WHAT IS NREM? The Natural Resources Enterprise Management (NREM) degree is a unique undergraduate experience where the science of natural resources meets the strategic thinking and entrepreneurial spirit of business. This innovative degree allows you to dive into the world of outdoor professionals with the expertise of our faculty guiding you. Choose between two distinctive emphasis options based on your career goals. By degree completion, you will be equipped with the skills that will get you hired and the knowledge to make a difference. University of Idaho is located in one of the most ecologically diverse states in the country, and the NREM program takes full advantage of this dynamic ecosystem. The NREM degree offers you the chance to apply your classroom skills and knowledge in almost every natural resource setting imaginable—forests, rivers, mountains, and rangelands— right in your backyard. In NREM courses, you will find yourself navigating the whitewater of the Salmon River—fun and exciting, yes, but you’ll also be learning what it takes to run your own outdoor business. From pulling a permit to leading a group of employees on a fun day trip, success is often found in the details and your own confident approach. Fieldwork, mentored employment, industry networking, and community engagement are central to the program. We have found that experience really is the best teacher. It also helps you build your resume and paves the way to a successful career.
