With China set to become the world’s leading economy over the next decade, international business managers will need a broad view of the complexities of global business, combined with the necessary language skills and understanding of Chinese society and culture.

The BA (Hons) International Business & Chinese Studies is a joint honours degree which will equip you with the essential knowledge and skills for success as a future business leader, strategist and decision maker in the Chinese market and on the wider global stage.

What does it offer?

The BA (Hons) International Business & Chinese Studies will equip you with the management, intercultural and language skills needed for a global business career.

From my experience of doing business with China, a programme such as this is ideal for future business people because it allows fast-track understanding of business, language and culture needs, which is most important for successful business engagement with the Chinese.

This is a demanding programme, for students who have the potential and motivation to succeed in a challenging international business career.

It will give you a solid international business and language education coupled with insight into China’s rapidly developing economy, its growing political influence, rich traditional cultures and styles of business management.

Joint honours degree This programme will enable you to study across two disciplines to degree level while acquiring a broader range of skills than is typically possible within a single honours degree.

Language study You will develop fluent Chinese speaking, writing and translating skills, with a particular focus on language for business.

Study in China You will spend two semesters living and studying in China and gain real experience of everyday life in Chinese communities.

Our Chinese partner institutions Beijing Language and Culture University Nanjing University Qingdao University Tsinghua University Zhejiang Gongshang University Work experience In addition to your studies, you will undertake a minimum of 30 weeks of work placement, applying your learning to real-world business and cultural settings. Of this, at least 10 weeks will take place in China. Regent's University will guarantee one work placement in China for all students enrolled on this programme (subject to Chinese visa approval).

What skills will I gain?

The BA (Hons) International Business & Chinese Studies will give you an international and cross-cultural view of the business world.

You will build your language skills and understanding of Chinese society from social, political, economic and cultural perspectives.

The programme will help you to develop the transferable skills essential for success in global business, including the ability to lead and manage people in a complex and changing environment.

It will foster a spirit of innovation and enterprise and equip you with lifelong learning skills.

The programme is well structured and we are sure that it will attract a lot of interest as Chinese language and business studies are very important subjects in the present global economy and international business.

The programme culminates in a major business and Chinese area studies disser tation, prepared over semesters 7 and 8.

The BA (Hons) International Business & Chinese Studies will prepare you for a career as a leader, manager, strategist or entrepreneur in many different sectors and in small, large, multinational or family-run businesses.

Industry relevance This is a specialist programme, designed in collaboration with international business leaders, which focuses on the knowledge and skills you will need to do business in China.

International campus Our 4,000-strong student body is diverse and multicultural, with over 140 different nationalities and 110 different languages spoken on campus.

Many areas of the international business sector will be open to you, including management, finance, strategy, retail and human resources. There are opportunities in banking and the financial departments of major multinational corporations that do business with China.

Your academic training will also give you the knowledge and skills to continue your studies at a higher level in business administration and related areas, or in multidisciplinary areas involving business, management, languages and intercultural studies.

Practical learning We emphasise interaction and activity-based learning.

You will explore real-life case studies and undertake internships to apply your knowledge in real business settings.

How to Apply

Small class sizes Classes of no more than 25 students to a seminar (12 for language studies) offer you plenty of personal interaction with tutors and visiting business experts.

— A minimum of three passes at GCE A-level, at grade C or above, and five passes at GCSE/IGCSE level at grade C or above, including English and mathematics (or other equivalent qualifications) — Students whose qualifications do not permit direct entry to the degree can apply for the one-year Business Foundation course — All courses are taught in English, and proficiency in the language is required
