Dear Colleagues and Friends of Pharmacy Practice, I’m pleased to share with you our Residency Programs’ Annual Report and give you a glimpse of our exceptional training opportunities and resident accomplishments at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) College of Pharmacy. The UIC College of Pharmacy has a rich history of defining and advancing the practice of pharmacy. Our clinical and practice-based service programs span over our 2 campuses in Chicago and Rockford and surrounding areas; and we have over 150 faculty practitioners in nearly all inpatient and primary care clinical and service specialties. We embrace an inventive forward-thinking mindset in service and patient care and provide one of the nation’s largest and most comprehensive pharmacy practice programs. The magnitude and quality of our clinical pharmacy and service programs create opportunities for residency training experiences not available elsewhere. Running for more than five decades, UIC’s residency programs stand among the nation’s most prominent and distinguished and train around 35-40 residents each year in general pharmacy practice and several specialty areas. Our residents are given independent experiences so they can practice autonomously and develop a sense of responsibility as clinical professionals. This focus, a hallmark of the UIC program, not only equips trainees with robust and relevant clinical skills, but also ensures our residency retains its standing as a cutting-edge program that prepares the future generation of leaders and change agents in pharmacy and health care. Graduates of our residency training programs are leaders in all patient care settings, academia, pharmaceutical industry, government agencies, professional associations, and many more. Their work has resulted in advances and innovations in pharmacy practice and the expansion of the role and impact of pharmacists. We are proud of the tradition and reputation we developed over the past 50 plus years, and of the success and impact of our residency trainees. We hope you enjoy reading some of our program highlights and residents’ accomplishments over the last academic year. HEAD OF PHARMACY PRACTICE

The 2021-2022 residency year was another outstanding one for the Department of Pharmacy Practice at UIC! Our residents continued their significant contributions to our education, research, service, and entrepreneurship mission. A few notable accomplishments this year include: • Our PGY1 Pharmacy residency class having a 100% match rate into post-graduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residencies and fellowships. • The preceptor of the year award was dedicated as the “Frank P. Paloucek Preceptor of the Year Award” in honor of Dr. Paloucek’s 20 years of service as program director for the PGY1 program. • Our Rockford campus graduated it’s first PGY1 resident and received full accreditation from ASHP. • The PGY1 Community-based residency in Specialty Pharmacy and the PGY2 Critical Care Residency both expanded from 1 to 2 residency positions. • The jointly sponsored UIC- Northshore PGY2 Clinical Pharmacogenomics Residency, under the leadership of Drs. James Lee and Mark Dunnenberger, graduated it’s first resident and received full 8-year accreditation from ASHP. • The PGY2 Ambulatory Care program expanded to 3 positions. Dr. Elizabeth Van Dril assumed the role as Assistant RPD and will begin her role as RPD with the 2022-2023 class as Dr. Shapiro takes on more oversight of our post-graduate training programs. • Check out the ‘Residents in the News’ Section to read about the many great accomplishments of our residents such as publications, presentations, awards and much more. These are just a few highlights of the many accomplishments of our program, RPDs and residents. This success of training future clinical educators, researchers, scholars, and leaders is a testament to the dedication of college and departmental leadership, RPDs, and many devoted clinical faculty preceptors.

PGY1 Pharmacy UIC’s PGY1 pharmacy residency provides training in overall delivery of healthcare with a major emphasis placed on drug-related issues and practices. During this one-year program, the resident effectively makes the transition from student to independent practitioner under guidance from the clinical faculty. The main goals of the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program are to develop competent clinical pharmacists capable of practicing in any setting by providing exposure to a diverse scope of pharmaceutical care services while fostering leaders in clinical pharmacy practice and education. The 2021-2022 PGY1 pharmacy residency class had a 100% match rate into post-graduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residencies and fellowships. Our Community Service Committee organized an effort to raise funds to support the UI Health Neonatal Intensive Care Unit’s holiday drive to provide needed clothes, toys, and supplies for families of our NICU babies. In the spring we hosted residents from the University of Michigan for their professional development trip which lead to a great exchange of ideas related to residency training and clinical pharmacy practice. At the Residency Certificate Ceremony in June, end-of-the-year awards were given to Dr. Elizabeth Foster, PGY1 resident (Richard A. Hutchinson Award for Excellence in Pharmacy Practice); Dr. Marc McDowell, MICU/ED preceptor (Preceptor of the Year); and Clara Gary, Meds-to-Beds Technician (Staff of the Year). In honor of Dr. Frank Paloucek’s 20-year service as program director of the PGY1 residency, the preceptor of the year award was renamed the Frank P. Paloucek Preceptor of the Year Award. In July we welcomed our new 2022-2023 PGY1 class of 12 residents including 3 from UIC and 1 each from University of California San Francisco, University of Iowa, Auburn University, William Carey University, University of Kentucky, University of South Carolina, Wayne State University, University of Colorado Denver, and Butler University. PGY1 Pharmacy International The PGY1 for international graduates is an ASHP-accredited residency specifically for those international students that have completed an ACPE-accredited PharmD program. The mission of the residency is to foster the growth of clinical pharmacy practice outside of the U.S.

The 2021-2022 PGY1 international resident Mohammed Alzahrani, a graduate of St. Louis College of Pharmacy completed a longitudinal research project, “A Retrospective Evaluation of Dosing Weight of Tacrolimus Extended Release (Envarsus XR) in Obese Kidney Transplant Recipients in the de novo setting”, presented his seminar, “Sotorasib and Tepotinib: Taking Action in NSCLC 2021” as well as didactic lectures on the History of Pharmacy and Treatment of Sleep Disorders.

PGY1 PHARMACY INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR

PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy The UIC PGY1 Community-Based Residency Program prepares graduates to utilize clinical skills to provide exceptional pharmaceutical care for patients in a community pharmacy; develop and implement innovative and sustainable patient care services, as well as maintain or improve current services. Graduates obtain positions in community, ambulatory care, and academia, and commit to the advancement of the profession of pharmacy through continued education and involvement. Residents spend 60% of their time in one of UIC’s cutting edge outpatient pharmacies, and 40% of their time rotating through UIC’s ambulatory care clinics, in addition to developing academic and research skills. UIC’s 2021-2022 PGY1 Community-Based Resident, Dr. Karen Juco had a productive and successful year. She participated in student precepting and providing patient care at Wood Street Pharmacy as well as several of the UI Health ambulatory care clinics. Dr. Juco supported the efforts of the pharmacy’s service, Outpatient-Based Clinical Pharmacy Services (OCPS) by providing medication therapy management services to pharmacy patients through OutcomesMTM®. Dr. Juco will continue to help patients maximize their medication use at UI Health as a pharmacist in the UIH MTM Clinic.

PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy - Walgreens The Walgreens-UIC Pharmacy Residency Program is a 12-month, structured, ASHP accredited PGY-1 Community-Based Program. The residency program is based out of three community Walgreens specialty pharmacy locations in Chicago that offer a variety of innovative clinical pharmacy services for the patients who are prescribed complex therapies such as HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C, oncology, and transplant. The residency is offered in partnership with the University of Illinois Chicago College of Pharmacy which allows the resident the opportunity to gain experiences in the delivery of clinical pharmacy services in ambulatory care clinics as well as actively participate in teaching and precepting experiences.

Our 2021-2022 PGY1 community-based resident, Dr. Rawan Zayed, was highly productive over her residency year. She contributed to the community, health system, college, and pharmacy profession through service, research, precepting and teaching activities, and presentations. At the conclusion of the residency year, Dr. Zayed secured a PGY2 in Ambulatory Care at Franciscan Health for 2022-2023.

PGY1 Pharmacy The UIC College of Pharmacy Rockford is pleased to offer a one-year PGY1 pharmacy residency. The program is designed to solidify the skills and knowledge obtained during Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education. By focusing on developing clinical pharmacists prepared to offer medication-related care on multidisciplinary teams, the program provides the advantages of preparation for board certification and postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. Under the mentorship and guidance of experienced clinical faculty members, the pharmacy resident will transition from a student to an independent practitioner during the 12-month program. Following graduation of the inaugural resident in 2022, the UIC College of Pharmacy Rockford PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program received a four-year accreditation from ASHP, progressing from candidate to accredited status.

PGY1 Community-Based The Community-based Residency in Specialty Pharmacy Program is a yearlong program with a goal of producing a well-rounded specialty pharmacy practitioner. The resident will learn how to manage specialty pharmacy patients by rotating through our URAC and ACHC accredited Clinical Care Center and Specialty Pharmacy and by rotating through our specialty outpatient clinics. The PGY1 Community-based Residency in Specialty Pharmacy expanded from 1 residency position to 2 residency positions in 2021-2022 with both residents (Alexandra Edinger and Tina Saleh) successfully completing the program. Rockford The 2021-2022 Rockford PGY1 resident, Dr. Aaron Hunt, accepted a two-year Infectious Diseases Fellowship in the Section of Infectious Diseases at UIC. Dr. Hunt presented his research project, Rate of Opioid Withdrawal Among Inmates at a County Correctional Facility, at the 2022 Great Lakes Pharmacy Residents Conference with manuscript submission in progress. During his residency, Dr. Hunt delivered didactic pharmacy lectures and served on the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee for the county correctional facility.

Specialty Pharmacy including poster presentations at the Vizient Annual Pharmacy meeting and the ASHP summer meeting. In addition, Tina Saleh was invited to present her research as a podium presentation during the ASHP summer meeting. Both residents were successful in attaining positions in specialty pharmacy post-residency. Tina Saleh is working as a Specialty Pharmacy Clinical Pharmacist with University of Michigan Specialty Pharmacy Services and Alexandra Edinger is working as a Fertility Services Clinical Pharmacist with Northwestern Specialty Pharmacy.

PGY2 Residency Programs The UIC College of Pharmacy offered 12 different PGY2 pharmacy residency programs at our Chicago campus. PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build upon skills and competencies from PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. Residents who successfully complete a PGY2 pharmacy residency at UIC are well prepared for practices in advanced patient care, academia, and leadership. In 2021-22, 12 residents completed PGY2 training in one of our programs. Residents had previously completed PGY1 residencies at UIC (5 residents), St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, Veterans Affairs Maryland Health Care System, Valleywise Health Medical Center, NorthShore University HealthSystem, University of Missouri-Kansas City, Orlando VA Healthcare System, and Allegheny General Hospital.

PGY2 Ambulatory Care The Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Pharmacy is a 12-month, structured, ASHP-accredited PGY2 residency. The goal of this residency is to develop expert knowledge and skills in the provision of pharmacotherapy to ambulatory care patients by combining clinical service with educational and scholarly activities. Our 2021-2022 PGY2 ambulatory care residents, Drs. Hali Hanson, Sylvia Ou, and Erin Wasif, were highly productive over their residency year. They contributed to the college, health system and pharmacy profession through precepting and teaching activities, countless presentations and publications, and most importantly, through the provision of high-quality comprehensive medication management for patients served by UI Health. Drs. Hanson, Ou, and Wasif have all secured positions as ambulatory care clinical pharmacists and will continue to improve the outcomes of patients they serve at various academic medical centers in Chicago.

PGY2 Cardiology The University of Illinois Chicago College of Pharmacy has provided post-doctoral training specializing in the study and treatment of cardiovascular disease for nearly 30 years. Our ASHP-accredited PGY2 Cardiology Pharmacy Residency continues that tradition. The goal of this residency is to afford the opportunity to develop expert knowledge and skills in cardiovascular pharmacotherapy through clinical service, education, and scholarly activities. Our 2021-2022 PGY2 Cardiology Pharmacy Resident, Dr. Elena Buff, was highly productive over her residency year. She completed rotations in various clinical practice settings, including cardiology clinics, hospital floors, and intensive care units. Additionally, Elena Buff Dr. Buff served as a preceptor-in-training for several PGY1 Pharmacy Residents and fourth year pharmacy students over the course of her year. Lastly, she delivered several formal presentations and assisted with faculty at the college to facilitate recitations in the cardiovascular therapeutics course. Dr. Buff secured a position as a Cardiology Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina.

PGY2 Clinical The jointly sponsored UIC-NorthShore PGY-2 Clinical Pharmacogenomics Residency is a one-year specialty residency to develop expert knowledge and skills in clinical pharmacogenomics by combining clinical service with educational, practice development, and scholarly activities. The UIC-NorthShore program is the nation’s first and only dual-site PGY-2 clinical pharmacogenomics residency program to capitalize on the strengths of two institutions with national reputations in clinical pharmacogenomics practice, implementation, expansion, education, and research. Our program’s patient care mission is to improve health equity and quality by making pharmacogenetic testing and PGx-driven treatment available to the diverse inner-city and suburban patient communities our institutions serve.

PGY2 Critical Care The Department of Pharmacy Practice, UIC College of Pharmacy, offers an ASHP-accredited PGY2 Residency in Critical Care Pharmacy. This 12-month program trains residents in the provision, research, and education aspects of critical care pharmacotherapy. Residents have a faculty appointment at the College, provide emergency response support at the hospital, and train in various intensive care and emergency medicine units. For 2021-2022, we successfully recruited and graduated two PGY2 residents - Anastasia Engeleit and George Urias. Both residents completed required rotations in Medical/Surgical, Neuroscience, and Cardiac ICUs as well as a variety of electives including Emergency Medicine, Toxicology, Heart Transplant,

Pharmacogenomics In 2022, the UIC-NorthShore program received 8 year accreditation through 2022 from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. The 2021-2022 resident, Dr. Samantha Socco, presented two posters at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium. Two journal clubs were presented through the American College of Clinical Pharmacy Pharmacokinetics/Pharmacodynamics/Pharmacogenomics PRN and RPRD Diagnostics and numerous in-services were presented to physicians and pharmacists at UI Health and NorthShore. Additionally, Dr. Socco’s major project was accepted for publication in Pharmacogenomics and her work on numerous other projects contributed to various pharmacogenomics clinical implementation expansion initiatives at UI Health and NorthShore.

Infectious Diseases, and Trauma ICU. Dr. Engeleit’s research examined relative hypoglycemia in the ICU and her seminar topic discussed inotrope controversies in cardiogenic shock. Dr. Urias’ research evaluated angiotensin II usage in kidney transplant recipients and his seminar debated the utility of barbiturates in alcohol withdrawal syndrome. Dr. Engeleit is currently a Thoracic ICU Clinical Specialist at University of Florida Health in Gainesville, and Dr. Urias is an ICU Clinical Specialist at University Health in San Antonio, TX.

PGY2 Drug Information The drug information residency is a 1-year program providing flexibility in training to pursue a career outside traditional hospitalbased drug information practice. Our residency alumnae hold prominent positions in areas such as academia, pharmaceutical industry, medical communications, and managed care. The goal of the residency is to enhance the resident’s clinical skills and expertise in efficient retrieval and critical evaluation of the biomedical literature, communication of evidence-based information, medical writing, formulary management/prior authorization, and didactic and experiential teaching. Honey Joseph, our 2021-2022 PGY2 drug information resident, completed Honey Joseph rotational experiences in Medical Writing, Drug Information Inquiries, Formulary Management, Academia, Medication Safety, Academic Detailing, Medication Use Policy, and Research. Honey worked on multiple writing and formulary management projects throughout her year – she completed a medication use evaluation for UI Health on the use of intravenous immunoglobin, evaluated heparin-induced thrombocytopenia management and critical drug-drug interaction alerts at UI Health, completed standard response letters for pharmaceutical companies, assisted in an FAQ article for the Drug Information Group website, and had an article published in Practical Pain Management, among other projects. Honey gave multiple lectures to students in the College of Pharmacy for core and elective classes, led 2 recitations, one locally at the UIC College of Pharmacy, and one remotely, in conjunction with the University of Malta, and assisted in precepting APPE students on rotation with the Drug Information Group. She presented an ACPE-accredited live seminar on the controversial approval of aducanumab for Alzheimer Disease and an ACCME-accredited online webinar on acute asthma exacerbation management. Additionally, Honey presented her research project and findings, a systematic review on risk prediction models for antineoplastic-associated cardiotoxicity in treatment of breast cancer, at the Drug Information Association Global Annual Meeting in June 2022.

PGY2 Emergency Medicine The Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Residency at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Pharmacy is a 12-month, structured, ASHP-accredited PGY2 residency. The goal of this residency is to develop expert knowledge and skills in the provision of pharmacotherapy to emergency department patients by combining clinical service with educational and scholarly activities.

Our 2021-2022 PGY2 emergency medicine resident, Dr. Drew Posen was highly productive over the residency year. He contributed to the college, health system and pharmacy profession through precepting and teaching activities, countless presentations and publications, and most importantly, through the provision of highquality comprehensive medication management for patients served by UI Health. Dr. Posen secured a position as an Emergency Medicine Clinical Specialist expanding pharmacy coverage at Virginia Commonweath University Medical Center to 24/7 coverage.

PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership

The goal of this residency is to develop the pharmacy leaders of tomorrow. The resident will receive extensive training in all key pharmacy department administrative areas in order to be qualified for a variety of management/leadership positions upon completion of the residency. Rotations include hospital and ambulatory pharmacy operations, pharmacy IT, medication use policy/formulary, medication safety/quality, clinical services management, 340B drug pricing program, specialty pharmacy, telehealth, and academia. As of July 1, 2022, this program was changed to a 2-year combination PGY1/PGY2 in HealthSystem Pharmacy Administration and Leadership.

Dr. Jarvis’ research project was a survey of leadership perceptions among student pharmacists at an urban college of pharmacy. It is in the process of being submitted for publication. Projects completed during her residency include pharmacokinetics workflow optimization, UI Health 340B impact profile, SCB pharmacy activation, and sterile compounding standardization. Dr. Jarvis’ seminar was on exploring outpatient pharmacy-based billing opportunities and she presented a lecture to P3 students on strategic planning which was well received.

PGY2 HEALTH-SYSTEM PHARMACY ADMINISTRATION AND LEADERSHIP DIRECTOR

PGY2 HIV The HIV/ID pharmacy residency program provides training opportunities at several locations including UI Health Outpatient Care Center (OCC), UI Health Community Clinic Network (UCCN), Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) Telemedicine HIV/HCV clinics, John H. Stroger, Jr., Hospital of Cook County, and the Ruth M. Rothstein CORE Center. Additionally, we provide opportunities for teaching, research, quality improvement, and participation in the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program in order to prepare graduates to become effective clinicians and educators in the practice area of HIV and infectious diseases in a clinical and academic setting.

PGY2 Solid Organ Transplant The solid organ transplant PGY2 residency aims to create strong, independent clinical pharmacists by integrating patient care, education, and research into the training experience. Residents will become leaders in management of transplant recipients in all phases of care and play an integral role with transitions of care. The 2021-2022 SOT PGY2 resident, Aoife Iaria, had her research accepted as a podium presentation at American Transplant Congress (ATC) Meeting in June 2022. She also served as the trainee member for ACCP Immunology/Transplantation (IMTR) Practice and Research Network (PRN) and received the 2022 TxPharm COP Best New Practitioner Research Grant. She also had three lectures in the Transplant Elective at UIC College of Pharmacy and completed an ACPE accredited seminar for faculty at the College of Pharmacy and Illinois Transplant Pharmacy Association (ITPA).

Dr. Ou Received Travel Award from ACCP Dr. Sylvia Ou was the recipient of the 2021 American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) Endocrine and Metabolism PRN Resident Travel Award.

Dr. Honey Joseph Presented at DIA Dr. Honey Joseph presented her research project and findings, a systematic review on risk prediction models for antineoplasticassociated cardiotoxicity in treatment of breast cancer, at the Drug Information Association (DIA) Global Annual Meeting in June 2022.

Residents Gave ACPE-Accredited Presentations All of our residents gave Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)-accredited 1-hour CE presentations. Examples of these include the following: Dr. Hali Hanson’s presentation was titled “Inundated with Incretins: Updates on the Role of GLP-1 Agonist and Twincretin Therapies”. Dr. Erin Wasif’s presentation was titled “Mifepristone – Is the REMS in-clinic dispensing helping or hurting?” Dr. Sylvia Ou’s presentation was titeld “Making every breath count: the role of long-acting muscarinic antagonists in moderate-to-severe asthma”. Dr. Karen Juco’s presentation was titled “Take a Breath or Take a Beat? Beta-Blocker Use in Patient with Reactive Airway Disease”. Dr. Rawan Zayed’s presentation was titeld “HIV Antiretroviral Associated Weight Gain”. Dr. Andrew Posen’s presentation was titled “Setting the Hook: Barbs for Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome”. Dr. Elena Buff’s presentation was titled “DOn’t go bREaking MI heart: Clinical Controversies Surrounding the Role of Inotropes in Cardiogenic Shock”.

Ambulatory Care Residents Deliver Lectures Each of our PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residents delivered a 1-hour lecture for the Exploring Advanced Topics in Ambulatory Care elective course. Dr. Hali Hanson’s lecture was titled “Cardiovascular Lifestyle Modifications”, Dr. Erin Wasif’s lecture was titled “Residency Orientation & Board Certification Overview”, and Dr. Sylvia Ou’s lecture was titled “Approach to Challenging Patient Cases”. Dr. Sylvia Ou also developed and facilitated a recitation on “Chronic Disease Management Patient Cases”.

Residents Teach in the PharmD Curriculum Serveral of our Residents gave lectures in different PharmD Courses and APPE sessions to our PharmD students. They are as follows: Dr. Rawan Zayed facilitated 16-hours of patient care skills workshops in PHAR 414: Introduction to Patient Care; as well she delivered a 1-hour lecture for the PMPR 370: Pharmacy Grand Rounds elective course, titled “Specialty Pharmacy”. Dr. Karen Juco “Learning Styles and the VARK Questionnaire” presented to Academic APPE students. As well she gave a lecture in PMPR 327 titled “Dyslipidemia and Metabolic Syndrome”; a lecture in PMPR 359 entitled “Interviewing the Interviewer”; and a lecture in PHAR 501 entitled “Vitamins and Minerals”.

Residents Drive Practice Protocols Dr. Sylvia Ou developed UI Health’s Gout Management Services by Pharmacists in Adult Ambulatory Care Clinics Protocol. Dr. Erin Wasif updated UI Health’s Hypertension Management by Pharmacists in Adult Ambulatory Care Patients Protocol. Dr. Hali Hanson drafted a Managed care service protocol for UI Health.

Dr. Diane Ayuninjam gave a lecture in PMPR 338 titled “HIV Pharmacology’” Morning Conference lecutre, as well she was the PMPR 338 (Management of the HIV Patient) Course Co-coordinator and HIV PrEP/PEP lecturer ‘Introduction to HIV’ and ‘HIV PrEP’ lecture for Cook County medical residents and students.

Dr. Sylvia Ou presented at the Endocrine and Metabolism PRN Business Meeting as part of the 2021 American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) Annual Meeting. Her presentation was titled “Finerenone: The New Mineralocorticoid Receptor Antagonist on the Block”.

Dr. Andrew Posen delivered a lecture for the Critical Care elective course titled “Cardiovascular Lifestyle Modifications”.

Her presentation was given an encore at the Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists (ICHP) Ambulatory Care Network June 2022 meeting.

Dr. Aoife Iaria Lectures in the Solid Organ Transplant Course Dr. Iaria presented three different lectures in the Solid Organ Transplant elective. The three lectures were titled “Introduction to transplant”, “Small bowel transplant”, and “Immunosuppressants in the pipeline - novel treatment strategies, noninvasive monitoring, and drugs in the pipeline”.

Dr. Iaria Researched the Evaluation of Hepatitis C in Kidney Transplant Dr. Aoife Iaria’s research project was titled “Evaluation of Hepatitis C positive donor to hepatitis C negative recipient kidney transplant in a highly sensitized patient population”.

Dr. Posen Updates Guidelines and Pathways Dr. Andrew Posen updated to emergency medicine pediatric asthma and seizure guidelines and led initial development of ED DOAC pathways. He also gave a P&T presentation for fomulary addition of tenecteplase.

Recitations and Research for Cardiology Resident Dr. Elena Buff worked on several Recitations, including Heart failure, Arrhythmias, Acute coronary syndromes, and Stable ischemic cardiovascular disease. As well, her two research projects were titled “Evaluation of mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist use in patients with heart failure and preserved ejection fraction” and “Antihypertensive prescribing patterns in patients with resistant hypertension”.

Residents On Committees Several of our Residents served on American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) Committees during their residency. Dr. Hali Hanson served as a member of the ACCP Ambulatory Care PRN Clinical Service Advancement Committee. Dr. Erin Wasif served as a member of the ACCP Ambulatory Care PRN Resident/ Fellow Committee. Dr. Sylvia Ou Served as a member of the ACCP Endocrine and Metabolism PRN Communications Committee, as well as a member of the ACCP Ambulatory Care PRN Clinical Service Advancement Committee. Dr. Diane Ayuninjam served as a member for the Vizient Research Committee. Dr. Karen Juco served on the UI Team Rx committee, as well as the Pharmacy Safety Committee as the Wood Street Pharmacy representative.

HIV Resident in Research, Community Service and Seminars Dr. Diane Ayuninjam worked hard to implement a new service, the Cabenuva Implementation at UIC ID Clinic, BEYOND Clinical Study Site Personnel, and Transitions of Care. As well, she assisted in precepting Pharmacy, MPH, DNP, and SW students during her time in residency, and gave a seminar entitled “DoxyPEP & DoxyPrEP: Doxycycline prophylaxis for bacterial sexually transmitted infections”. Dr. Ayuninjam also participated in COVID vaccination events through the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) initiative and recieved her AAHIVP Certification from the American Academy of HIV Medicine. Finally, the title of her research project was “Hepatitis C treatment outcomes in people who inject drugs (PWID) versus people with substance use disorder (SUD) who do not inject”.

Residents at Conferences Dr. Drew Posen presented “Evaluating guideline adherence in the early management of hypertensive emergency” as part of the Residency Project Pearls 2021 at the Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists Annual Meeting.

Drs. Alexandra Edinger and Tina Saleh presented posters at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Summer meeting, held in Phoenix Arizona. Dr. Alexandra Edinger’s poster was titled “Evaluation of a Therapeutic Outcome Monitoring Program for Patients withRheumatoid Arthritis.” Dr. Tina Saleh’s poster, presented with faculty member, Dr. Karen Thomas, was titled “Improvement of Oral Anticancer Agent Tolerability ThroughPharmacist Interventions Within a Health System Specialty Pharmacy.”

Dr. Anastasia Engeleit, with COP Faculty member Dr. Renee Petzel Gimbar and COM faculty Trevonne Thompson, presented a poster titled “Influenceof the 2020 Novel Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) on Toxicology Related Presentations” and their findings related to poisonings at UI Health during the pandemic at the North American Congress of Clinical Toxicology.

Resident Awards in Excellence

Dr. Marc McDowell was recognized by the 2022 graduating residency class as Preceptor of the Year. This award is given to outstanding preceptors working with the residents.

Dr. Elizabeth Foster, PGY1 Pharmacy Resident, was recognized by faculty as winner of the 2022 Richard Hutchinson Award for Excellence in Clinical Pharmacy Practice.

Clara Gary was recognized by the 2022 graduating residency class as Staff of the Year. This award is given to outstanding staff working with the residents.
