WHO WE ARE The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) realized the difficulties working adults had balancing a career, family and social responsibilities when earning their college degree. In 1995, the Adult Degree Completion Program was established to provide the benefits of undergraduate education to those unable to attend college in a traditional setting. In 2000, the Virtual University was founded to extend that reach further by offering online degree programs. Fast forward to today. Both areas have merged into the School of Professional Studies (SPS), which continues these pursuits. SPS now offers undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees for working professionals. SPS also offers personal development opportunities for professionals needing continuing education or certifications to reach their career goals. We deliver an effective and relevant instruction with a mix of academic and business professionals. Our full-time faculty are assisted in the classroom by scholar practitioners who help to bring real-world experience in their fields. The degree programs offered are chosen for their content-rich curriculum and their applicability to today’s needs.
Accreditation
The University of the Incarnate Word is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate, baccalaureate, master’s, doctorate and professional degrees. The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Professional Master of Business Administration and Doctor of Business Administration programs are fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).
A MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN Access, Opportunity and Affordability
With access, we emphasize the importance of providing different delivery modalities, flexible schedules, convenient locations and flexible organizational structures. Through these academic and institutional flexibilities and different paths for access, students do not have to choose between their work/personal lives and education but are able to receive the education they need to further their careers and for personal enhancement at the time, location and pace of their choice. With opportunity, we emphasize the importance of providing students/ community members with a multitude of education offerings that are innovative and responsive to the students of the communities. These opportunities are determined by student/market demand. From the very beginning, SPS has made its mission to serve those who were unable to devote themselves to full-time academic work because of their need to work. While providing high-quality, affordable education to meet the ever-changing needs of Texas and the nation, SPS strives to ensure access and opportunities at an affordable rate. Tuition Reimbursement
100% Online & Classroom
The School of Professional Studies does not have academic fees, so tuition reimbursement can be applied to cover more of the cost of attendance. Our tuition rates allow dollars to go further and businesses are more likely to recommend us to their employees.
Classes are offered every eight weeks with six terms per year and a four week winter session. There are three learning centers in San Antonio and one in Corpus Christi for classes held once a week during evenings or weekends. Classes are also available online asynchronously for students who need extra flexibility or live in a remote area.

BUSINESS FOCUS We have degree programs in business, healthcare, psychology and criminal justice. The majority of the degree programs are business related. This is no mistake. Working with local businesses, we understand the need to fill their positions with knowledgeable employees with the acumen they desire. Across all sectors and business sizes, our programs are geared toward creating accessible coursework for working adults that are tailored to meet the talent and skills desired by both the individual and the business organization.
Build a Foundation SPS undergraduate business degrees provide students with the coursework foundation to easily transition to earning their master’s degree. Students lacking business prerequisites are offered low-cost alternatives to complete their common professional components.
SHRM
The Society for Human Resources Management has acknowledged several SPS degree programs for their alignment with SHRM’s HR curriculum and templates.
Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) The DBA builds on the knowledge and skills of students who have completed master’s level study in business and business-related disciplines. This program creates scholar-practitioners who are able to provide meaningful contributions to the advancement of business research and practice. The DBA incorporates a blended delivery approach utilizing technology and face-to-face instruction to create a combination of synchronous and asynchronous pedagogy. Learn more at dba.uiw.edu
HEALTH FOCUS The Associate of Science and Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences degrees offer a pathway to success in the healthcare industry, which is among San Antonio’s most important. We allow students to transfer courses into these degrees so they are able to choose the pathway they want their careers to take them. Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences SPS offers an Administration concentration that allows students the option to sit for the following nationally accredited certifications: Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician, Certified Billing and Coding Specialist, Certified Electronic Health Record Specialist and Certified Medical Administrative Assistant. Master of Arts in Administration with a concentration in Healthcare Administration A great option for students seeking a graduate administration degree with a focus on healthcare.

SCHOLARSHIPS
The School of Professional Studies awards a scholarship to students in financial need every term. Students who are registered and maintain a 2.0 GPA (UG) or a 2.5 GPA (GR) are eligible to be entered into the scholarship drawing. Proceeds from SPS student events go directly to scholarships.
FACULTY SPS faculty are committed to developing proficiencies in the application of analytical and methodological skills. They synthesize theory and practice emphasizing the social, ethical and global implications of decision making. With a wide range of expertise, faculty are skilled in the disciplines they have been credentialed to teach.

We have 12 full-time faculty who help design and administer curriculum for the working professional.
Part-Time
We have over 200 part-time faculty who are scholar-practitioners with real-world experience in their fields.
