U-M is looking for students who are curious about new ideas, new people, and new experiences. Excellent grades are important, too. All first-year students must follow the same basic steps to apply to U-M. The steps differ slightly for transfer students. » admissions.umich.edu/apply/transfer-applicants

→ Transcripts (High School and any Dual Enrollment Transcripts)

→ TOEFL, IELTS, MET: English proficiency testing is required for all whom English is not their first language, some exceptions apply. » admissions.umich. edu/apply/international-applicants/ exams-visas

→ (Optional) Test Scores: Students may indicate on their application whether they would like SAT and/or ACT scores considered.

→ (Early Decision Only) Signed Agreement: The applicant, a parent or guardian, and the high school counselor must sign the Early Decision Agreement, indicating the student’s commitment to attend U-M if offered admission.

Note: First-year applicants may not apply for the spring half-term, which begins in late April/early May.
