DIVISION of ACADEMIC AFFAIRS SchoolofGraduateStudies Call for Abstracts Universityof Maryland Eastern Shore Eleventh Annual Graduate Education Week Sixteenth Annual Research Symposium Student Services Center (SSC) April 15th, 2027 8:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. The School of Graduate Studies at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore is pleased to announce its eleventh annual Graduate Education Week and 16th Annual Research Symposium to be held on Thursday, April 15th, 2027. The theme of this year’s symposium is: Research as Storytelling in Action The theme of this year’s research symposiumseeks to explore the ways in which our research is storytelling in action. It involves self-examination, aninvestigation of sorts into the personal motivations driving our research. This year’s theme also invites us to refinethestorying of our research, to better how we communicate our research to stakeholders. As researchers, wesee ourselves as participants in stories that shape society, both on a local and individualized level and globally.Engaging in research is identity work and solution-oriented—it asks us to apply our subject-matter expertiseanddraw upon our prior experiences as we craft our research design and make interpretive, analytical decisions.Though we strive to practice objectivity while researching and writing about our research, we acknowledgethatweare inextricably a part of it—we are characters in the story of the research and as such, we have agencytoinfluence the larger stories that are enacted in society. This year’s call for abstracts asks youtoconsider your role as researcher. What motivates you to conduct research? How can you articulate thesignificance of your research to stakeholders who may have a broader sphere of influence? Therefore, thisyear’sprimary thematic question is: How can I better communicate the story of my research to advance society? We invite researchers from all disciplinestoshare and celebrate their work at the 2027 research symposium. Research topics are not limited to the conference theme. We look forward to your participation. Submit your abstract by December 11th, 2026. Register for the symposium by March 12, 2027: Registration | Annual Graduate Research Symposium Need assistance?
