2020 was a year of planned programming changes for this team.

Removing a long-standing incentive to complete the Personal Health Assessment survey and embarking on new programming efforts (see page 7) started off as the main focus. With the unplanned chaos that 2020 brought, this team clung to our mission: Inspiring a culture of well-being, providing employees the opportunity to thrive. When we saw the heroic efforts from UI Health Care and the inspiring, innovative ways our faculty and staff carried out UI’s academic and research mission, we truly became the ones who were inspired. We know there is still a lot of work to be done as the trauma of COVID-19, social injustice, and isolation that 2020 brought to many will have lingering effects—we are ready to continue to provide programs and services that allow the great employees of the University of Iowa the opportunity to thrive!

2020 WELLNESS CHALLENGES

These are three- to ten-week programs where employees can register and earn liveWELL Points for participating. liveWELL sends out weekly tips, tricks, and tools for health improvement focused on many areas of wellness.

LIFESTYLES CHRONIC HEALTH CONDITION PREVENTION PROGRAMS Launched in 2020, both the CDC’s year-long National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) and the 10-Week Weight Management platform (powered by Naturally Slim) have shown that engaged participants reduce their risk for chronic health conditions such as diabetes, stroke, and heart disease.

Diabetes Prevention Program Two groups of DPP launched in February meeting weekly and rapidly moved online in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, two additional DPP groups were launched in August with the following outcomes for 2020:

The 2020 top three behavior risks are the same as 2019; all three saw a 2% increase which indicates more persons with the risky behavior.
