I’m building me a home. This earthly house is gonna soon decay, An’ my soul gotta have somewhere to stay.
When you hear me moanin’, I’m building me a home. When you hear me prayin’, I’m building me a home. When you hear me shoutin’, I’m building me a home.

I. Song of a Dream II. In the Forest III. Transience
Song of a Dream
Once in the dream of a night I stood Lone in the light of a magical wood, Soul-deep in visions that poppy-like sprang; And spirits of Truth were the birds that sang, And spirits of Love were the stars that glowed, And spirits of Peace were the streams that flowed In that magical wood in the land of sleep.
Lone in the light of that magical grove, I felt the stars of the spirits of Love
Gather and gleam round my delicate youth, And I heard the song of the spirits of Truth; To quench my longing I bent me low By the streams of the spirits of Peace that flow In that magical wood in the land of sleep.
In the Forest
Here, O my heart, let us burn the dear dreams that are dead, Here in this wood let us fashion a funeral pyre Of fallen white petals and leaves that are mellow and red,
Here let us burn them in noon’s flaming torches of fire. We are weary, my heart, we are weary, so long have we borne The heavy loved burden of dreams that are dead, let us rest, Let us scatter their ashes away, for a while let us mourn; We will rest, O my heart, till the shadows are gray in the west.
But soon we must rise, O my heart, we must wander again Into the war of the world and the strife of the throng; Let us rise, O my heart, let us gather the dreams that remain, We will conquer the sorrow of life with the sorrow of song.
Transience
Nay, do not grieve tho’ life be full of sadness, Dawn will not veil her splendor for your grief, Nor spring deny their bright, appointed beauty To lotus blossom and Ashoka leaf.
Nay, do not pine, tho’ life be dark with trouble, Time will not pause or tarry on his way; To-day that seems so long, so strange, so bitter, Will soon be some forgotten yesterday.
Nay, do not weep; new hopes, new dreams, new faces, The unspent joy of all the unborn years, Will prove your heart a traitor to its sorrow, And make your eyes unfaithful to their tears.
Wana Baraka
Arr. Shawn Kirchner | Text: Kenyan Folk Song
Swahili
Wana baraka wale waombao
Yesu mwenyewe alisema. Alleluya!
Wana amani
Wana furaha
Wana uzima
English
They have blessings, those who pray; Jesus himself said so. Alleluia! They have peace They have joy They have well-being.
Kestutis Daugirdas (b. 1985) | From Psalms 67, 68, 69.
Clap (your hands), sing praises, make a joyful sound to God, all the earth—hallelujah.
Let all nations bless the Lord, joining in his praises—hallelujah, for the Lord has had mercy on us—hallelujah, and he has led captivity captive, estimable and venerable for (all) ages—hallelujah.
Joel Thompson (b. 1988) | Text: Langston Hughes from Harlem and Dreams
Free at last?
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun
Or fester like a sore and run?
Does it stink like rotten meat
Or crust and sugar over like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags like a heavy load
Or does it explode?
Hold fast to dreams for when dreams die
Life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams for when dreams go Life is a barren field frozen with snow.
Anton Bruckner (1824-1896) | Psalm 37:30-31
The mouth of righteous utters wisdom and his tongue speaks what is just. The law of his God is in his heart and his feet do not falter. Alleluia.
Hela Rotan (Indonesian Folk Song)
Arr. Ken Steven (b. 1993) | Traditional Maluccas (Indonesia)
Hela Rotan is a game of tug-of-war. The rope is traditionally made out of “rotan” (ROW-tahn), the vining palm from which woven furniture and other goods are made. In many Asian cultures, this game would draw two communities together for a celebration centered on a peaceable but spirited competition.
Pull, let us pull the cane
Accompanied by the sound of the Javanese drums
The cane is cut already
And both ends and meet now
Mango, mango is young and sweet
Mango, mango comes from Nila (name of a city)
A girl with a sweet sweet face
Makes me crazy
I have never loved someone
Shara Nova, arr. Nate Thatcher (b. 1974) | Text: Shara Nova
I have never loved someone the way I love you I have never seen a smile like yours
And if you grow up to be king or clown or pauper
I will say you are my favorite one in town
I have never held a hand so soft and sacred
When I hear you laugh I know heaven’s key
And when I grow to be a poppy in a graveyard, I will send you all my love upon the breeze
And if the breeze won’t blow your way, I will be the sun
And if the sun won’t shine your way, I will be the rain
And if the rain won’t wash away all your aches and pains
I will find some other way to tell you
You’re ok.
You’re ok.
And if the breeze won’t blow your way, I will be the sun
And if the sun won’t shine your way, I will be the rain
And if the rain won’t wash away all your aches and pains
I will find some other way to tell you
You’re ok.
You’re ok.
Arr. Michael Engelhardt (living) | Georgia Sea Island Spiritual
Yonder come day. Day’s a-breakin’
Yonder come day, oh my soul.
Yonder come day, Day’s a-breakin’
Sun is risin’ in my soul.
