SPRING 2026

Schol SPOTLIGHT SPOTLIGHT

My name is Sarah Rawlinson, and I am a third-year undergraduate majoring in environmental science with a concentration in chemistry, a second-year vice president of the Environmental Science Association, and a historian for the American Fisheries Society. Additionally, I am a Richard A. Henson honors student, NOAA LMRCSC fellow, NOAA Ernest F. Hollings scholar, and an emerging fellow of the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO) Emerging Fellows Pilot Program, a professional development program supporting early career researchers.

In November 2025, I was accepted into the program with a mixed cohort of undergrads, grads, postgrads, and early-career professionals, leading to my attendance of the ASLO Ocean Sciences Meeting (OSM) in Glasgow, Scotland, February 22nd - 27 , 2026. th

ASLO offered full expense coverage to travel to the meeting, and I presented a scientific poster I created last summer during an NSF REU internship at the University of Hawaii, Manoa. I also gave an elightning talk about myself to an audience, had a lot of conversations with fellow scientists, and participated in many networking events outside the conference, as well.

My time in this fellowship has allowed me to become familiar with and note the many facets of science The professionals I've met through this opportunity have each shown me how passion may be applied differently. Success has numerous meanings and may always be found as long as one truly cares enough. Attending the ASLO OSM meeting gave me the platform to communicate my science and who I am as a researcher, to meet those who are already doing the things I aspire to, and to lastly never forget that, no matter the circumstances I am provided with, I must remember my purpose and goals as someone who wants to give back to the world
