Why choose ‘Sørlandet’ and UiA?

Known as the “Norwegian Riviera”, Southern Norway is characterized by its rugged coastline, picturesque archipelagos, and charming seaside villages. Although less dramatic than the fjords in Western Norway, ‘Sørlandet’ has its fair share of beautiful fjords and hills, that are perfect for outdoor activities such as hiking, swimming, boating, fishing and kayaking. The region is also known for its mild and sunny weather and both Kristiansand and Grimstad o er a wide range of activities and cultural experiences.

Compared to the rest of Norway, Southern Norway also has a relatively mild climate, with warmer summers and less severe winters, making it a popular destination for both Norwegians and international tourists.

Here, you can also delve into our rich historical heritage, as evident by the well-preserved wooden houses and architecture, medieval churches and historical towns like Mandal and Risør. The region also hosts a number of cultural events and festivals, including the Kristiansand International Children’s Film Festival, the Southern Norway Music Festival and Palmesus — Scandinavia’s largest beach party!

Whether you’re exploring historical sites, taking part in cultural events, or going on an outdoor adventure, studying in Southern Norway will be an enriching experience you’ll never forget.
