This database offers access to more than 1,290 grants and schemes for community groups, volunteer organisations, schools, sport clubs and Iwi. You can find assistance for nearly everything, including operational costs, building redevelopment, project based resources, and more. UNSCRIP TED Wondering about unleashing your inner self, tapping into your inner child, having fun and laughter amongst a group of like-minded over 50s? Unscripted is based loosely on Theatre Sports and “Whose Line is it Anyway” and provides an opportunity for anyone aged 50 years or older to come together and enjoy fun, laughter, develop confidence in performance and make friendships. The group gives most things a try – drama, humour, language. Unscripted started in July 2014 and has continued to meet at the Library every Tuesday 1.30 – 3pm. Participants don’t have to commit to coming every week and just pop in when they can. The Unscripted group is very welcoming and inclusive so come and have a look, join in or not – it's up to you! Afterwards you can join the group for a coffee at Limelight. S E L F - S E R V I C E K I O S K F O R S I G H T- I M PA I R E D P E O P L E Accessibility to our services is very important to us, which is why we have turned off the lights of one of our self-service kiosks. Feedback from sight-impaired customers showed that the blue light around the screen made it harder for them to read. So don’t worry – the lights are off on purpose! There is also the option to increase the font on all our kiosks, and by changing the colours of the return shelves next to the kiosks and the corresponding pictures on the screens, we've made sure that colour blind people can tell them apart. TOWN BOARD

Find out more about the history of our community by visiting us now at uhcl.recollect.co.nz 109 years ago this month local government in Upper Hutt began with the establishment of the Upper Hutt Town Board. The district had previously been managed as part of Hutt County. But from April 1908, administrative responsibility was transferred to a locally elected board of ‘commissioners’. As the photograph above indicates, the beginnings of self-governance here were rather modest. By 1911, though, the Town Board offices had moved from this rudimentary shed to grander premises in a newly built chambers on the corner of Russell and Main Streets. By 1926 Upper Hutt had grown sufficiently for the Town Board to be replaced by a Borough Council. Forty years later local government here was in turn upgraded to City Council status. CENTRAL LIBRARY
