The programme is ideal for students wishing to launch their own business, expand upon a family business or focus on small to medium-sized enterprises ÌÌ Pathway in Human Resource Management This programme develops comprehensive knowledge and skills across a wide range of managerial leadership areas in an international context, including strategic human resource development, reward management and industrial relations ÌÌ Pathway in International Business Practitioners in this field need the theoretical and practical tools to judge the financial, commercial, political, economic and social factors affecting cross-border decisions. This pathway offers a comprehensive overview of the many different frameworks that managers will encounter in the course of their international working lives ÌÌ Pathway in International Marketing This programme deals with the complex issues facing marketing managers in the 21st century. The course offers the techniques for a mastery of effective marketing, together with insight into the international business environment

MBA International Business The MBA International Business has been designed to make graduates eminently employable in almost any industry. With a focus on three key themes: strategy, ethics and internationalism, the programme covers all aspects of conducting business globally. The course is highly practical as well as academic, providing graduates with both the necessary tools and theoretical underpinning for success in any business situation. A key feature of the programme is the period spent studying abroad at one of our partner institutions across the world.

MSc Global Banking & Finance The MSc Global Banking & Finance offers rigorous academic and practical training, preparing graduates for work in multicultural, globalised financial and banking organisations. It is ideal for students interested in a career in investment banking, corporate finance or the financial services industry in general. The course is open to applicants who have a business, financial or mathematical academic background.

NEW IN 2014 MSc Oil & Gas Trade Management* This is a specialist programme that explores oil and gas trade management from the perspectives of both buyer and seller. The programme has three key themes: risk management, leadership and strategy and focuses on the downstream side of oil and gas markets and the management of commodity trading. You will evaluate the economic and political factors influencing the global oil and gas industry, analyse the structure of the commodities markets and gain an understanding of price formation and risk management. You will also gain knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework of physical trade and shipping and be able to address ethical and corporate social responsibility issues prevalent within the energy industry. INTRODUCING THE FACULTY Azam Ali Programme Director, MA Management with pathways Azam Ali combines an academic career with managing family businesses in the telecommunications and internet start-up industry.

He also has over 20 years’ experience of running private residential homes for people with learning disabilities. His own managerial and leadership skills have developed in response to rapid external challenges in the health, education and telecommunications sectors. Azam is also an accredited international and certified (ILM) coach.

Asif Ali-Khan Programme Director, MBA International Business Asif Ali-Khan has a varied commercial and industry background, including local government, insurance and telecommunications. He has been a consultant to the Agricultural Bank of China, the Agricultural Development Bank of China and the Park Royal Partnership, London. Asif is a trained facilitator.

He specialises in teaching human resources management, organisational behaviour and strategic management.

Dr Michael Gavridis Programme Director, MSc Global Banking & Finance Michael Gavridis has a varied background in finance and banking. He has worked for banks in the City of London and New York in a variety of roles, including quantitative analyst, researcher and trader. He has also trained as an integrative psychotherapist and is UKCP-registered. Michael lectures on finance, has participated in financial research in the UK and abroad, and published articles on financial, economic and psychotherapy subjects.

Tim Jackson Programme Director, MA Luxury Brands Tim Jackson was previously at London College of Fashion. His industry experience is extensive, as a buyer for UK brands such as Jaeger and Harrods, and as a consultant on luxury brand management to clients including Proctor & Gamble, Goldman Sachs and Tommy Hilfiger. Tim writes for www.wgsn.com and www.stylus.com and comments on fashion and luxury business issues for global broadcast media, including the BBC. He is the author of several books on buying and fashion marketing and is currently writing Creative Thinking in Fashion and Art for Routledge.

Dr Mitra Arami Lecturer, Operations and Services Management Mitra Arami is an interim management professional, with over 20 years’ international experience of business development across multiple industry sectors. She is qualified in teaching, coaching and project management. Her interests lie in transformation initiatives and the integration of technology, cultural and business processes to provide profitable solutions.

Dr Elias L Boukrami Acting Programme Leader, MSc Oil & Gas Trade Management Elias Boukrami is a senior lecturer in banking and finance. He was previously at the University of Salford and Manchester Metropolitan University. He is a visiting lecturer and external adviser in risk management and investment analysis to various international academic and financial institutions. Elias is a chartered and certified accountant and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. His research interests include assets pricing, energy commodity markets and alternative banking.

Richard Cawley Principal Lecturer, International Marketing Richard Cawley has substantial commercial experience in advising on import/export matters, trading commodities, purchasing and processing. His varied consultancy work includes products such as computer software (simulations), vehicle climate systems and electrical appliances. He has specialist knowledge of financing, cross-border negotiation, business start-ups and new ventures.

Darren Cullen Lecturer in Finance Darren Cullen is a global economist and bond market strategist. Over the past 20 years he has been a practitioner and adviser for a top-tier US investment bank, investment management and hedge fund firms. He has lived in London, Boston and Bermuda.

Tim DeStefano Lecturer, Business and Management Tim DeStefano teaches global political economy, politics and international trade, globalisation, research skills and business communication. He has worked on exports in the USA and taught English and studied in various regions of Japan (Osaka, Akita, Chiba).

John Diamondopoulos Senior Lecturer in Finance John Diamondopoulos has a background in entrepreneurial and international business and consulting. As a financial consultant he advised businesses and wealthy individuals on retirement planning, investments, insurance and asset protection strategies. His entrepreneurial experience is extensive, with start-up ventures including an auto-financing firm, restaurant franchising, SME consulting company and an import/export direct marketing firm.

Dr Olena Etokova Senior Lecturer in Finance Olena Etokova has an academic background in business management and economics. She was previously a senior lecturer at Wisconsin International University (USA), Ukraine.

Olena’s business background includes work as a senior associate at Deloitte and economic adviser to the United Nations Development programme in Kyiv and New York.

Phil Fontbin Lecturer, Financial and Managerial Accounting Phil Fontbin is a multi-disciplinary financial, accounting and business training professional. He has extensive practical experience with major professional practices such as Deloitte and PWC. Phil also has significant experience as a curriculum designer and subject matter exper t with private sector professional training organisations such as BPP and Kaplan Higher Education.

Edward Gonsalves MA Management Pathway Leader, Entrepreneurial Management Edward specialises in the design, development and delivery of senior executive programmes for high-performance teams in entrepreneurial and large firms. He holds a number of directorships and advises, consults and publishes in the area of strategic and entrepreneurial learning. He is currently working in the area of corporate play and decision making in uncertain and ambiguous settings.

Dr Anabel Gutierrez Lecturer, Information Systems and Research Methods Anabel Gutierrez studied for an MSc in Information Management in Mexico City and has a PhD in Information Systems. She was a programme director at the Tecnologico de Monterrey in Mexico City and currently undertakes consultancy on IT projects and executive training. Anabel leads on the MBA module in Information and E-Business Systems.

John Harrison Head of Department, Marketing and Strategy John Harrison has worked as a consultant to the international hotel industry, and held academic posts in Switzerland and Madrid. He has been instrumental in designing several programmes for the Faculty of Business & Management since joining the College in 2006. In addition to his departmental responsibilities, John leads on the MA Management module in International Services Marketing.

Dr Andrey Jichev Lecturer in Cross-Cultural Management Andrey Jichev spent 20 years in the Bulgarian diplomatic service, including postings in Finland and the UK. He was a member of the team that prepared Bulgaria’s negotiations for accession to the EU and has represented his country in numerous international forums. His research interests include international relations and European integration. Andrey lectures on language and culture in business on the MBA. Robert Johnson Lecturer, Languages and Cross-Cultural Studies Robert Johnson has one foot in academia, specialising in intercultural communication and cross-cultural management, and one foot in the business world, working as a cultural awareness trainer and consultant. He has extensive experience of living and working in France, Germany, Japan and China, and speaks French, German and Japanese.

Gabriella Kereszturi Lecturer in Marketing Research Methods Gabriella Kereszturi has lectured in retail and channel management, marketing management, principles of marketing and political marketing in different education systems. She was marketing and sales manager for a construction company and worked in online marketing for a leading online translations company.

Dr Rajiv Maluste Lecturer in Economics Rajiv Maluste holds American master’s degrees in business administration and public policy and completed his PhD at the London School of Economics. He has a professional background as a chartered accountant.

Richard Mannix Senior Lecturer in Marketing Richard Mannix has taught marketing and business communication skills at institutions in Japan and Sweden.

He lectures on marketing in diverse environments for the MBA. Richard is a member of the Academy of Marketing and the Chartered Institute of Marketing, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Dr Windfred Mfuh Lecturer in Marketing and Strategy Windred Mfuh holds a doctorate in strategic management and postgraduate qualifications in telecommunications. He is a consultant on regulatory and telecoms engineering to many telecommunication organisations globally, and has held senior academic posts in Cameroon.

Josef Mueller Head, Department of Languages and Cross-Cultural Studies Josef Mueller has developed the subject area of cross-cultural studies at EBSL and teaches intercultural communication and cross-cultural management. He has considerable experience in academic management in various roles and a research interest in intercultural education, teaching and learning.

Dr Nermeen Mustafa Senior Lecturer in Marketing Nermeen Mustafa leads a range of marketing and businessrelated topics at EBSL. She is an honorary research fellow at Cass Business School, City University. Nermeen advises the luxury goods industry on marketing communications. Her research interests include corporate identity and reputation management, and she is currently examining the UK banking sector, particularly in light of the recent economic challenges.

Dr Michael Nieto Acting Head, Department of Management and HRM Michael Nieto is a Fellow of the CMI and CIPD. He has a business background in international consultancy and management. His research area is leadership, and his publications include two business text books, with a third to be published in 2013. Michael was previously a senior team member and MBA director at other higher education institutions, including the University of Surrey Roehampton, Bournemouth University and Marymount University, USA. He is the chief external examiner and mentor to new externals with postgraduate programmes at Kingston University, and the chief external examiner to the European School of Economics on behalf of Buckingham University.

Dr Michael Oyelere Lecturer, Human Resources and Management Michael Oyelere has an academic background in human resources management, organisational behaviour and research methods in business and management.

Dr Ahmad Seyf Senior Lecturer in Global/International Business Ahmad Seyf has nearly 30 years of teaching and research experience at UK institutions of higher education. He has an academic background in economics and management.

Ahmad lectures on contemporary issues in international business on the MA Management with pathways.

Professor Ibrahim Sirkeci MA Management Pathway Leader, International Marketing Ibrahim Sirkeci is Professor of Transnational Studies and Marketing and Director of the Regent’s Centre for Transnational Studies. As a research professor he studies the relationships between mobility, conflict, marketing strategy, segmentation and demographic change. Along with several books drawing on research conducted in the UK, Germany, Turkey and Iraq, Ibrahim has written consumer lifestyle reports for Euromonitor. His forthcoming book is titled Transnational marketing for transnational consumers in the 21st Century.

He serves on various national and international academic committees and is a reviewer and editor for funding bodies, journals and publishers.

Cllr Alan Sitkin MA Management Pathway Leader, International Business Alan Sitkin was a global capital market specialist in Paris, Zurich and London. He has written textbooks on international business, and ecology and management. His current research focus is on the links between foreign direct investment, state activism and the green economy. He is a councillor for the London borough of Enfield, where he chairs the sustainability scrutiny panel.

Birgit Wildt Senior Lecturer in Management Birgit Wildt worked for over a decade as a classical dancer, actress and singer in Austria and Germany before pursuing an academic career in management and business studies.

She leads on Aesthetic Enterprise for the MA Management with pathways and has developed a strong interface between arts and management, working with directors, musicians, designers, producers, dramatists and broadcasters.

Dr Motasam Tatahi Principal Lecturer in Economics and Finance Motasam Tatahi’s areas of expertise include the problems of economic adjustment, particularly privatisation in major European countries. His teaching features comparative economic systems, macroeconomics, econometrics, data analysis and quantitative methods for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Dr Judy Willets Lecturer in Global/International Business Judy Willetts has over 14 years’ experience of teaching international business, entrepreneurship and strategy in the UK and USA. She has done consultancy work for the World Bank and Adam Smith Institute, and continues to be involved in the activities of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. She is a contributing editor to the Journal of International Trade Research.

Dr Dimitris Tsouknidis Lecturer in Finance Dimitris Tsouknidis is course leader of the bank risk management module for the MSc Global Banking & Finance. His research interests lie in asset pricing and credit risk in financial and shipping markets. He is a consultant to financial institutions on credit risk control and Basel II implementation issues.

Majeks Walker Lecturer in Law As a barrister, Majeks Walker represented international companies in UK litigation. At EBSL he teaches business law and international business law at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. He is also a visiting lecturer at a number of law schools in the UK. Dr Robert Wallsten Senior Lecturer in Finance Robert Wallsten has extensive research experience in applied and financial mathematics. He has worked in the technology industry for companies such as IBM and Ericsson. He also has experience of financial services and multi-disciplinary research.

MA LUXURY BRAND MANAGEMENT The luxury industry has doubled in size over the past ten years, reflecting an increasingly global presence.

Traditionally a sector associated with Europe, luxury brands are expanding into the markets of the fast-developing BRIC economies. This programme has been designed to equip you with the knowledge, confidence and skills to pursue management roles in international luxury brand management, marketing, communications and retailing.

The MA Luxury Brand Management takes a strategic view of the dynamic characteristics and opportunities within the global luxury goods industry.

The programme delivers a blend of academic learning combined with industry insights provided by a network of regular guest speakers. Speakers typically come from luxury brands and related businesses such as wealth management and real estate.

Through taught classes, projects and contact with industry experts you will develop the knowledge, insights and critical skills to make informed judgements about the strategic and tactical business activities of luxury brands.

The programme is kept current and contemporary by the research, business practice and networks of academic staff, who incorporate the latest industry thinking into programme teaching and learning. Course content is also informed by the annual Financial Times and International Herald Tribune summits on luxury.

You will be able to apply the knowledge and skills you develop on the programme through a final project which is either an academic dissertation or a live consultancy project for a client luxury brand. In both cases you will be able to develop a network of industry contacts that will be invaluable in your future career.

Programme Outline This is a full-time programme, covering three semesters. The programme is composed of modules, each of which carries a specific credit value. You will take eight core modules, plus two further modules of your choice.

Fees are updated each academic year and will be subject to a 4% or inflationary linked increase. Fees are also reviewed from time to time and may change from those listed.

Regent’s College charges fees on a modular basis, in line with the published annual fee. Students will be charged the annual fee as noted above. Any additional modules taken by a student after this period will be charged at the rate applicable at the time of taking the additional modules. Tuition fees must be paid at least one week before the start date of the programme. Fees are invoiced in full at the beginning of the course and are payable by semester. Any additional invoices will be issued by semester.

You may not enrol and start classes until full payment of your first semester’s fees has been received. Tuition and services may be withdrawn in the case of non-payment.

How to pay Payment may be made by cheque, bank transfer, debit or credit card, online or in person. All fees for tuition, registration and alumni services must be made payable to Regent’s College. Cheques should be in pounds sterling. An amount of GBP £15.00 to cover bank charges should be added to the invoice total where payment is made by sterling cheques from a non-UK bank.

If you wish to pay in person, the Finance Office is open Monday to Friday, 09:00-17:00. If you wish to pay by credit card, please note that a 2% surcharge will be added to the cost of tuition fees. Once you have officially withdrawn from the School, you may be able to claim a refund of tuition fees if you withdrew within the first four weeks of the semester. Requests for refunds of tuition fees must be made in writing within two weeks of your official withdrawal date.

The Student Centre The Student Centre provides all kinds of non-academic information and assistance, to help you make the most of being a student in London. It offers many different opportunities to relax, socialise, be creative and exercise.

The Student Common Room, part of the Student Centre, is furnished with sofas, PCs and a large flat-screen TV, as well as wireless internet access. Come here to chill out and meet your friends between classes and in the evenings.

The music room, equipped with guitars, a drum kit and keyboards, as well as PA system, microphones and amplifiers, provides an ideal environment for your creative talents. Please note that amplified music and drums may be played only after close of official college business. The piano room, however, can be used during the day.

Sport and fitness Our well-equipped gym provides the ideal surroundings for keep-fit enthusiasts. We offer 22 stations, including 14 cardio-vascular machines (equipped with cardio theatre), seven resistance machines and a free-weights section, as well as changing and shower facilities.

We offer a varied programme of evening fitness classes, including yoga, pilates, zumba, body pump and street dance.

Surrounding the campus are tennis and basketball courts, and a five-a-side football pitch. Our sports teams include football, rugby, basketball, netball and polo teams. You can also play tennis and table tennis on campus.

Regent’s College Student Union The aim of the Regent’s College Student Union is to enrich student life by creating a social environment on campus, where you can network, interact and make the most of your student years.

The Student Union supports a number of clubs and welcomes the creation of new societies and clubs on campus. The Student Union also organises several campus-wide social events each semester, including barbecues, parties and networking events. As a new student you are encouraged to join the Student Union and get involved.

Health care All students are entitled to free healthcare under the UK National Health Service, and to free accident and emergency hospital care while in the UK (six months or more). However, to gain your entitlement it is vital that you register with a local NHS doctor. The Student Centre can assist you with this process.

Student support and personal counselling In addition to the academic support provided by your tutor, you will also have access to one-to-one confidential counselling offered by the on-campus Student Services.

We know how important it is to secure comfortable, affordable and conveniently located housing. We offer you personal support in finding accommodation in London, both on and off campus.

Reid Hall Housing 220 students, Reid Hall looks out over the lake and park surrounding the campus. A college representative is on duty at the front desk 24 hours a day and a member of the Student Services team also lives in the Hall. Residents have swipe card access to the building and a key to their individual room.

Rooms are available as singles, twins or triples. Single-sex bathrooms are located on the corridors of each floor, as well as a small kitchen area with kettle, sink and microwave.

Oliver Hall Oliver Hall houses 24 students in twin rooms similar to those in Reid Hall. Four of the rooms have their own bathrooms, while the others share showers located along the corridors. Residents have swipe card access to the building, plus a key to their room.

Oliver Flats Oliver Flats comprise four rooms, located in a corner of the campus separate from Reid and Oliver Halls. Three of the rooms are singles and one is a twin room. They all have their own bathrooms and internet access. Residents have full use of Reid Hall and its facilities.

LEARNING RESOURCES The Tate Library offers dedicated spaces for laptop use and group work, as well as a silent study area for independent learning. The Group Study Room in the Library may be booked for collaborative activities, such as the preparation of presentations or screening of audio-visual materials.

Open-access computer rooms may be used for online and database training. You can borrow a laptop from the Library, which is fully Wi-Fi enabled.

We offer a wide range of learning resources to support your learning and research activities, both on and off campus. This includes our well-stocked library, an online virtual learning environment (VLE) and a media services department.

The Tate Library The Tate Library contains 40,000 books in its main collection.

We subscribe to over 200 journals, many of which are also available in electronic format. The library also holds a wide range of DVDs, international newspapers and periodicals.

In addition to books, journals and audio-visual materials, the library provides access to databases and electronic journals.

The Library team liaises closely with academic staff to ensure that the resources available support and enhance current academic programmes.

All students are offered a Library induction, and information retrieval and search skills classes are available for research suppor t. Following induction, you are encouraged to request additional sessions with the academic liaison librarians, for individual or small-group information retrieval training. The academic liaison librarian for your programme can offer one-to-one suppor t and help with specific enquiries.

Online learning Blackboard is the College’s VLE, which gives you access to course materials and other information provided by your tutors. Every course module has an area within Blackboard.

You can also submit work remotely and receive feedback from your tutors via Blackboard.

Media Services The Media Services department offers a variety of equipment for loan, including camera kits (ranging from simple flip cameras and digital SLRs to professional HD cameras) and location filming kits (including lighting and sound recording and laptops for editing). There is a professional HD-standard TV studio and control room, as well as a mobile TV studio which can be booked. In addition, Apple Mac edit suites with the latest Final Cut Pro Studio and Adobe Master Collection software are available. Classrooms are equipped with multimedia presentation systems and are connected to the internet and computer network.

Information Technology Centre The Information Technology Centre contains around 200 networked PCs, running Microsoft Office and providing internet access and other networked resources. Of these, 50 PCs are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Staff members are available to provide support.

Postgraduate Centre The Postgraduate Centre in Jebb Basement contains additional computer space, a reprographics area and an informal seating area. A member of the Library Team is time-tabled to provide an additional enquiry point in this area.

INTERNEXUS ENGLISH LANGUAGE SCHOOL Regent’s College London has it own English language school on campus, which offers language classes and support to students throughout the academic year. This is available for all students, but primarily for those who need help with academic writing and reading texts.

Pre-college courses / Pre-sessional English course If you need to improve your English skills in order to study at Regent’s College, we offer pre-sessional English courses that you can take before you start your studies – for example, over the summer months.

We use the Cambridge International English Language Testing System (IELTS). This gives us an excellent success rate in providing you with the English language skills you need for higher education study in the UK. The Cambridge IELTS exam course combines general English with the specific language skills needed for academic study.

This can be taken as an eight-week intensive course or as a 12-week intensive course, depending on your level. You will have 27 hours of classes per week. The course focuses on: ÌÌ Writing essays ÌÌ Understanding academic texts ÌÌ Improving vocabulary ÌÌ Exam techniques ÌÌ Listening skills for lectures ÌÌ Discussing, debating and presenting

Business English courses We also offer a programme of short business courses, available during the summer. These two-week courses are aimed at students who have not previously studied business. Each course combines morning classes of Business English with afternoon lectures introducing business subjects. You will have 25 hours of classes per week. EVENING LANGUAGE CLASSES All students can benefit from part-time, evening foreign language classes taught by highly skilled professionals experienced in teaching both general and business language courses. Courses are available for those starting a new foreign language or improving a language already studied.

We offer evening classes in the following languages: ÌÌ Arabic ÌÌ Chinese ÌÌ French ÌÌ German ÌÌ Italian ÌÌ Japanese ÌÌ Portuguese ÌÌ Russian ÌÌ Spanish Our language tutors are all native speakers, and use the latest multimedia resources and teaching methods. Group sizes are kept small, typically between six and 15 students per class. This ensures a high level of interaction between student and tutor, and contributes to an excellent learning environment.

Classes take place on campus, in the evening, allowing you to fit your foreign language study around your studies. Students benefit from a 50% discount on the full cost of a language course. We offer classes at the following levels: Beginners 1 This course is for students with no or very little knowledge of the language. After successful completion, you will have grasped the basics of how the language operates. You will also be able to have simple interactions and exchange basic personal information, including your likes and dislikes.

Beginners 2 This course is for students with some previous experience of language learning. After successful completion, you will be able to engage in simple conversation on frequent and familiar topics, exchanging information about yourself and your routine, your interests and plans, travel and shopping.

Elementary This course is for students who have a good knowledge of the basics of the language. By the end, you will be able to communicate with increased fluency and accuracy, talk about past experiences and future events, make suggestions and requests, and operate successfully in personal, social and some routine professional situations.

Intermediate This course is for students who have studied the language before and have a good knowledge, being able to communicate about standard situations, including talking about past events and the future. By the end of the course you will be able to communicate with greater fluency and accuracy with native speakers on frequent topics and in routine situations in personal, social and business contexts.

Proficient Students who join this course will have a very good command of the language and its grammatical structures as well as the ability to adapt their language to a wide range of settings.

By the end, you will be able to use the language confidently, communicate with native speakers, engage in debates, use more sophisticated structures, and read and understand authentic written and aural texts.

COURSE MODULES MA LUXURY BRAND MANAGEMENT Advanced Management Accounting for Decision Makers Management accounting is about providing managers with the financial information they need to make decisions. Unlike financial reports, which are available to various stakeholders, management accounting information is usually confidential and accessible only to a selected few. To succeed in this course, you will need prior knowledge of statistics/arithmetic, elementary accounting, introductory business strategy and economics.

Contemporary Issues in Luxury This module explores issues such as the environment, sustainability, aspiration and the effects of the media and culture.You will engage with controversial discussion points, such as child labour or the fur trade, and broader debates on topics such as gender, identity, luxury and aspiration.The module will help you to become better equipped to forecast, predict and prepare for future issues and challenges.

An understanding of such factors allows organisations to coordinate and unify their processes and activities to strengthen and maintain the quality and image of their products and services.

Developing Luxury Brands Understanding the challenges and specificities of brand management is a priority for professionals in the global luxury industry.The module examines the conceptualisation, building and management of luxury brands, exploring elements such as brand DNA, brand senses, iconography, typography, colours and experiences.You will learn to critically evaluate the effectiveness of different brand management strategies and develop solutions to real business problems.

Consultancy Project This is the final module in the programme, allowing you to apply the knowledge you have gained in a real luxury brand working environment. You will undertake a consultancy project in a sector of the luxury brand market, operating in effect as a trainee management consultant for your client. The project will involve research and evaluation of an issue related to luxury brands, leading to the preparation of an individual report and presentation to both the client and academic staff.

Dissertation In this module, you will undertake research for a dissertation on a topic related to luxury brand management with the help and guidance of a supervisor. You will be expected to demonstrate your ability to critically evaluate research and to identify and tackle complex problems.

The topic you choose may be related to your career aspirations, and will give you the opportunity to demonstrate independent thought, evaluation and the ability to solve problems creatively.

Historical and Cultural Perspectives on Luxury This module reviews the concept and perception of luxury in both historic and current contexts.You will explore the notion of luxury, its influences and historical positioning, and look at the interplay between need and desire.The idea of the luxury brand is examined, together with the creative processes communicating luxury and how a brand attains luxury status. You will develop your own conceptual framework for defining and questioning what luxury is, and the implications for brand management.

Intellectual Property Law Intellectual property is a dynamic area of law used to describe the rights that protect innovative and creative endeavour. It has a key role in luxury design and brand management, where creativity and innovation are at the forefront.This module highlights the key aspects of intellectual property rights and compares laws in the UK, the EU and internationally.You will identify the fundamental distinction between the English and European legal systems, and learn apply the relevant law to different cases.

Leading and Managing the Luxury Business This module offers a holistic view of how management and leadership work most effectively in luxury organisations. You will look at efficiency, effectiveness and organisational performance models and frameworks and evaluate various management and leadership issues. You will also learn about the fundamental management accounting tools necessary to support the decision-making process. Through an actionbased business simulation, you will learn how to develop strategies, solve business problems and make decisions.

Product Design Management Success with luxury brands demands the continual development of the product portfolio and a detailed understanding of a product system.You will look at elements such as portfolio audits, brief writing, concept development and manufacture sign off. The module also explores aspects such as supply chains, product life-cycles, brand direction and consumer behaviours. You will undertake practical work on both existing products and potential new innovations, and learn how products are developed within the constraints of ‘product families’, manufacturing technology and logistics.

COURSE MODULES Promoting Luxury Brands Marketing communications play a vital role in maintaining a brand, and are particularly important in the luxury market where products and services are sold not only on quality and value but also through their symbolic meanings. Luxury brand managers need to understand the different promotional tools to successfully communicate their brands to an increasingly more sophisticated customer. You will learn to use ‘traditional’ tools such advertising, direct marketing, public relations, personal selling, sales promotions, sponsorship and endorsement, as well as ‘new’ digital and interactive tools.

Recruiting and Training Talent This module is designed to address some of the key aspects involved in employing people, whether in a manufacturing or service-industry context. People comprise one of the largest fixed costs in any enterprise.

This module takes a line manager’s perspective on how to maximise the contribution of this very costly asset. Achieving and retaining competitive advantage is about attracting, retaining and developing employees. You will explore some basic principles of human and organisational behaviour and the key people-management responsibilities of any senior line manager or department head.

Research Methods This module introduces the discipline of conducting both primary and secondary research.You will learn about the concepts of empirical enquiry, together with project planning and time management.The module will also help you to consider what you would like to do when you finish the course and use the project as a stepping stone to fulfil this goal.You will focus on a topic of relevance and personal interest and draw up a feasible research proposal which can be adequately researched and analysed within the tight time constraints of the overall course.

Understanding the Luxury Client Consumer behaviour in relation to luxury products and services is influenced by many factors, which managers must understand in order to plan effective marketing activities. You will explore the individual psychological factors and the environmental factors that influence consumption of luxury brands. The concept of ‘relationship marketing’ is increasingly important in understanding the luxury client and ensuring their continued loyalty to the brand. You will look at marketing that aims to build trust with the consumer, thus supporting premium pricing and encouraging repeat purchases.

MA MANAGEMENT WITH PATHWAYS Advertising and Marketing Communications This module addresses a number of current ethical and regulatory issues in advertising and marketing communications. Other topics include corporate communications, branding, sales promotion, direct and interactive marketing, public relations, the communication mix and personal selling. The module links theory and practice using topical examples and case studies and draws upon a wide range of academic and industry sources. You will complete the module by developing a campaign from proposal stage to implementation.

Aesthetic Entrepreneurship This module explores the advantages of using artistic techniques in business and industry to stimulate innovation, creativity and entrepreneurial flair.

You will gain skills that can be used in all areas of business and entrepreneurship and the development of more imaginative, artistic and aesthetic products and services. Consumer Behaviour This module examines the theoretical models and frameworks of consumer behaviour and how they are implemented in specific areas, such as product and brand management, retail marketing and marketing communications.

You will learn to evaluate the various approaches to understanding consumer needs, psychology, perceptions, attitudes and learning. It will give you the ability to construct and deliver effective consumer-research projects, enabling more effective marketing decisions to be made upon the basis of sound evidence and analysis.

Continuing Professional Development Everyone has a unique background of educational, cultural and work experience, and has different expectations and skills. This module aims to help you develop the skills you need to get the most out of your postgraduate experience, and ensure that you can transfer these skills into future employment and life in general. CPD is a combination of approaches, ideas and techniques that will help you manage your own learning and growth. The focus is firmly on results and the benefits that professional development can bring in the real world.

Copywriting for International Marketeers This module offers an overview of the elements of good marketing copy. You will learn to write your own copy and to brief marketing agencies and freelance copywriters. The module will enable you to effectively critique other people’s copy and help you to get your point across clearly in any kind of written communication.

Dissertation/Business Research Project The dissertation/ business research project is a major teaching-based activity centred on your chosen pathway of study. You will research a topic relevant to your pathway and develop your ideas not only from core knowledge, but also from your own experience and existing and developing interests in the field. Your work will be guided and tutored by a member of staff. This part of the MA programme underpins all of its philosophical aims, and is the most important component, worth 50 credits.

Doing Business in China China is a key emerging market for many international companies. It is the world’s second-largest economy and still growing fast. This module offers an overview of the main characteristics of Chinese culture and business etiquette. You will develop the skills to operate confidently in a cross-cultural business environment and become aware of possible pitfalls and misinterpretations. You will take part in discussion and exercises to develop your awareness of how business operates in this particular socio-cultural environment.

Effective Group Dynamics Effective team working is essential to business. This module looks at how groups are formed and how they work, the roles of individuals within a group, and methods of analysing their behaviour. This module will support your performance in other modules, as most have elements of group work. You will also find the topic useful in terms of your own personal development and will gain knowledge, skills and techniques that you can transfer to other areas.

Emerging Economy Enterprise This module explores the entrepreneurial opportunities offered by developing and emerging economies, as well the challenges of exploiting such opportunities.You will learn how to identify the underlying principles of opportunity-centred entrepreneurship as well as understand the application of these principles in both managerial and business contexts.You will also learn to apply key global entrepreneurship measurement indicators in the recognition, exploitation and management of opportunities.

It will build your research skills and ability to identify and solve problems.

Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice This module explores the who, why, when, where, what and how of entrepreneurship.

Topics include entrepreneurship as an economic force, the entrepreneur’s purpose, time-pacing in entrepreneurship, discovering and shaping opportunity, and launch and growth.

You will look at the the major breakthroughs and controversies in the field of entrepreneurship theory and research and identify the links with the practice of entrepreneurship in developed and developing economies.

European Institutions Ways of doing business are changing significantly as companies develop new European strategies, and need to recruit, train and retain people in different forms of employment. This module looks at Europe-wide institutions and covers issues such as security, political economy, democracy, climate change, demographic developments, environmental policies, energy supply and conservation. In addition you will look at the nature of the single market within the expanding continent, and the free movement of goods, people, services and capital between participating states.

Family Business This module explores the challenges of continuity in family business and looks at the best practices in management, governance and family relations for leading family-owned businesses. The focus is on pragmatic, actionoriented management and family/business leadership skills. You will learn through live and written cases, discussions, lectures, and a study/consultation experience with a family business.

Feasibility Studies and New Business Ventures This module looks at the process of evaluating the feasibility of a new business venture. You will work in a group to examine a business idea from the concept, through opportunity screening, business-operation model building and pre-planning analysis, to the presentation of a written feasibility study to a mixed panel of investors and entrepreneurs. You will also explore a series of case studies on problems faced by most entrepreneurs, and look at the characteristics of entrepreneurs, entrepreneurial thinking and the entrepreneurial process.

Finance for the International Business This module offers a practical approach to international corporate finance from the perspective of the manager. You will learn the theory and practice of corporate finance through case studies and worked examples. The course covers the inter-relationship between investment decisions, financing and corporate value creation within the content of an international business environment.

Green and Not-for-Profit Enterprise This module uses a sustainability approach to equip you with the knowledge and tools to perform as a successful business manager while addressing the urgent challenges of poverty, malnutrition, poor medical care and other pressing socio-environmental issues.

You will explore how eco-social entrepreneurship can develop small businesses successfully, particularly in poverty-stricken areas. You will also learn how to devise cost-effective strategies to create ecological, social and economic revenue, both in the short term and for future generations.

Intercultural Competence for Managers Perceptions of good management can vary between cultures. This module explores the attributes managers need to deal effectively with cultural difference and respond to an environment where complexity and diversity are the norm. You will be encouraged to reflect on your own preferences and capabilities, and develop your skills through practical activities including role plays, simulations and team work projects.

International Business and the Ecological Imperative This module contains a macro and micro approach to environmental sustainability, which should be understood in its original definition as the kinds of practices that people and businesses can repeat for the long term without destroying the ecological balance of the planet. Greening processes can be seen as a constraint for business, since they require managers to change their way of organising corporate activities. But they are also an opportunity to benefit from on-going global transitions to new forms of economic, political and social organisation.

International Business and the Multinational Enterprise Managers of multinational enterprises (MNEs) need to be able to participate effectively in cross-border activity. This module looks at the different contexts in which international operations occur, and offers a realistic perception of such international contexts.You will acquire relevant business knowledge that will prepare you to function effectively within MNEs.

International Business Economics This module explores macro and micro-economic variables, enhancing your ability to critically analyse the economic context within which international business initiatives take place. The module also focuses on the political aspects of economic decision making and discusses the extent to which economic processes are endogenous or embedded in more of a cognitive framework.

International Ethics This module will help you to think critically about ethical issues as they arise in a business context. You will learn the basic techniques of ethical analysis, utilitarianism and rights-based theory and how to apply each of these tools in a variety of ethical dilemmas. You will look at cases from the perspective of various stakeholders, including shareholders, employees and consumers, and examine the theories and concepts associated with each of these groups.

International Human Resource Management The progressive globalisation of business is forcing managers to grapple with complex issues as they seek to gain or sustain competitive advantage. You will learn to understand and apply international human resource practices, as well as recognising the significant macro and cultural environments in which international organisations operate. You will also critically evaluate these practices in growing economies such as China and the Pacific Rim, as well as Europe in general.

International Law This module examines global trade and business theory and practice from a legal perspective. You will study relationships between countries as they affect individuals and business organisations operating internationally, with particular emphasis on cross-border activities. You will look at a broad array of international business issues and their corresponding legal implications, and learn how to apply sound legal concepts to international business transactions.

International Marketing Management This module explores the importance of marketing as a management philosophy in securing the long-term success of organisations.You will study the differences in practice and perspective between large and small organisations. The module takes an integrated view of marketing management and prepares you for the challenges of marketing on a global scale.You will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to develop viable international marketing plans.

International Marketing Research and Methods This module introduces qualitative and quantitative approaches to research design, data collection and analysis in social sciences. You will look at market research techniques and practices with an emphasis on the international marketing environment, its demands and challenges.

International Services Marketing The module explores the key differences between the international marketing of goods and the international marketing of services. You will learn to identify, evaluate and apply the correct marketing mix elements to the international services sector. You will also debate the key issues and challenges of marketing services across international borders, and examine relevant academic theory on services marketing in an international context.

International Supply Chains Control of costs is essential to maintain price competitiveness and profit margins in international markets. This module will equip you with the skills to understand and make managerial decisions of an advanced nature regarding the competitive value and costcontrol of a company‘s supply chain. You will examine the three main areas of the company‘s supply chain: inputs, the wealth creation from those inputs, and the outputs of semifinished and finished goods.

This module examines industrial relations issues and practices in an international context, exploring issues such as collective bargaining, trade unionism, labour-management relations and the management of conflict.

Islamic Finance Islamic financial institutions have evolved to create an alternative financial system to the conventional one.The industry has grown rapidly in the past few decades and operates in over 75 countries. This module examines the principles, challenges and prospects of the Islamic financial system, together with current trends and practices in the industry.

Language for Business The study of languages and other cultures complements the study of international business.

This module will equip you with some language competence and aid your understanding of language and cultural factors in business. Courses last one semester and are offered at beginner level (Arabic, Chinese, French and Spanish) and elementary level (French and Spanish).

Luxury Marketing This module explores the differences between the marketing of luxury-branded products and services and mass-market products. You will look at the limitations and difficulties for luxury brands of target marketing and segmentation and consider the need to sustain status while achieving profitability. Through the use of case studies, you will be encouraged to apply your knowledge to real-life situations within the retail, manufacturing and service sectors.

Negotiating Internationally Negotiating is a skill that lies at the heart of international business, but approaches differ significantly from culture to culture. The successful negotiator will need to draw on a wide variety of resources and attributes, including familiarity with the culture in question and effective communication skills. You will make an intensive exploration of different attitudes and perspectives, and develop your skills through simulated negotiations.

Political Marketing This module examines lobbying, electoral and government campaigning, and their relation to strategic marketing.You will gain specific insights into the practicalities of media production, polling and fundraising, and learn how marketing techniques can be used in a non-conventional environment. The module builds upon concepts of not-for-profit marketing, including fundraising and the use of volunteers as a resource, and explores communication with voters in detail.

Private Equity and Venture Capital This module will show you how to apply the basic rules and techniques of finance to specific cases, and how to manage the particular challenges posed in a private equity scenario. The real art of private equity investing comes in the valuation of potential investments. Every person involved in the investment process will have different views about its value, and different ways of deriving that value. Understanding these different perspectives is the most important skill, or instinct, to acquire in private equity—even more important than the many various valuation techniques.

Reward Management This module looks at strategy and policy in rewarding staff fairly and consistently, according to their value to the organisation and to help the organisation achieve its strategic goals. The ways in which staff performance is assessed and valued can have a considerable impact on the effectiveness of an organisation, and the morale of employees. The links between reward management and other HRM practices is crucial to an organisation‘s success in guiding employees towards its strategic objectives.

Selling Every activity in business and life involves collaboration, problem solving and negotiation. Selling is one of the core transferable skills that will serve you as a business manager throughout your life. This module enables you to understand and experience the process of selling, and develop your own selling skills and style. You will explore the application of selling at various stages of the business life-cycle and acquire core sales skills which will serve you well throughout your career.

Small Business Mentoring In a fast-moving environment, significant knowledge may not be passed on from entrepreneurs and managers to others. This module fosters the transfer of knowledge using basic mentoring techniques. You will explore the principles, tools and ethics of mentoring, and learn to prepare and administer a mentoring session.

Small Firms in International Marketing This module looks at the role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the global economy. You will analyse the globalisation process of the SME and the contrasting management and decision-making activities of the SME and the larger business. The particular problems facing small firms in an international marketing context are explored, and you will learn to apply marketing strategies and tactics for business survival and growth.

Strategic Human Resource Development HR practitioners are increasingly asked to take a more strategic role in business, so that training and development are integrated with an organisation’s goals and aligned to other HR activities. This module explores human resource development from an academic as well as a practitioner perspective and looks at HRD practices across the UK, US, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Strategic Human Resource Management This module will enable you to gain a strong understanding of different concepts and ideologies of strategic human resource management by discussing, analysing and criticising various models and applying them in the real world. The module will ensure that you understand the dynamic, complex and hugely significant role of SHRM within organisations.

Strategy Dynamics for Entrepreneurial Design This module explores the relationships between resources, capabilities and other variables that affect the performance of a business over time. You will look at issues such as recruitment and retention of customers, cash flow, staffing and capacity. The module uses a ‘strategy dynamics’ approach to build up business-related models and analysis, giving insights not possible by traditional static analysis.

Strategy in Action This module aims to increase the depth and breadth of your studies through the exploration of situations in which strategy is formulated, executed and evaluated. You will look at the practical application of different theoretical frameworks, concepts, schools of thought and draw upon your own knowledge of the functional aspects of an organisation.

Technological Entrepreneurship This module enables would-be entrepreneurs interested in new technology ventures to evaluate opportunities and maximise their chances of success in pursuing them. You will work in mixed project teams on real-world opportunities, either start-ups or ventures by established firms.

Technology and International Business As both an enabling factor and as a source of competitive advantage, technology and innovation are central to the growth of international business and to the success or failure of individual firms. In an increasingly globalised economy, where competitors may be half-way around the world as easily as around the corner, understanding the role of technology in international business has become an essential skill for everyone – be they in manufacturing, services, finance or government.

The Artistry of Leadership This module explores the concepts of creativity and innovation as a key tool for successful management and leadership.You will learn how the application of the creative arts within the workplace and ‘thinking outside the box’ can maximise the effectiveness of staff and services.The module looks at managing complex problem-solving scenarios and recognising patterns by the use of forecasting and prediction models.You will develop the techniques to realise the potential of the individual within the workplace, and learn to apply creative thinking in changing learning settings and unpredictable contexts.

The Changing Geography of International Business This module explores business environments in countries and regions that are emerging as new, dynamic forces in global business.

You will look at the historical, political, economic, cultural and sociological aspects of these areas (the ‘macro view’) and consider the impact of these factors on the way businesses are run (the ‘micro’ view). The module offers practical and specific knowledge that you will be able to use in future roles involving contact and business engagement with these countries.

The Politics of International Trade This module explores changing configurations in the international trading system and the management of trade relations at international and regional levels. There is a focus on the World Trade Organisation, regional trading blocs and newly formed cross-regional alliances. You will also examine the factors affecting prospects for stability and prosperity in the current international trade order.

COURSE MODULES Transnational Marketing Seminar This module aims to provide an understanding of transnationalism and its implications for organisations and consumers. You will be introduced to international marketing through a number of academic and industry guest speakers as well as through specialist reading from selected academic and industry periodicals. Classroom discussions will enable you to develop new ideas and gain inspiration.

Understanding Personality and Organisational Psychology Staff absence and turnover in organisations is most often due to a break down in inter-personal relations between managers and their subordinates. This module investigates the basis of personality, the nature of work, the future working environment, emotional intelligence, awareness and empathy.

You will learn to recognise your own beliefs and values, and how you learn and behave individually and in groups, in order to be better prepared to cope with others holding differing views, values and agendas to your own.

MBA INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS Business and Competitive Environments This module offers an insight into a complex and often contradictory subject area where the perspectives are as diverse as there are writers on the subject. You will look at theories for understanding the external environment and examine a company’s resources and capabilities as the basis for formulating competitive strategies.

You will learn through in-depth study of real businesses and take part in a strategic management simulation.

Business Project This module consolidates your knowledge, intellectual and practical skills in an essentially realistic business project environment. You will make use of diverse materials from across the programme to demonstrate a critical understanding of international business and management.

Supported by your academic supervisor, you will produce a piece of critical writing that reflects the learning and insight that you have gained across your studies.

Crossing Continents: Language and Culture in Business This module has two aims. First, it will prepare you for the period of study abroad that forms part of the programme, helping you to adjust quickly to your new surroundings. Secondly, it looks at the linguistic and cross-cultural knowledge that international managers need in a globalised world economy, and their impact on ethical and strategic decision making.

Entrepreneurship and New Business Ventures This module focuses on the challenges involved in managing entrepreneurial ventures, whether in start-ups, small early-stage entrepreneurial ventures, or larger, well-established companies. You will explore major themes of innovation, the management of creativity and dealing with operational challenges. The module aims to provide a solid foundation in the fundamentals of business planning at any stage of company growth or size.

Financial and Managerial Accounting This module examines financial and management accounting in an international and strategic context. It covers the interpretation, use and analysis of accounting information for both financial and managerial purposes.

Financial Management This module explores the interpretation, use and analysis of strategic financial information in an international context. You will look at the sources of finance available to an international organisation and how the three main components of working capital (inventory, debtors and cash) can be efficiently managed.

Information and E-Business Information is an organisation‘s key asset in aiding managers to plan, control and make business decisions. The internet has also profoundly changed the way business is conducted on a global scale. This module looks at the development and management of information systems and how they are used in making business decisions that impact on global and ethical issues. You will also look at the challenges of conducting business on the internet, and learn to propose e-business models.

Managing Organisations and People The effective management and deployment of labour is crucial in international organisations.

Managers must have the ability to manage a culturally diverse workforce in a complex environment, where there is constant change in strategy, skills and diversity of organisational practices, and a greater complexity of inter-personal relationships. This module deals with the cultural issues involved, as well as the strategic role of international human resources management in helping to achieve competitive advantage.

Marketing in Diverse Environments Organisations need to build long-term relationships with customers in order to achieve market share, profitability and customer loyalty. Marketing as a discipline has almost become a science, a powerful gateway into today‘s competitive business environment. It has a strong practical dimension that is inseparable from the conceptual frameworks that underpin it.You will learn to relate key concepts to everyday observable phenomena such as branding and advertising, and develop a set of techniques for analysing markets and creating workable business solutions.

Operations and Services Management The efficient running of business depends on the management of operations in both manufacturing and service sectors. This module will help you to develop the knowledge and technical skills for effective operations management and show how these can be used to best advantage in the production and service sectors.

MSc GLOBAL BANKING & FINANCE Alternative Investments This module looks at alternative investment vehicles – hedge funds, private equity, venture capital and commodity trading advisers. Portfolio management, asset allocation, investment selection and investment performance are also covered for each of the different areas.

You will develop a critical understanding of the concept of private equity finance and the fundraising and investment process of private equity firms, as well as the characteristics of private equity, its returns, risks and cash-flow implications.

Bank Risk Management This module examines the globalisation trends affecting banks’ structure, together with changes in the regulatory environment. Whether a bank chooses to strategically remain focused in one country or expand internationally will affect its profitability, its existing customers, its product range and ultimately its own survival.

You will look at financial innovation, and the growth of derivative markets and secondary markets in bank deposits and loans. You will also explore the failure of banks and techniques for measuring, monitoring and managing risk.

Banking Regulation This module will develop your understanding of financial regulation codes and legislation across the globe.You will analyse a range of rules, legal issues and supervisory approaches relating to risk, performance and strategic decisions in the banking and financial industry, and apply core theory to a range of case studies. The module will develop your ability to work in a regulatory or supervisory authority, as well as to understand how the regulatory framework may impact on the different segments of the financial system.

Bond Market Strategies In recent decades, bond markets have become highly sophisticated in their offering of a wide range of instruments, from bonds with embedded options to assetbacked securities or structured notes. This module looks at the structure and uses of these securities and the increasingly complex techniques for valuing them. It will develop your understanding of bond markets and securities theory and practice, and forge a solid understanding of structuring techniques, portfolio strategies and products within the bond markets.

COURSE MODULES Corporate Finance This module examines the theory and practice of corporate finance and explores the interrelationship of investment decisions, financing and corporate value. You will forge a solid understanding of financial, interest rate, cash flow, valuation and structuring techniques. You will look at long-term investments as well as the management of day-to-day financial decisions in the context of issues such as globalisation, the separation of ownership from control, and the process of mergers and acquisitions.

Dissertation This is an independent piece of research focusing on the selection and analysis of a topic, design of the research, its execution and written presentation. The dissertation will demonstrate your technical mastery and capability for conducting independent scholarly work. It should aim to extend or modify previously existing knowledge within global banking and finance theory and practice. You will be guided and supported by an academic adviser.

Financial Engineering: Equity-Structured Products Innovation in the financial markets is constant, such as the recent growth in credit derivatives and structured equity products for retail markets. For managers and market participants these developments present new opportunities and risks.

The challenges take many different forms and participants must take regulatory as well as tax and accounting legislation into account. This module will help you develop the skills to deal with such real-world challenges, often by creating and managing synthetic assets of various kinds.

Financial Statement Analysis and Valuation Market practitioners need to be able to assess the viability of an investment by means of fundamental information obtained through a company’s financial statements. This module examines reporting and accounting policies and their effect on the data in financial statements. You will look at financial statement analysis from an investment perspective, and for company analysis and valuation purposes.

Investment Analysis This module will develop your understanding of investment theory and practice. It provides a consistent framework of fundamental principles which will help you develop the intuition to confront challenges throughout your professional working life. You will explore the principles from both an academic and practitioners’ point of view, linking financial theory with actual practice.

Microfinance There have been huge changes in the services offered by microfinance institutions and the ways in which they raise capital. Technological innovations have also changed the landscape of microfinance. This module will develop your understanding of modern microfinance theory and practice, covering the traditional microcredit, recent micro-financial services and the role of banks in microfinance. You will look at topics such as demand and supply, products and services, sustainability and outreach, risk management and the role of regulation.

Monetary Policy and Central Bank Operations This module examines monetary policy theory and practice, and the interrelationship between monetary policy decisions, interest rates and investment decisions. You will gain a solid understanding of the theories underlying contemporary monetary policy frameworks, demand and supply of money, portfolio choices, and the rules and reputation of a central bank. You will also look at how the monetary policy framework may affect an economic agent’s decisions, be it a business or a household.

Research Methods This module explores the research methods you will need in preparation for your dissertation, together with techniques for collecting, analysing and interpreting data. You will focus on researching a particular area of global banking and finance and choose a relevant methodology to answer your research questions. You will learn to apply both qualitative and quantitative data analysis, including interviews, surveys and case-study analysis, as well as statistical and econometric methods.

Trading in Global Financial Markets In global financial markets trading is conducted on behalf of individual customers as well as proprietary trading by financial institutions. To succeed, traders must not only have a good grasp of global economic fundamentals, but must also understand technical indicators and market behaviour. This module offers practical exposure to the art and science of trading. You will take a comprehensive look at traders, trading and the behaviour of markets, and develop a trading strategy of your own which you will sell to the right client.
