Ullswater Community College

Welcome from our Headteacher, Mr Pattinson. Ullswater Community College is a happy, friendly, and fiercely ambitious place, where every student is treated as an individual. Academic standards are our priority and we believe that exceptional results are a product of the care and support we offer all our students. I expect our students to achieve in all areas of their college life whether they are receiving their results, competing in sport or participating in arts events. Not only do our students want to do well they expect to enjoy themselves in the process. We have the staff, facilities and determination to ensure that they do so.

We take pride in the ability of our teaching because we know that great teaching is the medium through which students’ lives are changed and their dreams achieved. We are relentlessly self-critical in our pursuit of the very highest standards in teaching to encourage, inspire and enthuse so that our students expect to progress and understand how to succeed.

At Ullswater Community College, we value the achievement of every student whatever their level of ability. Whilst diversity and inclusion are fundamental to our approach we are uncompromising about every child’s entitlement to first class education. Our curriculum provides the framework for choices which are tailored to every student’s aspirations and ability. Close attention to individual guidance ensures that all our students make informed decisions in order to realise their hopes and ambitions. In return we have become accustomed to year on year increases in our students’ achievements.

We aim to produce confident learners who achieve the highest academic and vocational standards. Learning is an active process which engages students in independent and cooperative learning, developing the resilience and problem solving skills needed for success in adulthood. We are very proud of the partnership which exists between students and teachers to ensure the best learning. Our students have the right to the very best teaching and accept their responsibility to be the best students possible.

The arts are for everyone. We encourage students to participate and celebrate difference; promoting self-esteem, self-expression and team work.

In addition to excellent examination results, our students make outstanding contributions to their local community. They take part in international development work in Tanzania and Taiwan, and closer to home in supporting local charities. Our Sixth Form students take part in paired reading schemes which help our younger students. Opportunities exist for all students to contribute to community events projects such as Eden Rivers Trust and supporting local primary schools with a range of Year 6 to Year 7 transition activities.

Achieving in our extra curricular activites underpins academic success We believe that taking part gives our students confidence and a lifelong interest in exciting activities.

Our students have the opportunity to excel in well-structured and supportive environments. Ullswater Community College students, whatever their academic abilities, are provided with a lively, challenging learning environment which is personalised and supported by technology. Our students become independent learners by using existing and emerging technologies as an integral part of their studies across the academic and vocational curriculum.

The Applied Learning Centre offers a range of vocational opportunities and apprenticeships to ensure that all our students are able to develop their interests and abilities fully.
