Financial Aid Timeline for the University of Idaho September to February 15 Complete the admission process to receive priority consideration for all merit-based scholarships.

Set up VandalWeb and VandalMail accounts at www. vandalsetup.uidaho.edu with information included in your admission letter.

December to February Award notification begins for those students who have been admitted and who qualify for the guaranteed academic merit programs.

January to February 15 Apply for need-based scholarships and other financial aid by filing a FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Estimate income to file the FAFSA by February 15, then make corrections when 2013 tax returns are complete.

If there are special circumstances that affected your family income in the past year, contact Student Financial Aid Services to determine if we may be able to recalculate your federal financial aid eligibility. Examples include loss of employment, large out-of-pocket medical expenses, etc.

Make plans to attend Vandal Friday.

March Admitted students will be automatically considered for merit-based awards by university-wide scholarship committees.

Students with a FAFSA on file will be considered for need-based financial aid.

Respond to any request for additional information from the financial aid office.

Complete award letters that include all sources of financial aid will be sent in late March.

Create a school year budget to figure out how you will pay for college expenses.

Attend Vandal Friday and register for fall classes.

April Accept awards on VandalWeb. Make plans for living in the residence halls or Greek housing.

July Watch for your billing statement and review your charges and financial aid awards.

Sign master promissory notes and complete entrance counseling for loans. Explore payment options and finalize your budget before school starts in August.

Applying for financial aid and scholarships at the University of Idaho is EASY!

How am I considered for need-based financial aid at the University of Idaho?

All admitted students are automatically considered for University of Idaho merit scholarships. Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to also be considered for need-based scholarships and federal financial aid. Once your completed University of Idaho admission application is received and a FAFSA is submitted, no additional applications or essays are required.

How do I pay for college?

There are several ways to pay for a college education, including self-help/family support and financial aid.

Grants and scholarships: money that does not need to be repaid Work-study: money that is earned through employment at the college or university Loans: money that must be repaid

There are two primary types of financial aid: •

Merit-based eligibility is determined by your academic record which may include GPA and/or test scores. Most scholarships are merit-based.

Need-based eligibility is determined by submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Financial aid includes funding from the federal government, state governments, and colleges and universities.

A worker with a bachelor’s degree will earn $1 million more in a lifetime, on average, than someone with a high school diploma.

What does the University of Idaho offer in merit-based scholarships?

Self-help includes college savings accounts, summer employment and parental/family support.

Why should I get a college degree?

nce you are admitted and your FAFSA has been received, the financial aid office will begin working to find the best financial aid programs available to you. To determine your eligibility we will look at FAFSA records, including the Expected Family Contribution (EFC). The EFC is an index that will be used to determine which programs for which you qualify.

Merit-based aid: To receive priority consideration for merit-based scholarships, submit a complete application for admissions (including fee, transcripts and test scores) by February 15. Go to www.uidaho. edu/admissions.

Need-based aid: To receive priority consideration for need-based financial aid including grants, scholarships, work-study and loans, apply for admission and submit your FAFSA by February 15. Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov.

University of Idaho scholarship committees across campus award over $6 million in 4,500 individual scholarships to our students. These scholarships are primarily funded by generous donors who support our legacy of leading and tradition of providing access to a high quality education as a land-grant research university. Staff members are tra ined to help families with budget ing, loan repayment options, and special circumstances that may arise in financing your educ ation. Every student at the Unive rsity of Idaho has a Financial Aid Ad visor assigned by alphabet and we look forward to working with you.

We will always try to provide students first with grants and scholarships that you don’t pay back, followed by self-help (workstudy programs) and loans (funds that you repay). Next, we will present you with an award notification including all of the financial aid options for which you qualify. You can select which programs best fit your needs to finance your college costs. Yes. There are a number of resources for families, here are a few.

Speak with your guidance counselor and check with family employers, credit unions, churches and other community organizations to see if they offer scholarships.

Student Employment On and off-campus job opportunities are available to support students as they pursue their educational goals.
