SEDBERGH SCHOOL

When Bahri arrived in the UK, it was his first time living away from home. Through weekly phone calls and regular contact, we noticed his maturity and drive; he now has clear future goals and is working hard to achieve them.

Bahri has had a unique journey in the UK. He is a talented footballer and joined a football academy where the main focus was training, rather than academic studies. However, we soon spotted Bahri’s academic potential and did everything we could to guide and support him to develop his abilities. Bahri is intelligent and capable, and it helped that he is a very conscientious student.

Bahri worked extremely hard over the past 2 years and with help from our educational advisors and regular tutoring sessions with our subject specialists, he obtained excellent GCSE grades including grade 9s for maths and sciences and an A for additional maths. He also won the Principal’s Prize for Community Engagement and the Key Stage 4 Maths prize for high performance.

Bahri was also a top player in his previous school’s football team. They were a strong team who won the ESFA (English Schools’ Football Association) Under 16 Schools’ Cup earlier this year, achieving a massive 5-0 victory!

We are incredibly proud of everything Bahri has achieved and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for this talented young man. Bahri’s career goals are to study veterinary medicine or ecology at university, as well as being a professional footballer! We are looking forward to helping him through his A-levels, while continuing to work with his 2 younger brothers. With his dedication and 100% effort he puts into everything he does, we are sure Bahri will reach his goals!

“I am grateful for the love that UKG has shown my child. They celebrate every step of his journey, and I am truly thankful. UKG has been an indispensable mentor in his growth and feels more like family.”

Not only do UK2Learn provide guardianship services to international students while they are studying full time in the UK, but prior to Covid-19, UK2Learn regularly provided short-term immersion programmes for international students. With lifted travel restrictions, 2023 has been the right time to bring this opportunity back for young people.

Flash back to earlier this year, we were contacted by an agency in Spain and were asked if we could support an immersion student who is looking for an exciting experience in the UK. Now we are supporting Alberto, a Year 11 student who is currently at a state secondary school in Surrey for the Autumn Term.

What is an immersion programme?

An immersion programme is an opportunity for international students to be fully immersed in a new setting for a period of time, meanwhile learning a new language, meeting new people, having new experiences, and creating memories.

Where does an immersion student stay?

At UK2Learn, we have a large range of fantastic hosts who are open to hosting immersion students. Our amazing, experienced host family in Guildford has been hosting Alberto throughout his time here in the UK, and they have been an essential part of the process in making his experience as smooth as possible. They have helped with his school lunches, school uniform, showing him how to navigate public transport and they have even taken him to London for the day.

Memories for life.

While Alberto has been at his immersion school, he has been given an insight into the UK school curriculum, he has learnt independence, gained confidence all while forming new friendships, he has participated in afterschool activities and has even been picked to play for the school football team attending an away match against another school in the area. When we asked Alberto about his Immersion experience, he said “The UK2Learn team have been so kind to me, and this is an experience that everyone needs to do”. We have thoroughly enjoyed supporting Alberto and we wish him all the best with his future endeavours.
