XanderLaComb,acitizenofthePenobscotNationfromNorway,Maine,ispresidentofStudent Health Initiative Education & Leadership (SHIELD) and the 100% Society and serves on the boardsfortheMachiasAudubonChapterandtheTabletopGamingClub.Heisamemberofthe KinapMentorshipProgram’srstcohort,participatedintheResidenceHallAssociation,andisa student senator, a DJ at WUMM, and a touch tank technician. In addition to his clubs and commitments, LaComb helped overhaul UMaine Machias’s Science Bridge Program to incorporateIndigenousknowledge.HeplanstoworkattheMaineStateAquariumthissummer, thenlethisexperiencescarryhimtohisnextopportunity.

GOWN - Three types of black gowns are distinguished in the academic procession. The baccalaureategownshavelong,pointedsleeves.Themastersgownshaveoblongsleeveswithanarc cutawryinthefront.Thedoctorategownsarefacedwithvelvetandhavebell-shapedsleeveswith threebarsofvelvet.

HOOD- Thehoodisthesymbolofacademicachievement themeansbywhichthedegreeand awarding college areeasilyrecognized.Thesizeandshapeofthehooddistinguishesthedegree, withdoctoratebeingthelargest,followedbymastersandbaccalaureate.Theshellorbaseislined withsatin,correspondingtotheacademiccolorsoftheschoolthatawardedthedegree,andthe lining colors are arranged in accordance with the specications of the person ’ s college or university.Avelvetborderintheappropriatecolorisprovidedonthehood,designatingthedegree awardedintheperson’sareaofstudy.
