WORLD CLASS, FUNDED TO LAST
In October 2017, real estate investor and philanthropist Jay H. Shidler, BBA ’68, donated an additional $117 million to his alma mater, increasing his total giving to $238 million. This is the largest individual donation in the history of the University of Hawai‘i and one of the largest to any public business school in the United States.
Shidler’s latest gifts of cash and real estate ground leases ensure the college’s long-term financial health. This allows the college to
extensively increase scholarship support for students over the next 40 years. Shidler’s previous gifts of $25 million in 2006, $69 million in 2014 and several other gifts over the years have transformed the college and set it on a path to become a world-class business school. His gifts have already yielded dramatic and lasting results to the campus facilities, academic programs, scholarships, faculty research and the college’s reputation.
