Learning Objectives
In this book, the students will

Letter recognition expands to additional consonants and vowel /o/.

Demonstrate basic knowledge of letter–sound correspondence. Students associate: m → /m/ o → /ŏ/ d → /d/ c → /k/ k → /k/ g → /g/
1. Look and learn. Repeat the sound . m
2. Say the word for each picture, then circle the letter m.

3. Listen. Rub your belly and say /mmmm/ when you hear a food you like from the list below.
Trace and write.
5. Read the words out loud, then match them with the pictures. man pan mat

6. Play with a partner. Take turns to move one box forward. Make a humming sound if the picture begins with the /m/ sound, and a hissing sound if it begins with the /s/ sound.

If your turn falls on an empty box, you may say any word beginning with either /m/ or /s/.
7. Draw something that begins with the /m/ sound. Then tell your classmate about it.
Use playdough or a shoelace to make the letter m.

1. Look and learn. Repeat the sound
2. Say the word for each picture, then circle the letter o.
3. Find and circle the letter O. Say /ooooo/ as you circle each one.
Trace and write.
5. Listen. Write o under the pictures that have the /o/ sound in them.
With your mother’s help, bake a cake or a loaf of bread in the shape of the letter o.
6. Color the pictures that have the /o/ sound in them.
7. Draw something that has the /o/ sound in it. Then tell your classmate about it.
Make a doughnut craft, then work with your classmates to set up a doughnut shop in the classroom.

2. Say the word for each picture, then circle the letter d.
