Located at UH Maui College, MFIC is committed to connecting our community’s vibrant valueadded food companies with technical expertise, innovative training, business consultation, and a Research & Development kitchen.

Entrepreneurs like MFIX alumni Desire Prada “Madame Donut,” owner of Donut Dynamite, are pioneering the future of food and agriculture and discovering how to be better business owners in the process. They’re taking favorite foods and giving them a 21st century makeover using local ingredients or innovative techniques thus creating a new niche of products in the marketplace.

“For me it started with a few donuts and one brioche, now I have 20 brioches; I’ve changed the “donut” paradigm! These delicious temptations are inspired by local ingredients such as: poi, lilikoi, calamansi, and Moloka‘i sweet potatoes. My customers excess fruits are now an inspiration for exploring new donut flavors,” said Madame Donut.

Funded by the US SBA Grow Accelerator Program, MFIC launched its first MFIX class in 2016. This fall, owners and employees can enroll in more certificate-based classes to advance their food manufacturing and business expertise.

MFIC welcomes the chance to serve our community of “cottage” size companies grow into medium-size food manufacturers, like Madame Donut, and share more Maui-based products locally, regionally and nationally.
