After Ron Irvine had to travel for a procedure, he was inspired to ensure that no other patients like him would have to do the same. Kingston is now home to southeastern Ontario’s only balloon enteroscope—a specialized piece of equipment which wasn’t available close to home when Ron needed it. “I was obviously having hemorrhaging of some sort intestinally,” said Ron. Existing diagnostic technology in Kingston simply could not reach the troubled area. So Ron was sent to Toronto
where he could access a test using the balloon enteroscope. “I was fortunate to have my son drive me up and friends that I could stay with, but what about the people who can’t do that?” he asked. “That is the real reason I made the donation—so others can avoid this nuisance.” Determined to make a difference, Ron approached Continued on pg. 5...
