Judge Hanuszczak Begins Second Term Syracuse- Acting New York State Supreme Court Justice and Family Court Judge Michael Hanuszczak was administered the oath of office by Appellate Justice John Centra, at a ceremony held at the Onondaga County Courthouse. The judge’s son Peter, held the Bible before an audience of family members, fellow judges, parishioners, campaign volunteers, and elected officials. Judge Hanuszczak and his family are members of the Syracuse branch of the Ukrainian Federal Credit Union.

Суддю Ганущака обрано на другий термін. Сиракузи. Дійсний суддя Верховного Суду штату НЙ прийняв присягу на повторний строк. Церемонія відбулася в будинку Суду в окрузі Онондага. Його син Пітер тримав Біблію, на якій суддя присягався перед присутніми – членами сім’ї, колегами, прихожанами, волонтерами кампанії та офіційними представниками. Сам суддя М. Ганущак, і його сім’я – довгочасні члени філії УФКС в Сиракузах.

Ostroh Academy Rector Pasichnyk visits Rochester, NY A fierce winter storm delayed the arrival of Dr. Ihor Pasichnyk, and his associate Eduard Balashov, to Rochester, New York. This delay forced the cancellation of planned meetings at the University of Rochester and the Rochester Institute of Technology. Dr. Ihor Pasichnyk serves as the Rector of the Ostroh Academy in Ukraine, and Eduard Balashov as Head of the Foreign Relations Department. They toured several Ukrainian communities in the United States and Canada during the holiday season prior to visiting Rochester, NY. When Dr. Ihor Pasichnyk and Eduard Balashov finally arrived at the airport they were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Walter Denysenko, who drove them to special dinner meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wolodymyr Pylyshenko. The intimate group of Ostroh Academy supporters who gathered for this special occasion included: Mrs. Irene Russnak, an honorary member of UNWLA, CYA, who has given charitably to the Ostroh Academy; Dr. Evhen Lylak, professor at the NTID at RIT, who gives generously of his time to the Ukrainian community, and the Ukrainian Federal Credit Union serving as its Supervisory committee chair; Dr. Christine Hoshowsky, a long standing member of UNWLA, and a recently-retired teacher and former department head of history and economics at Irondequoit High School in Rochester; Walter and Tamara

Denysenko. Mrs. Denysenko, recently retired as the CEO of the Ukrainian Federal Credit Union and currently serves on the UFCU Board of Directors. And the gracious hosts of the evening Wolodymyr and Irma Pylyshenko. Mr. and Mrs. Wolodymyr Pylyshenko retired from teaching and administrative work at SUNY Brockport and currently volunteer much of their time to the Ukrainian community. Mr. Pylyshenko shares a great interest in the National University of the Ostroh Academy, and has a discourse with the academicians on the subject of the Ukrainian Diaspora. Dr. Hoshowsky used the occasion of the meeting, with Dr. Pasichnyk and Mr. Balashov, to make a generous donation to the Ostroh Academy. During dinner, Dr. Ihor Pasichnyk commented on the financial and administrative challenges facing the Academy, and discussed the topic of international outreach. He praised the efforts of the Ukrainian-American communities, in the United States and Canada, to support the Ostroh Academy. Dr. Ihor Pasichnyk also encouraged greater participation in the growth of this historically significant institute of higher learning in Ukraine. Делегація з Острозької академії відвідала Рочестер Зимова штормова погода стала причиною затримки прибуття ректора Українського Національного університету Острозька академія доктора Ігоря Пасічника та завідуючого відділом зовнішніх зв’язків Едуарда Балашова в Рочестер, Нью-Йорк. На жаль, ця затримка змусила скасувати заплановані зустрічі в Університеті Рочестера та Рочестерському технологічному інституті (RIT). Коли наступного вечора гості, нарешті, прибули у аеропорт Рочестеру, їх зустріло подружжя Денисенків – Володимир і Тамара, та привезли на гостину до Володимира та Ірми Пилишенків, де відбулася зустріч з групою прихильників Острозької академії. Серед них були: Ірина Руснак, доктор Євген Лилак, Володимир та Ірма Пилишенки, доктор

Христина Гошовська, Володимир і Тамара Денисенко. Під час обіду Ігор Пасічник розповів про фінансові та адміністративні труднощі, що стоять перед Академією, а також торкнувся теми міжнародної співпраці. Він високо оцінив те, що українськоамериканські громади у Сполучених Штатах і Канаді роблять для підтримки Острозької академії та закликав громаду до участі в цьому історичному проекті розвитку вищої освіти в Україні. a few facts -

The Ostroh Academy, 1576-1636, was constituted as an institution of higher learning. In 1994, it was reestablished by Presidential decree and in 2000, it was elevated to the status of the National University of the Ostroh Academy. Its goal is to educate high caliber professionals of good character and strong national awareness. Today, the Academy is comprised of six colleges which embrace the studies of law, economics, political science, international relations, languages and humanities. The Academy boasts a strong international department which includes student exchange programs with Poland and Canada, and visiting professors from Europe and N. America. In pursuit of international recognition and accreditation, the National University of the Ostroh Academy received full membership in the European Association of Universities and adopted the Western system of higher degrees, offering Bachelor, Master, and Doctorate degrees. Ostroh has a new state of the arts library, modern computer laboratories, a foreign language resource center, and an art and cultural center. It also sports a new football stadium and tennis courts. Work is continuing on a theater-size media center, an education complex and new dormitories may be in the offering.
