“Biofuel Feedstocks: Physiological Pathways and Microbial Contributions to Stress Resistance.” As part of a large university and national lab consortium, UMES has been producing poplar and switchgrass biomass on marginal soils as feedstocks for future energy production. We are evaluating genetic variation in stress resistance and assessing how soil microbial communities may increase stress resistance along with feedstock persistence and productivity.
