Annet Daems

Finally a book about Italian street delicacies

Not just another book about Italian cuisine, but also a culinary travel experience

Abundantly illustrated with hundreds of full colour pictures and fifty authentic recipes

Italy has a rich culture of street delicacies that vary from region to region. What once used to be food for the poor, has now developed into celebrated cultural heritage. Respecting age old recipes and often following the principles of slow cooking, pure dishes are prepared. Invariably making use of the best local ingredients.

With her camper Annet Daems traversed the 20 regions of the Italian Boot, looking for stories and recipes of the ‘cucina povera’. In this book, Daems outlines the origins of many local street delicacies. Through interviews with ‘specialists’ and dozens of enticing pictures, she transports all these authentical dishes to your plate.

Annet Daems married in Italy and was adopted into a very large Italian family. In Tuscany she supervised exchange students studying journalism. She was inspired by the enticing stories of many local artisans and chefs. With much passion and dedication, she managed an Italian catering and deli shop in Antwerp. Annet explores an authentic and neglected part of culinary Italy and makes it her mission to make the ancient national dishes more widely known.
