DMD STUDENT CLINIC SECOND FLOOR RENOVATIONS WELCOME to the second issue of the Dean’s Brief, created with the intent of keeping the College of Dentistry’s various stakeholders better informed of the amazing progress we’re making on a number of fronts. In the fall of 2017, UKCD celebrated the reopening of a renovated thirdfloor DMD Student Clinic. Over the summer, similar renovations have been taking place in our DMD Student Clinic located on the second floor of our building. Updates include energy efficient overhead LED lighting, cabinet mounted orange LEDs for each chair, the installation of dual-monitors at each chair, intraoral cameras, and x-ray tubes. Aesthetic updates to the space include new cabinetry, flooring, ceiling tiles, and window shades. In addition to the clinic and various common areas, patient waiting areas and restrooms have been renovated as well.

SIMULATION LAB UPDATES
SIXTH-FLOOR DESIGN SUITE OPEN UKCD’s new sixth-floor design suite provides a space where DMD students can gain hands-on experience with various software including DentalWings and coDiagnostiX. The space houses over 20 work stations and two instructional monitors. Additional workstations, available for patient cases, are housed near the DMD Student Clinic on the third floor of our building.
Following updates to our sixth-floor simulation lab, student dentists returned to new computers and monitors at each work station, and additional intraoral scanners to support the use of the Romexis Compare®. The Compare® software provides student dentists with a self-evaluation option to review how closely their work matches a provided standard, aiding in the learning process by eliminating subjectivity, allowing for instant feedback, and providing students with more opportunities to assess their work independently should they desire. Additionally, demonstration equipment has been updated to offer higherquality live demonstrations in the lab.
