Our designs are flat-packed to optimize global logistics and make our designs more accessible and affordable. Sustainability efforts

We acknowledge that selling furniture and lighting can never be 100% sustainable, but we want to make an extra effort for the environment. We are dedicated to being sensible frontrunners on environmental responsibility and if we provide timeless, lasting, and functional quality designs, we know nature will prevail, as will UMAGE. We are constantly improving our designs and trying to do even better for the environment, with new sustainable materials, greater functionality and by making our flat-packed products even smaller, to care for you and the planet.

Reforestation

UMAGE collaborates with the NGO One Tree Planted, so every time a design made from wood is sold, we plant a tree. Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink and provide habitat to over 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. Forests provide jobs to over 1.6 billion people, absorb harmful carbon from the atmosphere, and are key ingredients in 25% of all medicines. In 2024 UMAGE planted 21.218 trees.

UMAGE is proud to be an official FSC-certified company. The certification ensures responsibly sourced wood, protecting biodiversity and supporting workers and local communities. While some products are already FSC-certified, we will continue expanding FSC-certified wood across our collections – aligning with our design philosophy to craft each piece with respect for nature and craftsmanship. 100% recycled textiles

The Horizons textiles from UMAGE are recycled from plastic waste and reused for a new purpose in the design of comfortable chairs and cute cabinets. The textiles are certified with Global Recycled Standard and STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®

Hope leather

The tannage of the Hope leather is chrome-free, ensuring a process with minimal harm to both you and the planet. By eliminating harmful chemicals, we not only reduce environmental impact but also offer a safer, more sustainable leather option. Chrome-free leather production means less pollution, cleaner waste streams, and improved biodegradability. The Hope leather is certified with Global Recycled Standard and LEATHER STANDARD by OEKO-TEX®

Multifunctional and flexible

Why have a table lamp or a side table and not include a USB or wireless charger as well? Why not make room for storage where the space is

vacant anyway? One of the key aspects of the furniture and lighting designs at UMAGE is multiple functions and flexibility. Designing with versatility in mind supports a sustainable approach, reducing the need for multiple products to create a cohesive space.

Compact packaging

We have replaced all foam and plastic in our packaging with eco-friendly materials to minimise plastic waste when purchasing an UMAGE design. So, our designs are not only flat-packed to optimise the global logistics and the environmental footprint, but we also make sure that you don’t need to throw away tons of packaging material and that the packaging you’re left with can be recycled and used for something new.

Replaceable and recyclable

Creating long-lasting designs is an essential part of the UMAGE brand. To extend the life of the design, most parts of the furniture and lamps at UMAGE are replaceable. If a part breaks or gets worn out, you don’t have to go out and replace a complete piece of furniture or lamp – you can simply replace the single parts. When your UMAGE design has lived a full life, it can be separated into key elements for recycling.

Interchangeable elements

As time changes, the designs can change accordingly. Two years have passed, and suddenly you want another colour on your lounge chair, then simply interchange upholstery in a few minutes. Same thing with our dining chairs, cabinets, and other responsible designs. This means you can add new life to the design and your interior without buying an entirely new furniture piece, saving the world’s resources.

Nordic Swan Ecolabel

The Dunes collection from Sørensen Leather is a part of our permanent leather collection for the UMAGE lounge chairs and ottomans. The Dunes collection is labelled with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel: A highly respected certification verifying that it meets their rigorous requirements regarding the environment, energy use and resources.

Responsible Down Standard

At UMAGE, we ensure that all goose feathers used for our Eos feather lamp collection are 100% sustainably sourced from farmland to end-consumer. All feathers are licensed with an RDS certification, ensuring the well-being of animals in our production.

The Clava collection consists of two pendant lampshades; Clava and Clava Dine.

The Clava lampshade and the Clava Dine lampshade are made from aluminium with small symmetric holes that supply a mesmerising look to the surroundings. The perforated holes and graceful, curved silhouettes add an exclusive and elegant touch to the design while being a nostalgic retro reference to the 70s.

Where Clava is a smaller lamp suitable to hang in clusters in corners of the home or above the kitchen counter, Clava Dine is bigger and perfect for hanging above the dining or coffee table.

Curious is a stackable chair with a light, minimalistic and elegant expression. Made from oak veneer, Curious is available with brass and black legs with the option of a seat cushion to enhance comfort. The seat cushion is available in 17 bespoke colours of the new 100% recycled Horizons fabric and in brown or white of the Teddy Bear fabric.

The French-Italian designer behind Curious, Luigi Vittorio Cittadini, has a background from Politecnico di Milano and several years of work for design studios in Milan. This translates to all aspects of his designs and results in designs with an ironic edge, a poetic contrast and a touch of Italian design tradition.

The Curious chair is designed to suit countless settings and purposes and will look great in the home, hospitality venues, and offices. Have them as a part of a dining setup in the kitchen, use them in restaurants or small coffee shops or let them elevate your dining room setting.

Time Flies is a collection of chairs with an artistic outline. The upholstered chairs are customisable and provide the flexibility of changing the upholstery yourself so that you can change the visual style without having to buy a new chair, securing a sustainable life for the design.

The chairs are designed with a top rail that eases into armrests, securing a soft and steady back support from all angles and leaving space for your legs underneath the armrests as you turn your body during the evening.

The Horizons fabric for the Time Flies chair is made from recycled plastic waste and is certified with Global Recycled Standard and Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX, ensuring that it meets strict social and environmental requirements. Additionally, the certifications ensure that no substances harmful to health or the environment are being used and that the identity of the recycled material is maintained: From the recycler to the final product.

The 17 colours of the Horizons fabrics are inspired by and reflect the many beautiful nuances in the world and the nature surrounding us. The carefully selected colour palette consists of everything from calm and Nordic nuances to bold and vivid colours. Time Flies is also available in our Teddy bear fabric collection. The soft fabric will fill your home with tranquillity and make the perfect setting for relaxation. The Reader collection

Our The Reader collection is perfect for your body to sink into and relax. Traditional Danish crafting techniques inspire the chair’s unique curved shell that helps reduce surrounding noise, offering a place of shelter and reflection. Lounge Around is a multifunctional, flexible sofa collection designed to be the centrepiece of your living room. After a busy day, it’s the perfect place to lie back, relax and recharge. Its slim size and the multifunctionality of the design make it perfect for countless rooms – large as well as small.

Clean lines, an unfussy design and high-quality materials give the Lounge Around collection a light Nordic expression. The collection consists of three different sofas: a 3-seater, a 1.5-seater, a daybed, and a pouffe that doubles as a chaise longue and a coffee table.

With pillows, backrests and cushions that can change positions, the Lounge Around sofas are entirely customisable and flexible and can be adjusted to fit all settings or situations, making them ideal for all living rooms, bedrooms, and guest rooms – large as well as small. The narrow seat cushion of the sofas has a thin tray on the reverse side, allowing you to set aside your coffee or laptop.

The Treasures collection combines a Nordic expression with thoughtful functionality, offering versatile storage solutions for various spaces in the home. The collection includes cabinets in two sizes as well as a spacious dresser, each featuring distinctive curved sides that add a soft, tactile touch to the design. Each design of the Treasures collection is available in oak, dark oak, and black oak finishes with interchangeable doors in Venetian cane or various textiles like our 100% recycled Horizons textile, allowing the design to adapt to personal style.

The Treasures cabinets have sides that open as wings, providing storage for items such as fine liqueur or books. Each of the central storage compartments has one adjustable shelf, making the cabinets ideal for displaying ceramics and porcelain.

Echoing the same curved side panels and soft aesthetic, the Treasures dresser mirrors the cabinets’ thoughtful design. It offers side doors that provide storage for jewellery, knickknacks, glasses, bottles, or other small items, while seamlessly integrating three spacious drawers to keep treasured knitwear, table settings, or office documents neatly organised.

Kvadrat’s first textile ‘Hallingdal’ has become the archetype of woollen textiles. The very durable upholstery fabric was originally designed in 1965 by Nanna Ditzel, and is now available in a version with an updated colour scale: Hallingdal 65. The viscose used in their construction gives them a distinctive shimmer, which deepens according to the light and the perspective of the viewer. Pine is flat-woven and has a subtle striated look. Maple is woven with a chenille yarn and has a soft pile that reveals the structure of the weave. Foreign fibres and small clusters of colour may appear on the fabric's surface adding to their slightly irregular, casual expression.

The twenty-two colourways are either one- or two-tone combinations inspired by Vincent van Duysen’s own home and range from cool cement and soft blue to oily green, curry yellow and the shades of natural wood.

Remix 3 is an elegant upholstery textile distinguished by exceptional depth of colour, designed by Giulio Ridolfo. It comes in 23 new hues, adding to an already expansive palette which now offers a total of 72 sophisticated colourways. Remix 3 looks unicoloured from a distance but reveals subtle details and colour contrasts when viewed close-up. The textile features a tight, minimalistic weave, and derives its lively colour play from a combination of two different mélange yarns, which each combine up to three hues. The new colours – carefully selected from 2600 samples– are inspired by an extensive study of traditional Indigo dyeing undertaken by Giulio Ridolfo on his travels. Centred around deep combinations of blues and rich natural reds, they also include subtly coloured neutrals.

Steelcut Trio is a hardwearing woollen upholstery textile with the same construction as Steelcut. Originally designed by Frans Dijkmeijer, it comes in updated colourways crafted by Giulio Ridolfo. The three-dimensional surface of Steelcut Trio resembles small pyramids or steel points. Despite the complexity of the textile’s innovative weave, it has a simple, precise expression. Steelcut Trio is yarn-dyed and made from 3 differently coloured yarns.

The DUNES collection has received the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. A highly-respected certification verifying that it meets their rigorous requirements regarding the environment, use of energy and resources. A special process involving sanding, buffing and applying a special type of leather oil to the surface gives it that almost velvety touch. At the same time, DUNES boasts a matt look that’s raw with a touch of understated elegance. Part of DUNES’ extra appeal are the subtle, natural markings which bring a unique personality to each hide. The five colours we feature will also vary from hide to hide and with each individual hide. Watch for a delicious patina that will appear over time as a result of the leather’s exposure to daylight, interior lighting and usage. In fact, the more you use DUNES, the more the leather becomes shinier and smoother.
