D ATA B A S E H I G H L I G H T Upper Hut t Newspaper Archive Want to learn more about Upper Hutt’s past? Would you like to see what sorts of things were deemed newsworthy in the early days? Or do you want to find articles about a particular event? For instance, an article on the formation of the Lions Club in Upper Hutt can be found in the Leader, Volume XVIII, Number 16, 4 May 1961. Whether you want to look up something specific or are just interested in browsing older issues, the Upper Hutt Newspaper Archive is the place for you. It provides access to retrospective issues of Upper Hutt’s longest running local newspaper the Leader. Our current digital collection covers the earliest years of the paper 1939-1964 with bound copies of all the years after that available in our Reference Stack. C E N T R A L L I B R A R Y L AYO U T C H A N G E S To make it easier for you to browse for material, seek specific items or look for your favourite author or topic, we are planning to change the layout and collection arrangements in our Central Library. The need to purchase new shelving for the fiction collection offers us an opportunity to swap the Children’s area and the Rotary Lounge, which will allow greater flexibility within both spaces, as well as increasing visibility, safety and interconnectedness.

We will also gain a more suitable space for programmes and events by using the current learning centre space that can be made into a separate room. Customers will have an opportunity to view more detailed plans on information boards in the library before the move and will be given the chance to provide feedback. The change is planned for late November 2016.

TRIAL CHANGE OF LIBRARY OPENING HOURS Upper Hutt City Library is seeking to improve customer service and Library access by changing the opening hours at Central and Pinehaven Libraries and welcomes your feedback. The 10-week trial period began on Monday 15 August. The trial opening hours are: Central Library
