I am a Copyright Lawyer, and in the United States the Copyright Act provides in section 102(a)(4) for copyright protection in “pantomimes and choreographic works” created after January 1, 1978, and fixed in some tangible medium of expression. As you know, choreography is the composition and arrangement of a related series of dance movements and patterns organized into a coherent whole.

But... choreography can only be protected under copyright— if it’s original and recorded, so, flapping your wings to Beyoncé doesn’t count.

With a copyright registration you can protect your work against unauthorized copying.

Yeah... we do more than that...
