COVER An illustration from the Summer Reading Challenge: Readers of the Lost Ark by Library staff member Simon
It will come as no surprise to hear that Upper Hutt City Library staff are big users of the Library’s collections. Books, DVDs, audiobooks and CDs, nearly all of them eventually find their way into the hands of our Librarians! We are excited to share with you the books and other items that we have enjoyed the most. Keep an eye out for the brand new Librarians' Choice sticker which will be appearing in the Library in the very near future.

NE W: Sound Discs
Those of you with eagle eyes may have recently noticed mysterious clusters of unidentified, round, floating, and very colourful objects above you in the Rotary Lounge and Children and Teens area. As much as I want to believe that even extra-terrestrials enjoy coming to Upper Hutt to experience our comfy new furniture and browse our excellent selection of books, magazines and media, in this case the objects are actually our new sound absorbing discs! Made of non-flammable sound-absorbing material, these discs filter noise and will help contain some of the ruckus from programmes and children, as well as adding a welcome splash of colour. T H A N K YO U!
We would like to acknowledge the great work all our volunteers do to support us every week. Thank you to our computer mentors, programme facilitators, heritage volunteers, shelvers, book mending and processing volunteers. Your help is invaluable and it allows us to offer a better service to the Upper Hutt community. Huge thanks from the Upper Hutt City Library! Did you know that your librarians have a lot of fun on social media? Film or celebrity tributes, like our Walking Dead (Walking Read) image above, are a great way to get the team together, be creative, and help smash assumptions about libraries as boring places full of cardigans and old dusty books (though we do love cardigans and old books!). The following pictures have all been posted on our Instagram account, celebrating 'Bookface Friday'. You can follow us on: www.instagram.com/uhlibrary Not sure about social media or want help setting up an account? Talk to a librarian or a computer mentor, who are ready to help and answer your queries!
