The UH RISES AIR Program took place from July 11 August 9 with the mission to equip surgical research trainees with the ability to understand research methodology and basic statistics This year’s participation included not only Allen Scholars and Research Fellows from the Department of Surgery, but also trainees from Orthopedic Surgery, Urology, and Neurosurgery. To further aid in their research, laptops and STATA statistical software were provided to our trainees through generous support from Dr. Sabik. Case Comprehensive Center Retreat – Winter Lab
Congratulations to the Winter Lab on an impressive showing at this year’s Case CCC Annual Scientific Retreat! Three out of the eight total awards presented to trainees in the poster session were won by lab members JJ Hue, MD (PGY3), Omid Hajihassani (CWRU graduate student), and Arian Hajihassani (CWRU undergraduate student). In addition, lab member Ali VaziriGohar, PhD (CWRU post-doctoral scholar), was the only trainee in the entire cancer center invited to present an individual lecture. His presentation, “Wild type IDH1 is required for metabolic rewiring in pancreatic cancer cells under nutrient limitation”, showcased his ongoing exciting research with IDH1 and nutrient availability which was also recently published in Nature Cancer.
